7 last time vs. tennessee - feb. 16, thompson-boiling arena Game 24 - tennessee 73 - south carolina 67 knoxville, tenn. - feb. 16, 2011 KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - (AP) Scotty Hopson scored 23 points as Tennessee survived sloppy play to beat South Carolina on Wednesday night. The victory ended a three-game losing skid for Tennessee (16-10, 6-5 Southeastern Conference) and extended the Volunteers winning streak over the Gamecocks to eight straight. Kenny Hall tipped in a missed layup by Melvin Goins to give the Vols a lead with 3:05 left. Hall then fouled Malik Cooke at the other end as he hit a layup. Cooke hit the ensuing free throw and followed up a Tennessee turnover with a 3-pointer as part of an 8-0 run that left the Vols with a lead with a minute remaining. Tennessee didn t hit a field goal in the final 3:05 of the game but went 7 of 8 from the free- throw line in the last minute to seal the victory. The Vols, who entered the game ranked last in the SEC with their 14.8 attempted foul shots per game in league play, finished 21 of 35 from the charity stripe. Cameron Tatum added 15 points for Tennessee, while Tobias Harris and Brian Williams each had 10. Cooke scored a career-high 22 points for the Gamecocks (13-11, 4-7), who lost their fourth straight. Bruce Ellington added 15 points, and Ramon Galloway scored 10. South Carolina s last lead came midway through the first half, but even shooting 32.9 percent the Gamecocks never let Tennessee get too comfortable on its own floor. The Vols hit 44.2 percent of their shotss but committed 16 turnovers, leading to 20 points for South Carolina. Tobias Harris scored Tennessee s first six points of the game, all in the paint. The Gamecocks started pressing, leading to confusion, giveaways and a nearly seven-minute drought without a field goal for the Vols. Tennessee was leading 14-7 when a 3-pointer by RJ Slawson launched an 8-0 run by South Carolina. Galloway banked a shot with 8:03 left in the first half to take a lead for the Gamecocks, but it was the last time they would lead. Galloway fouled Hopson on the next possession, and Hopson hit both free throws. Galloway missed a jumper on the other end of the floor, and Hopson dunked, helping the Vols to settle down - at least until halftime. Tennessee, which leads the SEC in offensive rebounds, had a advantage on the boards at the break but only eight second-chance points. The Vols built a 12-point lead quickly, but it didn t last as the Gamecocks started scoring more in the paint. A layup by Galloway cut the margin to with 12:41 left. South Carolina wouldn t get any closer as a 3-pointer by Skylar McBee from the wing with 11:57 left gave Tennessee some life. SOUTH CAROLINA VS. 14 Game 1 - South Carolina 94 - Elon 79 columbia, s.c. - Nov. 12, 2010 COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -Sam Muldrow scored 20 points and Lakeem Jackson added 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead South Carolina to a win over Elon on Friday night in the season opener for both teams. The Gamecocks shot better on 3-pointers (56 percent) than from the field (53 percent) and ended up with six players in double figures. Jack Isenbarger led Elon with 22 points, while Drew Spradlin added 12 points and nine rebounds. Mailk Cooke scored 13 points for South Carolina, and Ramon Galloway added 11 points, making all three of his 3-pointers as he show few problems from a foot fracture that kept him out of most of preseason practice. South Carolina Head Coach Darrin Horn Post Game Quote vs. Elon I think the story of this game is what we hope is going to be the story of our team and our entire program moving forward as we continue to build- it was the strength of our team tonight. We had over 10 guys in double figures (minutes). We had nobody over 30 minutes. We had six guys in double figures on points. We had 23 assists, which is terrific. We also took care of the ball pretty good, too. We saw some different guys do things that we didn t see early. We had guys like Bruce (Ellington) who had 23 points the first (exhibition) game and tonight didn t score well. But I thought he controlled the game and was unbelievable at getting shots for others. He was terrific defensively. Those are all positive things that we can take and build on. Obviously we have a lot of work to do. Our conversion defense was bad. We gave them too many open looks, especially for a team that shot the three as well as they do. I think those are the kinds of things that we can fix moving forward. It was a team effort tonight. We saw a lot of guys contributing. Game 2 - no. 2/2 michigan state 82 - south carolina 73 east lansing, Mich. - Nov. 16, 2010 EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Durrell Summers had 22 points, Draymond Green scored 18 and Delvon Roe added 15, helping No. 2 Michigan State hold off South Carolina for an win Tuesday night. The Spartans (2-0) led at halftime, but had the lead cut to single digits early in the second half and couldn t pull away because they made too many turnovers and gave up a lot of 3-pointers. Freshman Bruce Ellington made a shot from beyond the arc that pulled the Game- cocks (1-1) within six points with 2:13 left to play, but they couldn t get closer. Ellington finished with 22 points and teammate Sam Muldrow was held to five points and was stunted defensively because of foul trouble. Michigan State made 19 turnovers and gave up 11 3-pointers. The 10 p.m. EST tipoff allowed Roe, a theatre major, to have a unique night. He played Charles the wrestler in Shakespeare s As You Like It on campus in a performance that started about 2 1/2 hours before the game did. Then, he put on a show in the opening minutes. Roe had a block, an offensive rebound and a backdoor pass early in the game. He had 10 points, three rebounds, three assists and a block by halftime, playing one of his best halves in three seasons with the Spartans. He finished well, too, coming up one point short of his career high and setting a personal best with six assists. Mic chigan State had a scare midway through the second half when star guard Kalin Luca as, coming off surgery on his left Achilles tendon, gingerly walked off the court after flexing his left foot and ankle. Lucas didn t stay on the bench long, drawing cheers when he checked back in the game. He had five points - 13 fewer than he scored in the opener - and had seven assists without a turnover. South Carolina didn t have a double-digit scorer for almost 30 minutes, but finished with three. Brian Richardson scored 11 points and Stephen Spinella finished with 10. 15 Game 3 - South Carolina 85 - Radford 56 columbia, s.c. - Nov. 19, 2010 COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina shook a chilly first 10 minutes to thrash Radford on Friday night. Sophomore guard Stephen Spinella continued his rapid improvement with his second career high in two games, scoring 15 points to lead the team. Fresh- man Brian Richardson had 11, while Lakeem Jackson and Bruce Ellington each scored 10. The Gamecocks got at least four points from every player on the roster and out-rebounded Radford Blake Smith had 14 points for the Highlanders (2-1) and three others each scored nine. The Gamecocks (2-1) took a 30-point lead at halftime as every player on the team but one scored at least two points. The Gamecocks hit 11 three-pointers, including three each from Richardson and Spinella. South Carolina Head Coach Darrin Horn Post Game Quote vs. Radford On getting effort out of the team... You have to recruit it. We recruit guys that play hard and compete when they play. We play hard in everything that we do. Another thing that s helping us is our depth. Guys will play harder when they re trying to get in the game. The number one motivator is if you are getting in the game or not. Game 4 - South Carolina 57 - usc upstate 41 columbia, s.c. - Nov. 23, 2010 COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Ramon Galloway scored 12 points and Lakeem Jackson added 11 to lead South Carolina to a victory over South Caro- lina-upstate on Tuesday night. Both teams struggled from the field and the Gamecocks (3-1) did not take command until a 14-0 run during the middle of the second half. Galloway and Jackson combined to score the first 10 points of the run while the Spartans suffered through a 7:22 stretch without a basket. Galloway s 3-pointer began the run and Jackson followed with a three-point play. Galloway then scored on a fast break before Jackson scored off of an offensive rebound to make it with 11:40 remaining. That s as close as it would be the rest of the way. Babatund Olumuyiwa led USC Upstate (0-6) with 11 points, seven rebounds and nine blocks. South Carolina Head Coach Darrin Horn Post Game Quote vs. Upstate On wanting the team to work through offensive problems... That was part of it. The other part was I wasn t overly concerned about our offense tonight. For this team to be its best, we have to be committed to de- fending and rebounding no matter what happens. The fact that we did that for 40 minutes tonight was a step for our team without a question. We weren t very good offensively, but we haven t spent as much time on that as we have the other, so it s going to be a little bit behind. I don t know that it s necessarily because we re playing inexperienced guys. That s probably part of it, but a bigger part is we just haven t spent the time on it that we have the other. 16 Game 5 - South Carolina 87 - WKU 85 (2OT) Bowling Green, ky. - Nov. 27, 2010 BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) -Ramon Galloway came off the bench and had seven of his 22 points in the second overtime to give South Carolina an double-overtime victory over Western Kentucky on Saturday night. The Gamecocks (4-1) were down by as many as 12 points in the first half but came back in the second. A 3-pointer by Bruce Ellington with 20.7 seconds left in regulation tied the game at 67 and forced the first overtime. In the second overtime, Sam Muldrow hauled down a rebound and made a mid drange jumper with 5 seconds left for South Carolina to tie the game at 75 and force another overtime. After WKU (3-3) scored the first three points in the second overtime, Galloway made two layups in transition to give the Gamecocks the lead for good. The Hilltoppers had the ball with 4.4 seconds left but were not able to get a shot off to force a third overtime. South Carolina Head Coach Darrin Horn Post Game Quote vs. WKU On the play of guards Bruce Ellington and Ramon Galloway... I think the way we won is huge because we have a young team and both of those guys are at South Carolina because of what you saw tonight. Not only can they play, but they have tremendous heart, great toughness and pride and that is what we want to build our program around. Nobody at our level recruited Ramon Galloway and he has been terrific and most people think this guy is better is another sport and I don t agree with that. They are guys that if you give them a challenge, they are going to rise to it. I wasn t surprised by it, but glad to see it. Game 6 - south carolina 74 - delaware state 61 columbia, s.c. - dec. 1, 2010 COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Lakeem Jackson, Brian Richardson and Malik Cooke scored 12 points each to lead South Carolina in a victory over Delaware State on Wednesday night. The Gamecocks (5-1) won their fourth straight game and finished with four players in double figures. Johndre Jefferson added a season-high 11 points. South Carolina trailed at the half, but opened the second by scoring the first seven points and never trailed again. The Hornets (2-3) trimmed the deficit to but could not regain the lead thanks to the strong play of Jefferson. Jefferson was scoreless in the first half, but chipped in 10 points during a 15-4 run that gave the Gamecocks a lead late in the second half. Delaware State s Marques Oliver scored a season-high 21 points, but he fouled out with 8:43 remaining. South Carolina Head Coach Darrin Horn Post Game Quote vs. Del State. On the adjustments made at halftime... Mainly just individually challenging guys of not doing what we re capable of. As a team we weren t. Malik Cooke came into the game leading the SEC in of- fensive rebounds, and he had zero in the first half. We felt like their point guard was controlling the game and our point guards were not. Sam Muldrow needed to finish around the basket. When we don t do what we can do individually, it s hard for our team to be good. The thing about this team is we do have a lot to learn, but we have a tremendous amount of pride in that locker room. 17 Game 7 - South Carolina 64 - Clemson 60 columbia, s.c. - dec. 5, 2010 COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Bruce Ellington scored 14 points, including a critical 3-pointer in the final minute as South Carolina broke a six-game losing streak to rival Clemson, 64-60, on Sunday. The Gamecocks (6-1) led when Ellington, a freshman, dribbled away much of the 35 second clock before striking for a 3 from the left side of the arc. Clemson (5-3) got within on Andre Young s two foul shots with 16 seconds to go. But Sam Muldrow followed with a pair of free throws of his own to ice things for South Carolina. Muldrow finished with 13 points and five blocks in the series closest game since the Tigers began their streak in 2004 with a win. Ellington, a freshman, is cousins with Clemson s leading rusher, tailback Andre Ellington. Both wear No. 23. Young had 15 points to lead Clemson. It hasn t been the best year for the Tigers in this rivalry, which usually defines the sporting landscape of South Carolina. Clemson s baseball team was knocked out of the College World Series by the eventual national champion Gamecocks. Then last week, the Tigers were manhandled on the football field, 29-7, by South Carolina s SEC Eastern Division champs. Andre Ellington was coming off a foot injury and was in for just a couple of plays in the Tigers loss that night. So Clemson hoped to end 2010 with their seventh consecutive basketball victory over the Gamecocks. That streak of success was achieved under the leadership of former coach Oliver Purnell. But with Purnell gone to DePaul, South Carolina fans thought it was the perfect time for the Gamecocks to start a streak of their own. And South Carolina started quickly. Ellington had five points and Malik Cooke two baskets as the Gamecocks opened a 13-4 lead. South Carolina s margin was still when Clemson took off on a 10-0 run to take the lead. It wouldn t last, however, as the Gamecocks pressed their advantage under the boards. Johndre Jefferson, a 6-foot-9 forward, had an inside basket and Sam Muldrow, also 6-9, fol- lowed with a go-ahead dunk. Brian Richardson made a pair of 3s and South Carolina stretched things to Young, however, collected a loose ball and made a basket as time ran out that left Clemson down at the break. The Gamecocks appeared to take control midway through the second half when Cooke s inside shot put them ahead The Tigers, though, tied things over the next four minutes as Stitt and Young had 3s. South Carolina wasn t going to let this one slip away. Muldrow had four consecutive points and Ellington a basket before the freshman s clinching 3-pointer. Ellington was 3-of-3 from behind the arc. Game 8 - South Carolina 64 - wofford 53 columbia, s.c. - dec. 11, 2010 COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Bruce Ellington scored 18 points and Sam Muldrow added 14 as South Carolina held off a furious second-half charge to defeat Wofford on Saturday night. The Terriers pulled within four points late in the second half before Muldrow and Ellington took control for the Gamecocks (7-1). Wofford s Jamar Diggs was called for his second technical foul after a hard foul on Ellington, and South Carolina converted three of the four free throws to take a lead with 5:08 remaining. Muldrow added a 3-pointer on the Gamecocks next possession and followed that with a tip-in to give South Carolina a advantage. Ellington s 3 with just over a minute remaining pushed the lead back to double digits to seal it. Cameron Rundles led Wofford (4-6) with 20 points. Muldrow added a season- high 14 rebounds and three blocks. South Carolina Head Coach Darrin Horn Post Game Quote vs. Wofford On Sam Muldrow s play... I ca an t say enough about Sam Muldrow tonight. I thought individually he was prob bably the difference. He was playing like a senior that doesn t want to lose at home should play. He got every big rebound when it counted; hit the big shot down the stretch. He was really outstanding tonight. 18 Game 9 - No. 2/2 Ohio State 79 - South Carolina 57 columbus, ohio. - dec. 18, 2010 COLUMBUS, Ohio. (AP) - Freshman Jared Sullinger had 30 points, a career- high 19 rebounds and showed his range by hitting a 30-foot bank shot at the first-half buzzer to lead Ohio State past South Carolina on Saturday. Sam Muldrow scored 14 points and Malik Cooke 13 for South Carolina (7-2), whose only losses this season have come against second-ranked Big Ten teams. The Gamecocks lost at then-no. 2 Michigan State on Nov. 16. Plain and simple, it was a good old-fashioned whipping from a veteran team that just makes all the little plays and does all the right things, Horn said. We looked like a team that has very little experience. Battling an awful shooting game, the Gamecocks trailed after Sullinger threw in a 30-foot shot at the halftime buzzer. They never got closer than 15 points after that and shot 38 percent for the game. South Carolina Head Coach Darrin Horn Post Game Quote vs. Ohio State On Ohio State Th hey re a terrific team. They re ranked and are where they are for a reason. I think this game s going to be a great learning experience for us as we move forward. Game 10 - furman 91 - South Carolina 75 greenville, s.c. - dec. 22, 2010 GREENVILLE, S.C. - Bruce Ellington scored a career-high 31 points, but it wasn t enough as South Carolina (7-3) dropped a decision to Furman (8-2) Wednesday night at Timmons Arena in Greenville. Heading into Wednesday night s game, South Carolina had won 12 consecu- tive games against the Paladins dating back to an loss in Greenvillee on Feb. 20, The loss continues the road woes for South Carolina this season, which moves to 1-3 away from Colonial Life Arena this year. Five Paladins scored in double-digits, led by Amu Saaka s 20 points. Furman won the rebounding battle with a margin. South Carolina trailed at the half, mainly thanks to Furman senior Justin Dehm s 15-point and 5-for-5 effort from beyond the arc. Ellington was Caro- lina s leading scorer at the break with 11 points and four rebounds. Finding themselves down with 16:20 remaining in the second half, Ra- mon Galloway and Brian Richardson combined to score South Carolina s next 16 points while the team limited Furman to only free throws the cut the Paladin lead down to three points at over a five-minute span. The Paladins pushed the lead back to double-digits with free throws and turn- overs, and the Gamecocks were not able to recover. South Carolina closed to within five points, 70-65, with 6:58 remaining in the game, but the Paladins extended the lead to take the victory. 19 Game 11 - South Carolina 56 - Jacksonville state 49 columbia, s.c. - dec. 29, 2010 COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Ramon Galloway scored 15 points and South Carolina ended a two-game losing streak with a victory over Jacksonville State on Wednesday night. South Carolina (8-3) closed the first half on a 12-2 run after Jacksonville State (2-12) used an 11-1 run to tie the game at 22 with just more than 4 minutes remaining. Galloway hit two 3-pointers during the final run and made 4 of 7 3-pointers in the first half to finish with 12 points. South Carolina opened the second half on a 17-5 run to push the lead to 18 points, the largest of the game. Jacksonville State pulled within seven with 2:32 remaining, but got no closer and lost its eighth straight. Jacksonville State played without leading scorer and rebounder Nick Murphy, who was stranded in New York after a snow storm blanketed the Northeast this week. Stephen Hall scored 13 points to lead Jacksonville State. South Carolina leading scorer Bruce Ellington was held to seven points, but his 3 with just less than 2 minutes remaining pushed the lead to 10. Game 12 - Boston college 85 - South Carolina 70 columbia, s.c. - jan. 1, 2011 COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina (8-4) suffered an loss to Boston College (11-3) on New Year s Day in non-conference action at Colonial Life Arena. Bruce Ellington led four Gamecocks in double figures with 21 points, while Lakeem Jackson added 12, Ramon Galloway 15 and Malik Cooke 13. Cooke led the squad with seven rebounds. Boston College out-rebounded the Gamecocks in the contest. Joe Trapani netted 23 points and nine rebounds for the Eagles, while Reggie Jackson added 14, Biko Paris tallied 18 and Corey Raji collected a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. South Carolina Head Coach Darrin Horn Post Game Quote vs. BC On rebounding and defending... I think the biggest thing is them (South Carolina s players) understanding that our team needs to be about defending and rebounding, the other stuff we can work through. I think offensively that happened tonight. I thought tonight was the best the guys played within themselves and within their roles...it s everybody s role to defend and rebound and I don t think that happened as well tonight. Jacksonville State trimmed the lead to seven twice more in the final minute but could get no closer. 20 Game 13 - South Carolina 91 - SC State 56 columbia, s.c. - jan. 4, 2011 COLUMBIA. S.C. (AP) - Brian Richardson and Lakeem Jackson scored 17 points each as South Carolina rebounded from its first home loss of the sea- son with a victory over South Carolina State on Tuesday night. The Gamecocks (9-4) used a 24-3 run to blitz the Bulldogs (4-9) of the MEAC at the end of the first half and took a lead into the break. South Carolina, in its final nonconference game, then opened the second half on a spurt in the first five minutes to record their largest margin of victory of the season. Sam Muldrow chipped in with 15 points, 10 rebounds and a season-high six blocks for the Gamecocks and Bruce Ellington added 13 points. South Carolina, bouncing back from a New Year s Day loss to Boston College, finished with 15 blocked shots, one off the school record. Darnell Porter led the Bulldogs with 16 points. South Carolina Head Coach Darrin Horn Post Game Quote vs. SC State On setting a rotation... I think we re getting much closer to that... We had eight main guys tonight. I think we re going to end up getting comfortable with eight or nine guys and go from ther re. I think it s easier on us as coaches and on the players as well when they understand that. Game 14 - South Carolina 83 - vanderbilt 75 columbia, s.c. - jan. 8, 2011 COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina was up eight and as the final seconds ticked away, Vanderbilt went up for what appeared to be a meaningless layup. But the Gamecocks Sam Muldrow leaped up, got his fingertips on the ball, and endedd up in his school s record books, getting just the second triple-double in South Carolina s history in an win over the No. 22 Commodores on Saturday. Muldr row owned overtime, getting five points, including a crucial 3, and four blocks in the extra period. Triple-double the hard way, in blocks. It s just unbelievable--great game, Gamecocks coach Darrin Horn said. Keep in mind he did that picking up his fourth foul, I think, with 4:53 on the clock. Freshman Bruce Ellington, in his first league game, got the Gamecocks (10-4, 1-0) to over- time. He scored 12 of the Gamecocks final 15 points in regulation-- burying four 3-pointers in seven minutes, including the final points of the second half that tied it at 72 with 2:09 to go. He then gave South Carolina its first lead of the game with a layup on the first possession of overtime and his quick pass to Muldrow for an open 3 put South Carolina up with 2:18 to go. Ellington finished with 22 points and has scored at least 20 in five of the first 14 games of his college career. I just wanted to go out there and play hard and just compete and win. I was very excited. My teammates got me into the game, I was nervous at first but they just told me to stay focused, Ellington said. The Gamecocks never led in regulation, but used a 20-9 run to come back after trailing after Jenkins 3-pointer with 8:42 left. Once we got it chipped away and got it down, with young guys, we saw the light at the end of the tunnel, Horn said. Lakeem em Jackson added 15 points and Malik Cooke had eight points and 13 rebounds for South Carolina. John Jenkins led Vanderbilt (11-3, 0-1) with 27 points after missing the last game with a concussion. Jeffery Taylor added 14 points and Lance Goulbourne had nine points and 14 rebounds for the Commodores. Vanderbilt jumped to an 11-point lead in the first 14 minutes of the game. But the Commodores could never put the Gamecocks away. Even when we were ahead, I didn t like our look. I didn t like our demeanor, Stallings said. They played with more energy than we did. They deserved to win the game. Official Basketball Box Score -- Game Totals -- Final Statistics SC State vs South Carolina 1/4/11 7 p.m. at Columbia, S.C. 21 Game 15 - Alabama 57 - South Carolina 47 tuscaloos, ala. - jan. 12, 2011 TUSACALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - JaMychal Green scored 20 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked three shots to lead Alabama to a victory over South Carolina on Wednesday night. Tony Mitchell had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Crimson Tide (10-6, 2-0 Southeastern Conference), who opened up 2-0 in conference play for the first time since Green and Mitchell scored 17 of Alabama s first 20 points and combined for 19 of Alabama s first half points. The closest South Carolina got in the second half was 33-30, but Alabama outscored the Gamecocks 11-3 to push the advantage to its largest lead of the game - on a free throw by Green with 7:47 left. Malik Cooke finished with 11 points for South Carolina (10-5, 1-1), while Ramon Galloway and Bruce Ellington had 10 points each. Lakeem Jackson grabbed 11 rebounds. Game 16 - south carolina 72 - florida 69 gainesville, fla. - jan. 15, 2011 GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Bruce Ellington scored 23 points, including the final six for South Carolina, and the Gamecocks beat Florida on Saturday. Ellington got pretty much any shot he wanted against Florida s smaller guards. His biggest ones came late, when he made a driving layup and four free throws to close it out in the final seconds. Ellington was 8 of 15 shooting, including 3 of 7 from 3-point range, and chipped in four rebounds and three assists. Brian Richardson, Lakeem Jackson and Sam Muldrow added 10 points apiece for the Gamecocks (11-5, 2-1 Southeastern Conference), who won for just the fifth time in the last 21 games in the series. Muldrow hit a huge 3-pointer with 53 seconds remaining that put South Caro- lina ahead 66-62, and Ellington took over from there. Erving Walker led the Gators (13-4, 2-1) with 17 points. Patric Young and Ver- non Macklin added 12 apiece for Florida, which came up short after rallying from a 10-point deficit in the second half. South Carolina dominated the first half, shooting 48 percent from the field, blocking six shots and shutting down Florida s backcourt duo of Walker and Kenny Boynton. Making matters worse for the Gators, Chandler Parsons (1 for 3), Alex Tyus (1 for 6) and Vernon Macklin (2 for 7) couldn t get anything going inside. Florida trailed at the break, but played considerably better in the second half. Parsons and Boynton hit consecutive 3s to trim South Carolina s lead to 59-55, then Walker sank a hope-it-goes shot while falling down on a fast break. Walker was fouled on the play and missed the free throw, but Tyus got the rebound and put it back up to tie the game at 59. That 10-0 run had the O Connell Center rocking, but Ellington sank a jumper on the other end to stop the momentum. Jackson followed with a spinning drive against Parsons, putting the Gamecocks up Official Basketball Box Score -- Game Totals -- Final Statistics South Carolina vs Alabama 01/12/11 8:05 p.m. at Coleman Coliseum (Tuscaloosa, AL) South Carolina (1-1 SEC) 24 HARRIS, Damontre f JACKSON, Lakeem f MULDROW, Sam f RICHARDSON, Brian g ELLINGTON, Bruce g SMITH, Eric GALLOWAY, Ramon COOKE, Malik SLAWSON, RJ Team Totals FG % 1st Half: % 3FG % 1st Half: % FT % 1st Half: % 2nd half: % 2nd half: % 2nd half: % Game: % Game: % Game: % Alabama (2-0 SEC) 2 01 Green, JaMychal f Mitchell, Tony f Hines, Chris f Releford, Trevor g Davis, Charvez g Eblen, Ben Hillman, Senario Steele, Andrew Team Totals FG % 1st Half: % 3FG % 1st Half: % FT % 1st Half: % 2nd half: % 2nd half: % 2nd half: % Officials: Ted Valentine, Tom Eades, Anthony Jordan Technical fouls: South Carolina-None. 22 Game 17 - South Carolina 81 - Arkansas 74 (OT) columbia, s.c. - jan. 19, 2011 COLUMBIA, S.C.. (AP) - - Sam Muldrow scored five of his 20 points in overtime to lead South Carolina to an victory over Arkansas on Wednesday night. The Gamecocks (12-5, 3-1 Southeastern Conference) trailed by nine points midway through the second half and were still down with 2:30 left before the comeback. South Carolina s Ramon Galloway had a 3-pointer and Malik Cooke a pair of foul shots to tie the game in regulation and Bruce Ellington put the Gamecocks up for good with a foul shot to start the extra period. Ahead 73-70, Muldrow iced the game with a 3-pointer from the left corner with 1:38 to go. Arkansas (12-5, 2-2) couldn t get closer than five points the rest of the way. Marshawn Powell had a career high 21 points for the Razorbacks. Muldrow, who hit a critical late 3-pointer in South Carolina s win at Florida on Saturday, added eight rebounds and six blocks. Ramon Galloway had 21 points to lead the Gamecocks, who continued their surprising start in the SEC. They moved on top of the Eastern Division a quarter of the way through the league season. For most of the second half, Arkansas didn t give South Carolina much hope for success. The Razorbacks attacked the basket on the way to a lead. They made their first seven shots of the period and when Delvon Johnson made a close-in bucket with 10:43 left, the Razorbacks had their biggest lead of the night. Arkansas was still in control at after Julysses Nobles made two foul shots with 2:30 to go. But the Razorbacks didn t score again in regulation. Galloway started South Carolina s comeback with a long 3-pointer, then Cooke hit his free throws with 1:34 left. Nobles had Arkansas last chance to move in front, but missed a shot in the lane that South Carolina point guard Bruce Ellington picked up. Ellington and Cooke each missed shots in the final 2.3 seconds to lead to overtime. Arkansas posted victories over league power Tennessee and Alabama. South Carolina knocked Vanderbilt from the rankings in its conference opener and backed that up last Saturday with a win at Florida s difficult O Connell Center. Where the Razorbacks have struggled, though, is away from home, where they re 1-4 outside of the Bud Walton Arena. That showed at South Carolina where Arkansas went 2 of 10 from the field and fell behind in the game s first 9 minutes. The Razorbacks inside game kept them in it as the 6-foot-7 Powell and 6-9 Delvon Johnson combined to go 8 of 11 from the field for 22 points. The Gamecocks, 9-1 at Colonial Life Arena this season, couldn t pull away in part because of foul trouble to leading scorer Ellington. The point guard played just 9 minutes after picking up his second foul and sat the rest of the half. Galloway had 11 points to take up Ellington s scoring slack as South Carolina led at the break. Arkansas leading scorer Rontei Clarke was held to 5 points, almost nine fewer than his average. Game 14 - kentucky 67 - south carolina 58 columbia, s.c. - jan. 22, 2011 COLUMBIA, S.C. - (AP) Brandon Knight had 23 points and Terrence Jones scored 14 as Kentucky held off a late charge by South Carolina for a victory Saturday night. The Wildcats (15-4, 3-2 Southeastern Conference) had spent the past few days dealing with a video clip of head coach John Calipari swearing at Terrence Jones, his 6-foot-8 freshman, about selfishness during a timeout in Tuesday night s loss to Alabama. Kentucky s 16-point lead slipped to with 1:16 left. But Doron Lamb, a freshman like Knight and Jones, hit four consecutive foul shots and the Wildcats escaped with their first victory at the Colonial Life Arena in three years. Calipari was his loud, intense self throughout. He said he knew despite his team s big lead that South Carolina would make a run and tighten things up. They re not veteran enough, Calipari said of his club. But this is a good win. The coach also couldn t resist playfully jabbing at Jones when it was over. I told him we d have a highlight reel of him getting dunked on, Calipari said. He comes back and says, You going to show my dunks, too? Darius Miller added 18 points for Kentucky. Sam Muldrow tied his career high with 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Gamecocks (12-6, 3-2). Kentucky hadn t fared well at South Carolina the past few seasons and its losss here a year ago was one of last season s most talked-about stunners. Those Wildcats had just reached No. 1 for the first time in seven years and, a few hours beforee tip-off, took a congratulatory call from President Barack Obama for their fundraising efforts for Haitian earthquake victims. It all seemed too much for that group, who featured the NBA s top draft pick, John Wall, and fellow first-rounder DeMarcus Cousins. South Carolina struggled to keep up. Its own stellar freshman, point guard Bruce Ellington, played just 8 minutes in the first half with foul trouble. The Gamecocks leading scorer was held to eight points, about seven fewer than his average. Muldrow had his fifth double-double of the season, but he was among the few Gamecocks finding the basket. While the South Carolina senior went 7 of 12 from the floor, his teammates were 12 for 45. South Carolina coach Darrin Horn said it s difficult to rally when you fall as far behind as the Gamecocks did. Our kids fought and gave us a chance to win at the end, but the game started with a bad tone and a bad mood so it was tough to overcome that, Horn said. 23 Game 19 - Auburn 79 - south carolina 64 columbia, s.c. - jan. 29, 2011 COLUMBIA, S.C. - Ramon Galloway had a game-high 20 points in his first start of the season, but it wasn t enough as South Carolina dropped a decision to Auburn Saturday in SEC action. South Carolina senior Sam Muldrow contributed 14 points and finished one rebound shy of his sixth double-double of the season. He and classmate Johndre Jefferson both contributed five blocked shots. Saturday s game was the annual Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers awareness weekend with coaches from both teams wearing sneakers to demonstrate their support for the American Cancer Society. The Gamecocks cruised to an early 15-8 lead but then went cold from the field. Auburn raced out to a 17-5 run and held onto the lead for the remainder of the game. Game 20 - south carolina 64 - LSU 56 Baton rouge, la. - feb. 2, 2011 Galloway earned the start for the Gamecocks (12-7, 3-3 SEC) with regular starter junior Lakeem Jackson not suiting up due to a sore left foot. Galloway responded with 20 points, three assists and four rebounds, but four Tigers (8-13, 1-6 SEC) - led by center Rob Chubb s 18 points - also reached double- digits to lead Tony Barbee s team to its first conference victory of the season. BATON ROUGE, La. - (AP) Bruce Ellington scored 20 points and South Carolina snapped a two-game skid with a victory over LSU on Wednesday night that sent the Tigers to their fifth straight loss. Malik Cooke added 12 points for the Gamecocks (13-7, 4-3 Southeastern Confer- ence), who never trailed and led by as many as 13 before holding off a late LSU comeback bid by allowing only three points over the final 3:52. Andre Stringer scored 19 points for LSU (10-12, 2-5), while Garrett Green added 12 points and nine rebounds. Malcolm White added 10 points, but the Tigers shot only 35.3 percent (18 of 51) and had six shots blocked, including four by Sam Muldrow. South Carolina led by only four points at halftime but quickly widened the margin to when Ellington opened the second half with a 3 and Ramon Galloway added a jumper. The lead hovered around double digits for much of the second half and grew to after Galloway s 3 from the right wing was followed by Damontre Harris follow-up dunk with 7:23 to go. LSU made one last bid to get back into it with a 9-0 run ignited by White s inside basket as he was fouled. Ralston Turner added a jumper and Aaron Dotson a 3-pointe er from the corner during the surge. Then Stringer s driving layup, set up by a flamboyant crossover dribble, capped the surge that pulled LSU to and brought the crowd to its feet with 3:52 left in the game. Soon after, however, Turner fouled out and South Carolina began to pull away again when Ellington hit a clutch pull-up jumper and Muldrow scored inside to make it with 2 minutes to play. LSU never threatened after that. South Carolina led by as many as nine in the first half when Brian Richardson hit a 3 with 3:56 to go. Stringer responded with a 3, then Dotson hit a jumper and Stringer added a free throw to pull LSU as close as 26-23, but the first of Ellington s three 3-pointers put the Gamecocks back up by six. LSU closed the half with Green s free throws to pull to 31-27, but would not get closer than four points for the rest of the way. 24 Game 21 - no. 23/24 vanderbilt 78 - south carolina 60 nashville, tenn. - feb. 5, 2011 NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Four Gamecocks hit double figures, but sharp shooting from beyond the arc led No. 24 Vanderbilt to a victory Saturday at Memorial Gym. Earning his second consecutive start, Ramon Galloway led the Gamecocks with 16 points and four steals before fouling out. Bruce Ellington addedd 13 points and big men Malik Cooke and Sam Muldrow chipped in 12 and 11 a piece, but Vanderbilt used an 11-for-20 (.550) effort from beyond the arc to help put the game away. Both team remain in the SEC East race with identical 4-4 SEC records. The Commodores improve to 16-6 overall while the Gamecocks fall to Lakeem Jackson added seven assists in his second game back after injury. The teams swapped the lead five times with four ties in the opening half. El- lington hit a jumper, and Galloway scored on a layup to pull the Gamecocks within But Festus Ezeli scored underneath, and freshman Rod Odom hit a 3 just before the buzzer for the biggest lead of the half for either team as Vanderbilt entered the break with a advantage. South Carolina returns home Wednesday when the team hosts Florida at 8 p.m. The Gamecocks defeated the East-leading Gators in Gainesville last month. The Associated Press contributed to this report Game 22 - florida 79 - south carolina 60 columbia, s.c. - feb. 9, 2011 COLUMBIA, S.C. - Three Gamecocks hit double digits, but hot shooting and a quick start by No. 17 Florida gave the Gators the victory Wednesday night at Colonial Life Arena. Florida s Erving Walker scored a season-high 25 points as only six Gators scored in the contest. Florida remains in the SEC East lead with an 8-2 conference record (19-5 overall). South Carolina drops to 13-9 and 4-5 in SEC action. The nation s second-ranked blocking team with 6.8 blocks per game was held to just two rejections in the game, both coming from senior forward Sam Muldrow. Muldrow continued to inch closer to the school s all-time blocks record after getting two blocks in the game. Muldrow, who now has 247 career blocks, is now only three blocks shy of the school record held by Brandon Wallace. Florida jumped out to a 9-0 lead as South Carolina started the game cold on an 0-for-8 effort from the field. It wasn t until Galloway rattled off seven consecutive points in a span of 78 seconds - beginning with his 3 at 14:30 - that the Gamecocks began to turn it into a typical South Carolina-Florida matchup. However, with the previous five games between the teams being decided by 15 points total, the Gators were able to earn the double-digit victory Wednesday night. The Florida lead swelled to 19 early in the second half before Bryan Richardson helped cut the deficit with two consecutive 3-pointers, but it wasn t enough as Florida held on to its lead for the victory. 25 Game 23 - georgia 60 - south carolina 56 columbia, s.c. - feb. 12, 2011 COLUMBIA, S.C. - - Sam Muldrow set the school record for career blocks and Georgia (17-7, 6-4 Southeastern Conference) nearly blew a 23-point lead, but Trey Thompkins - who scored a game-high 16 points to go with nine rebounds - blocked Bruce Ellington s 3-pointer to tie with six seconds left to hang on for the victory over South Carolina at Colonial Life Arena. The Gamecocks (13-10, 4-6) scored just nine points in the first half, four points lower than their previous low of 13 for a half in SEC play. But they ended the game on a run to nearly pull this one out. Sam Muldrow had four blocks, setting a career record at South Carolina with 251 blocks. He also scored 13 points, all in the second half. Muldrow picked up the Gamecocks career block record when he blocked a shot by Chris Barnes on a dunk attempt with about eight minutes to go to beat Brandon Wallace s record of 249 blocks and move into the top 10 in the SEC career list. The Gamecocks made just 4-of-28 shots in the first half, but shot 45.2 percent in the second half and made 14 straight free throws at one point to get back into the game. The Bulldogs looked to have put this one away with an 11-2 run after South Carolina cut its deficit to 14 points with 15:22 left. Dustin Ware and Travis Leslie hit 3s, then Thompkins added a lay-up and another 3-pointer to put Georgia up with 11 minutes left. But South Carolina then went on a 23-7 run that started with a layup by Malik Cooke and three free throws by R.J Slawson. By the time Muldrow hit his second 3-pointer of the game and Bruce Ellington made his first bucket, the Gamecocks were only down with just under five minutes to go. Cooke hit a layup and Muldrow hit two free throws and Georgia was ahead just with 1:26 to go. But Jeremy Price answered with two free throws and South Carolina never had a chance to tie until Ellington s 3 was blocked. Ellington, South Carolina s leading scored at 14.7 points a game, scored just two points, but seemed hobbled for most of the game with a hurt calf. Cooke added 15 points and Slawson added eight points. Georgia dominated the first half, scoring the first eight points of the game before Lakeem Jackson s fastbreak layup with 13:22 to go in the half cut the Bulldogs lead to 8-2. Jackson would be the only starter for the Gamecocks to score in the first half. The Associated Press contributed to this report. Game 24 - tennessee 73 - south carolina 67 knoxville, tenn. Muldrow s points tied his career high and he added 10 rebounds to help the Game- cocks (14-12, 5-8 Southeastern Conference) build a lead with 6 minutes left. That s when the Rebels (17-11, 5-8) went on an 18-4 run, tying the game at 73 on Zach Graham s layup with 1:21 to go. Muldrow answered back for South Carolina, striking for his third 3-pointer of the game. Graham missed a tying 3-pointer on Ole Miss next trip and the Gamecocks closed out their first home victory since Jan. 19 with three free throws. Mississippi s Chris Warren had a career-high 33 points off eight 3-pointers, also the best showing of the senior s career. South Carolina shot 20 of 22 foul shots and outrebounded Ole Miss Behind Muldrow s dominance inside and outside, South Carolina grabbed its first halftime lead in six games. The SEC s No. 2 scorer led the rally with a three-point play and his eighth 3-pointer. Muldrow, though, was the senior with the final response that Warren couldn t match. It was Muldrow s sixth game with double-figure points and rebounds. This one didn t start so well for the Gamecocks, either. Warren had four 3-pointers the first 9 minutes as Ole Miss led Then the Rebels went cold and the Gamecocks played like they hadn t in some time with a 16-2 run to move in front. Muldrow hit a 3-pointer to start the run and Brian Richardson kept it going with another 3.
