The ninth-ranked Baylor Lady Bears put their nation s-best and school-record 59-game home win streak on the line as they host Rice at 7:05 p.m., on Monday, Nov. 18. The contest marks Baylor s first televised broadcast of the season. John Morris will call the play-by-play for the Fox Sports Southwest Plus broadcast while Jim Haller will offer color commentary. The Rice Owls come to the Ferrell Center with a 2-1 mark after posting wins over Prairie View A&M (77-63) and Texas Southern (61-54) and Thursday s a road defeat to McNeese State (65-54) In his 21st season overall and ninth at Rice, head coach Greg Williams Owls are led by senior forward Jessica Kuster s 20.7 points and 15.0 rebounds a contest. She is followed by Megan Palmer, a 6-1 freshman forward, who scores 9.7 a game. Junior post Cristal Porter is the team s second-leading rebounder with 10.0 an outing. Win Streak... Baylor has won a nation s-best and school-record 59 straight home contests, as its last home loss came on March 7, 2010, vs. Texas, In fact, seniors Odyssey Sims and Makenzie Robertson have never lost a game in the Ferrell Center. In the duo s rookie season, BU was 21-0, posted a 19-0 mark as sophomores, was 17-0 last season and is 2-0 in Last Outing... Odyssey Sims moved into second all-time on Baylor s career list for 3-point field goals made. Her four 3-pointers Thursday moved her past Angela Tisdale ( ) and Kristin Mayberry s ( ) mark of 164. Sims has point field goals headed into Baylor s game with Rice. Sims extended her streak of double-digit scoring games to 12. Sims was last held to single-digits against UConn, Feb. 18, 2013, when she had nine. Sims 23 points gave her three-straight games with at least 20 points dating back to last year s NCAA Tournament game with Louisville; and marked the 20th time in her career she passed the 20-point mark. Freshman Nina Davis 28 points helped her reach double figures in each of her first two collegiate games, she also posted her first career double-double with 21 points and 11 boards. Freshman Imani Wright scored 15 points, on 5 of 8 shooting, to give her back-to-back games; with double-digit points; she scored 10 against Grambling. Freshman Khadijiah Cave had the first double-double of her career; she had 17 points and 11 rebounds. Baylor s 111 points vs. Nicholls State and 110 vs. Grambling, gave the Lady Bears their first back-to-back 100+ point games since 2006.

Mulkey is the only women s basketball coach, and one of only three in men s and women s basketball (Bob Knight and Dean Smith), who have won a national championship as both a player and coach. Mulkey is the ONLY basketball coach to win a national championship as a head coach, assistant coach and player. No matter what she s attempted in basketball, whether it be on the court or along the sideline, Mulkey has found success. In just 14 seasons as a head coach, she has attained 374 career victories and ranks No. 2 among the winningest active Division I head coaches (.822) and No. 4 all-time by percentage. It took Geno Auriemma (UConn) and the legendary Pat Summitt (Tennessee) each 14 seasons to attain the 350- win milestone, while Stanford s Tara VanDerveer needed 16 seasons. When the Women's Basketball Hall of Famer accepted the position as Baylor University s women's basketball head coach on April 4, 2000, few could have predicted the dramatic and prestigious transformation the program was about to undergo. In just 13 years at Baylor, the former Olympic Gold medalist has twice guided the Lady Bear basketball program to the pinnacle of women's basketball, the 2005 and 2012 NCAA national championships, 12 NCAA Tournament appearances, 13, 20-win seasons, four, 30-win campaigns and an NCAA record 40 wins and undefeated record in In addition, over the past seven seasons, Mulkey has led the Lady Bears to three Final Four appearances (2005, 10, 12) and nine Big 12 Conference titles. The 2005 national title was Baylor's first for a women's team sport, and just the second in school history overall. In winning the 2005 title, Mulkey became the first person, man or woman, to win a basketball national championship as a player, assistant coach and head coach. En route to the 2005 NCAA championship, the Lady Bears won their first Big 12 Conference championship and were the league's tournament champion, too. In 2009, the Lady Bears added to the trophy case with another Big 12 Tournament crown, claimed both the 2011 regular season and tournament crowns and captured the 2012 regular season title by a record seven games over second-place finishers Oklahoma and Texas A&M and again earned the tournament crown. The Lady Bears duplicated the feat in the season, winning both crowns, and became the first team to win three straight conference tournament titles and five all-told. Mulkey has produced amazing results since taking over the program s reins on April 4, 2000, averaging 28.6 wins a season. In her 14 years at the program's helm, she has posted an impressive (.822) record which ranks her No. 2 nationally in winning percentage. In addition, the Lady Bear program ranks No. 5 among the NCAA Division I's winningest teams over that span. Since coming into the league in , Mulkey owns the top winning percentage and most victories among Big 12 coaches at 82.2 percent (374-81). 3 BAYLOR WOMEN S BASKETBALL GAME NOTES 3 Quick Hits... Baylor s 34 wins last season equaled the second-most in school history joining a 34-win campaign in and just behind victory effort. Odyssey Sims, a 5-8 guard, is averaging 25.5 points, 4.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals as a senior. Baylor s five freshmen are scoring 48.0 percent of the team s points, hauling down 45.9 percent of its rebounds and playing 42.8 percent of the minutes. Of the team s five players averaging double-digit scoring, three are freshmen (Nina Davis, 19.5; Imani Wright, 12.5, Khadijiah Cave, 10.0). Sims, with 478 career assists, now ranks No. 2 on Baylor s career assist list and needs only 16 to take over the top spot from Angela Tisdale (493; ). In her 14 seasons at the program's helm, Kim Mulkey has posted an impressive (.822) record which ranks her No. 2 nationally in winning percentage among active coaches behind UConn s Geno Auriemma (.863). The Lady Bears school-record 59-game home win streak ranks No. 1 nationally. Baylor s 40-game Big 12 Conference regular season win streak is the nation s longest active league win string. BU has won 29-straight regular season games overall since a loss to No. 4 Stanford, Nov. 16, 2012, in Honolulu. In 443 of 455 games under Kim Mulkey, the Lady Bears have held their opponent at or below 50 percent field goal shooting with only four of those efforts coming in the last 12 years. In Baylor s last 255 games, only one opponent (Stanford,.509) has shot 50 percent or above. Last season, the Cardinal broke BU s 217-game streak of holding an opponent to 50 percent or less shooting from the floor. Redshirt senior Mariah Chandler graduated in May 2013, Makenzie Robertson will graduate in December 2013 and Odyssey Sims and Sune Agbuke are slated to walk across the Ferrell Center stage in May Through three-plus years, fourth-year players Odyssey Sims and Makenzie Robertson are (.957) overall and 51-1 (.981) in regular season Big 12 games and are undefeated in the Ferrell Center. The duo has six Big 12 titles, three NCAA Tournament trips, an NCAA championship and two Final Four appearances to their credit. In head coach Kim Mulkey s 14 seasons, Baylor is (.629) against ranked opponents. Since a loss to No. 15 Texas during the season, Baylor is (.704) versus ranked opponents, including 13-0 in and 12-2 in Baylor is (.957) over the past four seasons, 34-3 in , 40-0 in , 34-2 last season and 2-0 this year. In that same span, BU is 60-1 in Big 12 play (51-1 in regular season and 9-0 in Big 12 Tournament). 98 of Baylor s 110 wins over the last three seasons have been by 10 or more points, and only five times has its winning margin been five or fewer points. Baylor tied its all-time single-game attendance record with 10,627 vs. Kansas State on March 4, It marked the program s 12th sellout, was the 20th 10,000-plus crowd in program history and third of the season. Baylor s 155,713 attendance (17 games) marks the third-highest single-season total in school history (the top two years BU played 21 and 19 home games respectively) marked the eighth straight season that Baylor drew 100,000 or more fans through the Ferrell Center doors. Cohen has the ability to play inside or step out and play on the perimeter. She was chosen to compete in the USA Basketball s 3-on-3 competition last summer and plays AAU basketball for the Georgia Metros. Micayla Buckner,, a 6-3 post from Garland, Texas (Naaman Forest HS) averaged 13.3 points and 12.2 rebounds per contest The three-time all-district performer also earned district Defensive Player of the Year honors as a junior. Buckner is selected as one of the top five players in the metroplex area and was named to the Dallas Morning News all-area team.
