The Baylor Lady Bears, currently ranked No. 9 in the latest AP listing and No. 8 the Coaches poll and reigning NCAA and Big 12 Conference champions, have a busy week ahead of them. The Lady Bears will play three games, including two on national television, in six days beginning with their Wednesday contest at Iowa State. After traveling to Ames, Iowa, Baylor will return home for a Saturday afternoon (3 p.m.) game with Kansas and then leave Sunday for a Monday night ESPN2 contest at Baton Rouge, La., versus LSU. Baylor s game with Kansas will be televised by College Sports Television (CSTV). Baylor enters the game versus the Iowa State Cyclones with a 13-3 overall record and a 3-3 Big 12 mark. Baylor has won of 48 of its last 55 games and is looking to avoid back-to-back regularseason losses for the first time since the campaign, a span of 84 games. BU s three losses have been by a combined total of eight points. Iowa State enters the contest with a 12-4 season record, a league mark of 3-2 and sporting a twogame win streak after defeating Nebraska and Colorado last week. The Cyclones are 7-1 this season at Hilton Coliseum with Their lone loss at the hands of Oklahoma, Saturday s game matches the league s top two defensive teams, the Cyclones rank No. 1 in field goal percentage defense (.348) while the Lady Bears check in at No. 2 (.363). Baylor also stands No. 2 in scoring defense (58.2 ppg) with Iowa State standing No. 5 at 59.9 ppg. In addition, two of the league s top point guard go against each other. ISU s Lyndsey Medders leads the league in assists (8.81) and averages 16.1 points per game while BU s Angela Tisdale ranks No. 2 in the Big 12 in assists at 6.69 and scores 13.5 a contest. Baylor s Sophia Young, national player of the year candidate and Preseason Big 12 Player of the Year, leads Baylor in both scoring and rebounding at 21.0 points and 10.1 rebounds a game. The Kodak All-American, is No. 1 in the Big 12 in scoring and ranks No. 3 in rebounding. Sophomore point guard Angela Tisdale ranks second on the squad in scoring at 13.5 an outing. Junior forward Abiola Wabara completes BU s double-digit season scoring trio at 10.2 a contest and she ranks second among Lady Bears in rebounding at 6.3 a game.

2 Iowa State, whose starting lineup consists of a senior, two juniors, a sophomore and a freshman, is led by Medders 16.1 points a game. Redshirt senior Brittany Wilkins averages 14.8 points a game and hauls down a team-leading 9.3 rebounds and freshman guard Heather Ezell manages 12.0 an outing. Two other players, Nicky Wieben and Megan Ronhovde, are just shy of double-digit scoring averages with 9.6 and 9.1 points, respectively. BAYLOR QUICK HITS (each entry explained in more depth later in notes package)... Baylor s 30-game win streak equaled the 10th longest in NCAA Division I women s basketball history. BU is 48-7 over its last 55 games. Baylor s three losses have come by a combined total of eight points (at Missouri-3, at Texas Tech-2, vs. Oklahoma-3). Sophia Young is on track to join an elite group who have tallied 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, 300 assists and 300 steals in their NCAA Division I career, as she currently has 2,080 points, 1,149 rebounds, 266 assists and 275 steals. Young needs 254 points and 75 rebounds to become the Big 12's all-time scorer and rebounder. Young is now the No. 2 scorer in Baylor history with 2,080 points, the highest point total since the sport came under NCAA sponsorship in Jordan Davis has missed only six free throws throughout her career (72-78,.923). Prior to missing her first free throw of the season at Texas Tech, she had drained 23 consecutive free throws. Kim Mulkey-Robertson s teams are (.876) in the Ferrell Center. Prior to BU s Jan. 21 loss to Oklahoma, the Lady Bears had won 25 straight home games. In non-conference games, Baylor sports a 17-game home win streak and is 43-2 (.956) in the Ferrell Center under Mulkey-Robertson s tutelage. Baylor has registered 42 straight wins in regular-season non-conference home games. Baylor is (.910) under Mulkey-Robertson when scoring 70 or more points, including 70-3 (.959) when putting 80 or more on the scoreboard. Since coming to BU, Mulkey-Robertson has posted the highest win total (144) and winning percentage (.778) among Big 12 Conference programs. Young has produced double-digit scoring in 113 of 122 games and 62 consecutive. Young has 52 career double-doubles to her credit. Five players, including all four lady Bear freshmen, earned grade point averages of 3.0 or above for the fall semester (Sophia Young, Tricia Abbott, Rachel Allison, Jessica Morrow, Jhasmin Player). BAYLOR IN THE POLLS... Baylor finished last season ranked No. 1 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll and No. 5 in the Associated Press (AP) poll. The Lady Bears, defending NCAA champions, are currently ranked No. 8 in the most recent coaches poll after debuting at No 7 in the preseason poll. The AP poll s Jan. 23 ranking lists Baylor at No. 9 dropping one spot after Wednesday s loss to Oklahoma. Baylor has now been ranked in a school-record 41 straight AP polls dating back to week nine of the listing when it broke in at No. 24. The Lady Bears have not been ranked lower than No. 9 since Nov. 30, THE COACHES... Baylor coach Kim Mulkey-Robertson is in her sixth season and owns a head coaching record which equates to a.778 winning percentage. She has produced 20-win seasons in each of her first five years as a head coach and has taken the Lady Bears to postseason competition every year, four times to the NCAA Tournament and to the 2003 WNIT finals. In 2005, the Lady Bears claimed Baylor s and the Big 12 s first NCAA basketball championship. Mulkey-Robertson is 5-2 versus Iowa State, 1-1 in Ames. Baylor leads the series, 6-5, and has won four of the last five contests between the two schools. However, the Lady Bears haven t fared well in Ames, losing three of the four games played there including the last one, an decision on Feb. 14, The winning team over the first 11 meetings has scored 70 or more points every time, 80 or more eight times (including each of the last five contests). In addition, the Lady Bears sit at No. 4 in Scout.com s listing behind Southern California, Purdue and Stanford and No. 9 in Blue Star Basketball s report. Baylor signed five (Jessika Bradley, Latara Darrett, Whitney Jones, Kaitlin Oberg, Danielle Wilson) players in the early signing period (see page 11 & 12 for signee bios). In addition, the Lady Bears will add Florida transfer Bernice Mosby to the roster. The 6-1 senior forward is sitting out the season after averaging 15.5 points and 8.6 rebounds a game as a junior for the Gators. BAYLOR, YOUNG, TISDALE AMONG NCAA LEADERS... According to the most recent NCAA statistics (through games of Jan. 16) Baylor ranks among the nation s top 35 teams in seven categories. 6 ATTENDANCE RANKINGS... In unofficial attendance rankings maintained by the University of Wisconsin, the Lady Bears currently rank No. 6 nationally with 7,696 fans a game. Ranking ahead of Baylor is Tennessee (14,170), Texas Tech (11,979), Connecticut (11,806), New Mexico (9,588) and Iowa State (8,085). Also, the Baylor-Texas game (10,040) ranks No. 36 and the Baylor-Oklahoma crowd of 9,703 currently ranks No. 40 in top single game attendance for the season. YOUNG ACHIEVES MILESTONES... With her 14-rebound performance against Georgia senior forward Sophia Young surpassed the 1,000-rebound mark. In doing so, she becomes just the fourth Baylor player to attain that mark. Since the Georgia game, Young has risen to No. 2 on the Baylor rebounding charts, currently registering 1,149 boards, passing Maggie Davis Stinnett s 1,022. Suzie Snider Eppers ( ) holds down No. 1 at 2,176. Young achieved another milestone on the last play of the first half against Texas when she scored her 2,000th point. 8 Inducted into the Women s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2000, Mulkey-Robertson inherited a Baylor program that was coming off a 7-20 season and promptly guided the Lady Bears to their first-ever NCAA Tournament and four seasons later, the NCAA championship. In Mulkey-Robertson s five seasons along the Baylor sidelines, the Lady Bears have made four trips to the NCAA Tournament. Since Mulkey-Robertson s arrival, Baylor has posted the ninth-best five-year winning percentage among NCAA Division I schools. After selling a then-record 3,700 last year, sales have skyrocketed to an all-time record 4,971 as of Jan. 5, LAST GAME... WACO, Texas (AP) - Kendra Moore made two 3-pointers in the final 17 seconds, the game-winner coming with less than a second left, and No. 17 Oklahoma beat Baylor on Saturday night to break the Lady Bears' 25- game home winning streak. After Moore put the Sooners (15-4, 5-0 Big 12) up with her first 3-pointer of the game, Baylor pushed the ball up the court for Angela Tisdale's driving layup with 7.2 seconds left. Play continued, and Moore drove to an opening on the right wing and hit with 0.8 seconds left. Baylor got a timeout, but Jordan Davis' desperation inbound pass was knocked down at midcourt as time expired. Courtney Paris had 23 points and 11 rebounds to lead Oklahoma. Paris, a 6- foot-4 freshman center, entered the game second in the Big 12 in scoring with a 20.7 average and tops in rebounding at Moore finished with 14 points and Erin Higgins had 11. Sophia Young led Baylor (13-3, 3-3) with 18 points, three below her Big 12-leading scoring average. She also had nine rebounds. Tisdale had 16 points, Chameka Scott 15 and Abiola Wabara 13. Oklahoma trailed by as many as 10 points in the first half, but tied it at 43 when Paris made an inside basket and then hit a free throw with 13:40 left. Paris missed all four of her free throws in the first half, then made all five after halftime. The game was tied eight more times after that, and the margin was never more than four points. Moore, blocked by Abiola Wabara on the previous offensive possession, penetrated the lane and hit 13- footer with 1:38 left to tie it at 67. Wabara then drove and hit her second free throw after being fouled. Higgins' 3-point attempt hit both sides of the rim before popping out, then Baylor missed two shots of its own before Oklahoma crossed midcourt and called timeout with 31 seconds left. Baylor went go on to reel off 20 straight wins in 2005, including victories over three No.1 NCAA Tournament seeds, North Carolina, LSU and Michigan State, to claim its first national title.
