The game will include a celebration of Ohio s MAC regular season title and a performance from the full Marching 110. u Saturday s game pits a pair of recent NCAA Sweet 16 participants, as both UNI (2010) and Ohio (2012) have made an NCAA regional semifinal appearance in the past five seasons. u The Bobcats are all-time in season openers and have won their last nine (all inside the Convocation Center). u Ohio won its lone exhibition contest, 66-44, over Division II opponent Ashland on Nov. 2 at the Convo. Senior Nick Kellogg (Westerville, Ohio) led the Cats with 12 points, while junior guard Stevie Taylor (Gahanna, Ohio) added 10 points, six rebounds and a game-high seven assists. u The Bobcats limited the Eagles to just 32.6 percent shooting (15-46) from the floor, including a 6-for-21 mark (.286) from 3-point territory. 2 Last Time Out - Ohio 66, Ashland 44 Convocation Center - November 2, 2013 ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio men s basketball team put forth a strong defensive effort Saturday during a exhibition win over Ashland University inside the Convocation Center. The Bobcats held the Eagles to 32.6 percent (15-46) shooting from the floor and forced 18 turnovers while making 12 steals. The Bobcats held a edge in points in the paint and netted 10 fast break points to Ashland s two. Ohio shot 52.9 percent (27-51) from the field and connected on eight 3-pointers in the game. The Bobcats also dished out 19 assists and held a edge in rebounding. Senior guard Nick Kellogg (Westerville, Ohio) scored a gamehigh 12 points, including two 3-pointers, while senior guard/ forward Ricardo Johnson (Covington, Ky.) pitched in 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting and added four assists and four rebounds. Junior guard Stevie Taylor (Gahanna, Ohio) had a solid allaround game with 10 points, six rebounds and a game-high seven assists, while junior forward Maurice Ndour (Mbour, Senegal) notched nine points and three rebounds in his Bobcat debut. A LOOK AT NORTHERN IOWA Northern Iowa was picked to finished third in the Missouri Valley Conference behind 2013 Final Four participant Wichita State and Indiana State. The Panthers return two starters and nine letter winners from last season s team, which finished its season with a loss to Weber State in the semifinals of the College Invitational Tournament. NIU has dispatched of Bemidji State and Dubuque in the team s two preseason exhibition contests this season. Junior forward Seth Tuttle led the team in scoring in both scrimmages with 21 points in each. Tuttle, a preseason All-MVC player, averaged 11.4 points and 6.6 rebounds per game last season. The other returning starter is junior guard Deon Mitchell, who led the team in assists last season with 3.6 while adding 9.3 points per game. HISTORY vs. NORTHERN IOWA The Bobcats won the only regular season meeting between the schools on Dec. 20, 2011, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Two current Ohio seniors played well in the contest, as senior Nick Kellogg notched 11 points against the Panthers (3-5 3pt FG) while T.J. Hall added 10 points and four rebounds. HISTORY vs. MISSOURI VALLEY CONFERENCE OPPONENTS The Green & White have posted a all-time record against teams currently in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Bobcats will suit up against the Buckeyes on Nov. 12 for the first time since the season. Ohio also will host A-10 favorite Massachusetts in December. The average RPI of Ohio s nonconference opponents is 152, compared to last season s average of 168. The league schedule will include 18 games for the first time since The Bobcats will play each East Division foe twice, as well as MAC West opponents Western Michigan and Toledo on two occasions.

Over the past two campaigns, the Bobcats have set a program record with 53 combined victories (24 in ; 29 in ). The team also has posted at least 22 wins in three of four seasons for just the second time in school history. INTIMIDATING FRONT LINE The Bobcats will feature one of the most active front lines in the MAC this season. Ohio returns one of its top defensive players in redshirt senior Jon Smith (Grove City, Ohio), who ranked seventh in the MAC in blocks last season and is eighth all-time at Ohio in that category (93 career blocks). In addition, the Cats welcome junior college transfer Maurice Ndour (Mbour, Senegal), who ranked 27th in the NJCAA in blocks and 13th in rebounding. Ndour averaged a double-double (16.2 ppg, 10.6 rpg) last season at Monroe College (N.Y.). TRAVELS WITH MAURICE Newcomer Maurice Ndour may well be the most worldly student-athlete to ever enter the Bobcat program. A native of Mbour, Senegal, Ndour left his home country as a teenager to pursue a high school basketball career in Japan. After four seasons at Okayama Gakugeikan on the island of Honshu, Ndour began his college career at Monroe, a junior college in New Rochelle, N.Y. As a result of his world travels, Ndour is fluent in five languages: English, French, Japanese and two African dialects (Wolof and Serer). Ndour was ranked No. 86 among junior college prospects by JUCORECRUITING. com this past year. BIG CATS The Bobcats will feature one of the tallest teams the program has seen over the past few years. Ohio scholarship players stand at an average of 77.5 inches, marking the highest player height average since the season (77.55 ). KELLOGG SETS SIGHTS ON 3-POINT RECORDS Senior guard Nick Kellogg (Westerville, Ohio) enters his final year in Athens with a chance to surpass a number of school records from beyond the arc. Kellogg currently ranks sixth all-time in 3-pointers made (203), seventh in 3-point attempts (506) and fifth in 3-point field goal percentage (.401). Kellogg also is ninth all-time in games started at Ohio. WILLIS, SETTY READY FOR ACTION After sitting out the season due to NCAA transfer guidelines, junior guard Javarez Bean Willis (Homer, La./Texas Tech) and sophomore forward Treg Setty (Maysville, Ky./Southern Illinois) are eligible to suit up for the Bobcats this season. Willis started 30 of 31 games for the Red Raiders in and averaged 8.1 ppg while distributing 58 assists (second-most on the team). Setty started 10 contests for the Salukis in and averaged 4.4 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. WELCOME FRESHMEN The Bobcats will feature five freshman student-athletes in Guard/forward D.J. Wingfield (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) is a three time first team all-state selection and was named the Ohio District IV Player of the Year in Forward Antonio Campbell (Covington, Ky./Holy Cross) is a 6-foot-8-inch, 279-pound forward who was named the Kentucky District Nine Player of the Year this past season. 6-foot-10-inch forward Wadly Mompremier (Miami, Fla./Miami Senior), 6-foot-9-inch guard/forward Khari Harley (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor Township) and 6-foot walk-on Drew Crabtree (Marysville, Ohio/North Union) round out the group. BIG SHOES TO FILL For the first time since 2009, the Bobcats will be without the services of the all-time winningest class in school history. The tandem of Ivo Baltic, D.J. Cooper, Reggie Keely, Walter Offutt and David McKinley combined for 94 wins over four seasons while leading the team to three NCAA Tournament victories, an NIT berth, two MAC Tournament titles and a MAC regular season championship. CHRISTIAN S MAC CROWN Head coach Jim Christian enters his second season on the sidelines for the Bobcats. With last season s campaign, Christian improved his winning percentage as a MAC skipper to.704 (162-68), the best mark in conference history by a sizable margin. His conference game winning percentage of.750 (90-30) is second only to Bill Rohr (.757), who led Miami from A LOOK BACK AT THE SEASON u Ohio earned a berth in the NIT for the first time since the campaign. It was the team s fifth bid in school history. u The Bobcats earned a share of the 2013 MAC regular season title with Akron. MEDIA INFORMATION CREDENTIALS A pass list will determine access through the pass gate in the Convocation Center. Approved media members may pick up their credentials at the pass gate. A credential also is required for photographers and television crews who need access to the floor. A 24-hour notice is appreciated for media members to have their name added to the pass list. The all-time winningest coach in Mid-American Conference history, Jim Christian became the 17th head coach in Ohio men s basketball history in April A two-time Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year, Christian has led his teams at Ohio, TCU and Kent State to a combined seven post-season appearances in 11 seasons on the bench. During his career, Christian has mentored three All-Americans, three MAC Players of the Year and 28 all-conference selections. In just his first season at the helm in Athens, Christian earned NABC District 14 Coach of the Year honors after leading the Bobcats to a share of their first MAC regular season title since the campaign. The Bobcats earned a berth in the National Invitation Tournament for the first time since 1995 and tied Ohio program records with 14 league wins and seven MAC road victories. Ohio s record increased Christian s winning percentage while in the league to.704 (162-68), the best mark in MAC history by a sizable margin. Christian s squad led the nation in assists per game (17.5) and ranked seventh in the country in turnover margin (+4.7), behind All-America honorable mention point guard D.J. Cooper. The first MAC Player of the Year from Ohio since 1995, Cooper ranked eighth in the nation in assists per game and became the first player in NCAA Division I history to record at least 2,000 points, 900 assists, 600 rebounds and 300 steals in a career. In addition to Cooper s superb campaign, Christian mentored a duo of third team All-MAC selections in Walter Offutt and Reggie Keely. Under Christian s tutelage, both seniors earned All-MAC honors for the first time in their careers. Christian returned to the MAC in 2012 after completing four seasons as the men s basketball head coach at Texas Christian University. In his final season in Fort Worth ( ), he led the Horned Frogs to their first postseason appearance since He coached six All-Mountain West Conference honorees, including first-team choice Hank Thorns Jr. and third-team pick J.R. Cadot. Thorns also appeared on the watch list for the Bob Cousy Award presented to the nation s top point guard and was named to the All-District 17 Second Team by the NABC. Thorns led TCU in in scoring (13.5 ppg), assists (4.66 apg) and 3-pointers (72). He also produced one of the top seasons ever for a TCU point guard in , as he finished as the only individual ranked among the nation s top-12 players in both assists per game (No. 4) and assist-turnover ratio (No. 12). To begin his tenure at TCU, Christian became the third coach in program history to win his first game as head coach and guided the Frogs to significant victories during the campaign, including home triumphs over Wichita State, UNLV, SMU and Colorado State. TCU notched its first six-game winning streak since the campaign and recorded nine-consecutive victories at home for the first time in over a decade. Christian came to TCU after serving as the head men s basketball coach ( ) for six seasons, where he won at least 20 games in each campaign. In his six seasons as head coach of the Golden Flashes, Christian climbed to second place on the all-time career victories list, only 10 triumphs shy of the record.
