The Bobcats and Bears tip at 7:30 p.m. from Hill Field House. It s a return game after Morgan State visited Athens in Ohio won that game, u The Bobcats will be looking for their first non-conference road win since a victory at Northern Iowa in Dec u Last time out, Ohio moved to 2-0 at home this season with a win over Valparaiso Sunday in the Convo. After Ohio held a 16-point lead (62-46) midway through the second half, Valpo rallied to take a two-point lead (72-70) with 2:18 to play. But Ohio shut out the Crusaders in the final minutes to clinch the win. u The Bobcats made a season-high 12 steals in the contest and forced 19 Valparaiso turnovers. Ohio held a edge in points off turnovers in the contest. u Ohio also swatted 10 shots against the Crusaders, marking the first time since a December 2011 game against Marietta that the Bobcats blocked at least 10 shots. Ohio has only reached the 10-block plateau seven times since u Junior forward Maurice Ndour played a stellar all-around game for Ohio. The Mbour, Senegal, native finished with career bests in points (23), field goals made (9), blocks (5) and steals (4) while adding six rebounds in the contest. 2 Last Time Out - Ohio 76, Valparaiso 72 Convocation Center - November 17, 2013 ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University men s basketball team (2-1) fought off a late deficit Sunday afternoon before finishing the game with a 6-0 run to pull out a win over Valparaiso (2-2) inside the Convocation Center. The Bobcats started hot, hitting 8-of-9 shots in the opening minutes and racing out to a 20-8 lead. The hard fighting Crusaders trailed until the 2:18 mark in the second half when the away team took a lead, but they wouldn t score again in the game s final minutes. Ohio was led by junior forward Maurice Ndour (Mbour, Senegal), who finished with career bests in points (23), blocks (5) and steals (4) while adding six rebounds. Senior Nick Kellogg has scored in double figures in all three games for the Bobcats in and added 16 points (4-of-9 3pt FG) and four rebounds Sunday against the Crusaders. Senior forward Jon Smith (Grove City, Ohio) posted seven points, seven rebounds and added four blocks. Smith eclipsed the 100-block plateau for his career and is eighth all-time at Ohio (101) in the category. A LOOK AT MORGAN STATE Morgan State was picked to finish second in the MEAC in the league s preseason poll. The Bears return four starters and 13 of 14 letter winners from a team that posted a (10-6 MEAC) record and reached the final of the 2013 MEAC Tournament (L, to North Carolina A&T). This season, the Bears have dropped their first three contests, including road set backs to Ohio State (89-50) and cross-town foe Towson (95-75). The Bears fell in their home opener to the San Diego Toreros, 68-61, on Saturday. Preseason All-MEAC selection Justin Black is tied for fifth in the conference this season with 21.0 points per game. The senior also averages 4.7 rebounds per game and is shooting 42.9 percent from the floor. Sophomore forward Cedric Blossom is the team s leading rebounder (5.7 rpg) while averaging 6.7 points per game. HISTORY vs. MORGAN STATE Ohio won the only contest between the Bobcats and Bears during the season, when the Green & White upended Morgan State, on Dec. 1 in the Convo. Senior guard Nick Kellogg chipped in 10 points in the game during his sophomore season, while classmate Ricardo Johnson added six points. HISTORY vs. MEAC OPPONENTS The Green & White have posted a perfect 9-0 record all-time against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opponents. The Bobcats defeated two MEAC foes last season, including Hampton (75-67) and Maryland-Eastern Shore (93-57). Junior forward Maurice Ndour (Mbour, Senegal) earned the accolade Monday after averaging16.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 56.5 percent (13-23) from the field in two games for Ohio this week. Senior Nick Kellogg (Westerville, Ohio) garnered player of the week honors on Nov. 11 after posting 16 points - including 14 in the second half - against Northern Iowa in a season-opening win inside the Convocation Center. BOBCATS FEATURE IMPRESSIVE PERIMETER DEFENSE Through three contests this season, Ohio has yet to allow an opponent to shot more than 30 percent from 3-point territory. The Bobcats have held Northern Iowa (.273), No. 8/8 Ohio State (.278) and Valparaiso (.286) under the mark in Overall, Ohio is limiting its opponents to just 38.8 percent shooting from the floor (57-147) this season. A four-star, top-100 recruit according to Scout.com, Owens is listed as the No. 21 power forward in the Class of 2014 and the 99th best prospect overall. Crute is ranked as the 17th best Georgia OHIO MEN S BASKETBALL prospect in the Class of 2014 and No. 57 at his position by ESPN.com. Morillo - a former teammate of current Bobcat Maurice Ndour - is in his second year at Monroe College (15.8 ppg), while Wigginton is averaging more than 20 points per game for the top-ranked College of Central Florida Panthers (JUCO). BOBCATS HOST OHIO CLASSIC From Nov. 17-Nov. 30, Ohio will host four contests as part of the Ohio Classic. The round-robin event includes matchups with Valparaiso (W, 76-72), Heidelberg (Nov. 23), Mercer (Nov. 26) and Evansville (Nov. 30). UP NEXT Ohio returns home for its second of four contests in the 2013 Ohio Classic. After defeating Valparaiso (76-72) to open the event, the Green & White now host Heidelberg on Saturday at 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the Ohio IMG Sports Network, with pre-game coverage kicking off at 1:30 p.m. KELLOGG APPROACHING 1,000 CAREER POINTS Senior guard Nick Kellogg (Westerville, Ohio) needs just 71 points to become the 36th 1,000-point scorer in Ohio history. In other Kellogg milestone news, the senior started his 100th career game against Valparaiso and is now eighth all-time in that category at Ohio. KELLOGG SETS SIGHTS ON 3-POINT RECORDS Senior guard Nick Kellogg (Westerville, Ohio) enters his final year in Athens with a chance to surpass a number of school records from beyond the arc. With his third 3-pointer against No. 10/9 Ohio State, Kellogg passed Steve Esterkamp ( ) and moved into fourth on the all-time 3-pointers made list at Ohio. He s now made 212 triples in his career. The senior also is sixth all-time in 3-point attempts (527) and fifth in 3-point field goal percentage (.402). TOUGH FIRST FOUR Ohio s first four games include two home contests and two away tilts. The Bobcats had opened the previous four seasons with at least four-consecutive home matchups. This is the first season since that Ohio has played a road game in its first four matchups. Three of Ohio s first four opponents (UNI, Ohio State, Valpo) reached the post-season in SCHEDULE PRESENTS CHALLENGES This season s schedule features 14 games against teams that qualified for postseason play in and a marquee intra-state matchup with Ohio State. The Bobcats suited up against the Buckeyes on Nov. 12 for the first time since the season. Ohio also will host A-10 favorite Massachusetts in December. The average RPI of Ohio s non-conference opponents is 152, compared to last season s average of 168. The league schedule will include 18 games for the first time since The Bobcats will play each East Division foe twice, as well as MAC West opponents Western Michigan and Toledo on two occasions. GOLDEN AGE OF OHIO HOOPS In what is quickly becoming the golden era of Ohio University men s basketball, the Bobcats have participated in post-season action for a school-record four-consecutive seasons (2 NCAA, 1 NIT, 1 CIT). Over the past two campaigns, the Bobcats have set a program record with 53 combined victories (24 in ; 29 in ). The team also has posted at least 22 wins in three of four seasons for just the second time in school history. INTIMIDATING FRONT LINE The Bobcats will feature one of the most active front lines in the MAC this season. Ohio returns one of its top defensive players in redshirt senior Jon Smith (Grove City, Ohio), who ranked seventh in the MAC in blocks last season and is eighth all-time at Ohio in that category (97 career blocks). In addition, the Cats welcome a strong shot blocker in junior college transfer Maurice Ndour (Mbour, Senegal), who ranked 27th in the NJCAA in blocks and 13th in rebounding last season. Smith and Ndour have combined for 16 blocks in three games this season. TRAVELS WITH MAURICE Newcomer Maurice Ndour may well be the most worldly student-athlete to ever enter the Bobcat program. A native of Mbour, Senegal, Ndour left his home country as a teenager to pursue a high school basketball career in Japan. After four seasons at Okayama Gakugeikan on the island of Honshu, Ndour began his college career at Monroe, a junior college in New Rochelle, N.Y. As a result of his world travels, Ndour is fluent in five languages: English, French, Japanese and two African dialects (Wolof and Serer). Ndour was ranked No. 86 among junior college prospects by JUCORECRUITING. com this past year. BIG CATS The Bobcats will feature one of the tallest teams the program has seen over the past few years. Ohio scholarship players stand at an average of 77.5 inches, marking the highest player height average since the season (77.55 ). WILLIS, SETTY READY FOR ACTION After sitting out the season due to NCAA transfer guidelines, junior guard Javarez Bean Willis (Homer, La./Texas Tech) and sophomore forward Treg Setty (Maysville, Ky./Southern Illinois) are eligible to suit up for the Bobcats this season. Wingfield (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) is a three time first team all-state selection and was named the Ohio District IV Player of the Year in Forward Antonio Campbell (Covington, Ky./Holy Cross) is a 6-foot-8-inch, 279-pound forward who was named the Kentucky District Nine Player of the Year this past season. 6-foot-10-inch forward Wadly Mompremier (Miami, Fla./Miami Senior), 6-foot-9-inch guard/forward Khari Harley (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor Township) and 6-foot walk-on Drew Crabtree (Marysville, Ohio/North Union) round out the group. BIG SHOES TO FILL For the first time since 2009, the Bobcats will be without the services of the all-time winningest class in school history. The tandem of Ivo Baltic, D.J. Cooper, Reggie Keely, Walter Offutt and David McKinley combined for 94 wins over four seasons while leading the team to three NCAA Tournament victories, an NIT berth, two MAC Tournament titles and a MAC regular season championship. BOBCATS ON TV The Ohio University men s basketball team will have as many as 11 games televised live during the campaign, including 10 league contests through the MAC television platform. Ohio made its television debut on Nov. 12 when the Cats took on No. 10/9 Ohio State on the Big Ten Network. Ohio also has six Mid-American Conference games scheduled on the Time Warner Cable SportsChannel platform, with the possibility of four additional contests on either Time Warner Cable Sports Channel, ESPNU or ESPN2. All TWC telecasts are offered to ESPN for inclusion on ESPN3, Watch ESPN and ESPN Full Court. CHRISTIAN S MAC CROWN Head coach Jim Christian enters his second season on the sidelines for the Bobcats. With his record at Ohio, Christian has improved his winning percentage as a MAC skipper to.704 (164-69), the best mark in conference history by a sizable margin. MEDIA INFORMATION CREDENTIALS A pass list will determine access through the pass gate in the Convocation Center. Approved media members may pick up their credentials at the pass gate. A credential also is required for photographers and television crews who need access to the floor. A 24-hour notice is appreciated for media members to have their name added to the pass list. PHOTO/VIDEO CREDENTIALS All gameday photography requests need to be cleared through the media relations office. Each media outlet must apply for photography credentials at least 24 hours before each game. No season credentials will be issued this season. The all-time winningest coach in Mid-American Conference history, Jim Christian became the 17th head coach in Ohio men s basketball history in April A two-time Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year, Christian has led his teams at Ohio, TCU and Kent State to a combined seven post-season appearances in 11 seasons on the bench. During his career, Christian has mentored three All-Americans, three MAC Players of the Year and 28 all-conference selections. In just his first season at the helm in Athens, Christian earned NABC District 14 Coach of the Year honors after leading the Bobcats to a share of their first MAC regular season title since the campaign. The Bobcats earned a berth in the National Invitation Tournament for the first time since 1995 and tied Ohio program records with 14 league wins and seven MAC road victories. Ohio s record increased Christian s winning percentage while in the league to.704 (162-68), the best mark in MAC history by a sizable margin. Christian s squad led the nation in assists per game (17.5) and ranked seventh in the country in turnover margin (+4.7), behind All-America honorable mention point guard D.J. Cooper. The first MAC Player of the Year from Ohio since 1995, Cooper ranked eighth in the nation in assists per game and became the first player in NCAA Division I history to record at least 2,000 points, 900 assists, 600 rebounds and 300 steals in a career. In addition to Cooper s superb campaign, Christian mentored a duo of third team All-MAC selections in Walter Offutt and Reggie Keely. Under Christian s tutelage, both seniors earned All-MAC honors for the first time in their careers. Christian returned to the MAC in 2012 after completing four seasons as the men s basketball head coach at Texas Christian University. In his final season in Fort Worth ( ), he led the Horned Frogs to their first postseason appearance since He coached six All-Mountain West Conference honorees, including first-team choice Hank Thorns Jr. and third-team pick J.R. Cadot. Thorns also appeared on the watch list for the Bob Cousy Award presented to the nation s top point guard and was named to the All-District 17 Second Team by the NABC.
