The Mocs put three in double figures led by Keiana Gilbert with 13 points and six rebounds and Aryanna Gilbert with 12 points and six boards. Arianne Whitaker snared a game-best 15 rebounds and added two blocked shots while Lakelyn Bouldin chipped in 11 points for Chattanooga. The Mocs held the Paladins to 29.8 percent UP NEXT at Mercer Feb. 22 7:00 p.m. Macon, Ga. shooting but it was the free throw line that proved the difference. Furman was 19-of-20 from the charity stripe on 17 Chattanooga fouls. Cierra Carter was 10-of-10 from the line and led all scorers with 18 points and six rebounds. She was the only Paladin to score in double figures. Celena Taborn and Stepahania Oramas each added nine points and Kaitlyn Duncan had a team-best eight rebounds. Both teams got out to a slow start and it would be just a one-point game after the first 10 minutes with UTC leading The Mocs took a lead into intermission after shooting 32 percent over the first half. Furman was just 2-of-15 (13.3%) in the second quarter, but kept it close making 5-of-6 from the free throw line. The Paladins stepped up the effort in the second half shooting 10-of-23 and making all nine free throw attempts. Chattanooga made 11-of-33 in the half and made its only two 3-pointers of the game in the final 20 minutes. With 10 minutes to play, Furman held a slim lead on the Mocs. Celena Taborn hit a layup to start the fourth quarter to stretch the Paladin lead to UTC went 0-for-3 over the next 2:16 and had a turnover before Furman added another basket to push the lead to with 7:21 to play. Junior Molly Melton was inserted into the lineup and the Mocs got a bank shot from Whitaker, cutting the lead to three points then Melton followed that with a steal and a fastbreak layup, to cut the Paladin lead to with 6:43 remaining. She then forced another turnover and was immediately fouled but UTC couldn t take advantage of the momentum, missing back-to-back 3-pointers. Furman went on a 9-0 run for its largest lead of the game, with 2:19 remaining. Chattanooga would once again slash into the lead with six straight points from its three leading scorers to make it with 59.1 seconds on the clock. The Mocs put Furman at the line for four shots in the final minute and the Paladins converted all four. A 3-pointer from Aryanna gilbert in the final seconds got it to the final, This was the Paladins first win in Chattanooga since the season and the first time they swept the Mocs in that same time frame. Chattanooga s last loss at home was against Appalachian State on Feb. 14, Hands Off The Mocs lead the nation for fewest personal fouls per game committing just 12.0 per game. The Mocs have committed 10 or fewer 12 times this season including a season-low five against Western Carolina and six at Wofford. Mocs Defense UTC is 22nd in the NCAA for scoring defense and second in the SoCon, allowing opponents just 55.8 points per game. The Mocs have held opponents to less than 60 points 17 times this season. UTC has held foes to a 27.8 percent effort from beyond the 3-point line, ranking 23rd in the nation and second in the league. Mocs Block Chattanooga had a season-high nine blocked shots against ETSU and is ranked 68th in the NCAA with 4.3 per game and lead the Southern Conference. From the Outside The Mocs are second in the Southern Conference in 3-point shooting, averaging 5.7 per game. UTC is second in the league in 3-point field goal percentage (.338). Long-Range Bombers The Mocs have made at least one 3-pointer in 587 consecutive games dating back to December Chattanooga reached the 500-game mark against Butler in November UTC Wins Big The Mocs have wins this season over Indiana and Northwestern of the Big 10, Florida and Auburn of the SEC and Georgetown of the Big East. This is the first time the Mocs have recorded wins over four Power 5 conference teams in the same season. Mocs Claim Challenge in Music City Title With wins over Northwestern, Georgetown and Auburn, the Mocs claimed the Challenge in Music City championship. On the Rebound After falling in its first three games for the first time since , UTC snapped the skid and won its next six games. In the final five non-conference games, UTC went 3-2 with wins over FGCU, Florida and Hampton. Mocs Picked to Finish Second The Mocs were picked to finish second in the Southern Conference preseason poll by both the SoCon Coaches and Media. Chattanooga tied Mercer in each of the last two seasons. The Bears were picked to finish first in both polls. On the Road - again and again and again The Mocs opened the season on the road at Green Bay, starting a 15-day, eight-game stretch that included just two games at home. UTC traveled nearly 4,000 miles and played in four different cities outside Chattanooga in the month of November alone. Summer Vacation in Vancouver The Mocs made their first summer trip in August, heading to Vancouver, British Columbia for a three-game set. UTC swept all three opponents including Trinity Western (75-69), VK U17 (94-39) and University of the Fraser Valley (74-71). While in the Northwest, the Mocs rode a tram up Grouse Mountain, saw grizzly bears and a Lumberjack show, crossed the Capilano Suspension Bridge and dared Sasquatch the third longest continuous zipline in the world between Blackcomb and Whistler Mountains. Regular Season Titles The Mocs have won 21 regular season SoCon titles including the last five. Sharon Fanning won the first three beginning in Craig Parrott won two in his tenure. Wes Moore, the winningest women s basketball coach in SoCon history, led the Mocs to 12 in 15 years. Jim Foster has won the regular season in each of his four seasons at Chattanooga. SoCon Tournament Crowns The Mocs are winners of 18 SoCon Tournament crowns. Sharon Fanning won the first three. Craig Parrot won two and led UTC to the first NCAA Tournament appearance by a SoCon women s team. Wes Moore claimed nine of UTC s

5 18 and Jim Foster has led the Mocs to four in his four seasons. 20 Wins The Mocs topped the 20-win mark for the 21st season since and fifth straight last season. Sharon Fanning had three 20-win seasons, Craig Parrott had one, Wes Moore topped 20 wins 13 times in 15 years and Jim Foster has reached the mark all four seasons at UTC. 44 Seasons UTC begins its 44th season of play as a Division I team and has had just five coaches in it s history. The Mocs are over 43 years, averaging just under 20 wins per season. INDIVIDUAL NOTES Honors & Accolades Aryanna Gilbert Gator Holiday Classic CSM Keiana Gilbert Chall. in Music City SoCon CSM SoCon All-Tournament Player of the Week MVP Player of the Week Player of the Week Player of the Week At the Charity Stripe Aryanna Gilbert made her first 23 free throw attempts this season before missing her first against FGCU. She is 50-of-58 from the line and is third in the SoCon making 86.2 percent. Lakelyn Bouldin leads the SoCon making 88.1 percent (59-of-67). Gilberts Tireless Aryanna and Keiana Gilbert lead the SoCon in minutes played per game this season. Kei has played 17 complete games this year including 13 straight, a streak snapped with an injury against Mercer, and two in OT. Ary has gone the distance eight times with two OT games. Kei is averaging minutes per game - ninth in the NCAA - and Ary is 32nd at 36.8 minutes per game. Whitker Builds a Wall Arianne Whitaker recorded six blocked shots, a season-best for the transfer from Winthrop, against Western Carolina. She has 32 on the year and is ranked second in the SoCon and 158th in the NCAA standings. Bouldin Hits Career-Highs Lakelyn Bouldin had a career-high six 3-pointers in the Mocs win over Hampton. She also topped 30 points for the first time in her career with 32 points against the Pirates. A.Gilbert from Long Range Aryanna Gilbert hit a career-high four 3-pointers in the Mocs win over Hampton. She has 32 this season, second for UTC. K.Gilbert With Fifth Career Double-Double Keiana Gilbert had 20 points and 10 rebounds at Furman for her first doubledouble this year and the fifth of her career. Whitaker Hits for Double-Double Arianne Whitaker recorded her first double-double as a Moc with 10 points and 10 rebounds against Florida. In UTC s win over Western Carolina, she tied her career-high with 15 points and matched her season-best with 10 rebounds. K.Gilbert Matches Career-High Senior Keiana Gilbert scored 27 points in the Mocs win at Indiana, matching her careerhigh scored in UTC s win over a ranked Tennessee opponent in her freshman year. She reached that for a second time with 27 against ETSU. Melton Steps into Starting Role In her first two seasons, Molly Melton saw limited action due to injuries. At Stetson, she had five assists, four steals and took five charges to earn a starting spot. In her first six starts, the Mocs went 6-0. Against FGCU, she suffered an injury and missed several weeks. Gilberts lead the Mocs Senior sisters Aryanna and Keiana Gilbert lead the Mocs with 683 of UTC s 1445 points, 47 percent of the Mocs offense. The duo also accounts for 35 percent of Chattanooga s rebounds, have combined for 124 assists, 60 steals and 45 blocked shots though 25 games. Two Named to Preseason All-Conference Team Keiana Gilbert and Lakelyn Bouldin were both selected to the Southern Conference Preseason All-Conference Team. Returning Starters Seniors Aryanna Gilbert and Keiana Gilbert along with sophomore Lakelyn Bouldin are the Mocs three returning starters. The trio accounted for 36 percent of the Mocs scoring last season, 29 percent of the rebounding, combined for 161 assists and 73 assists. Returning Letterwinners Chattanooga s roster features five letterwinners returning for the season. Molly Melton, Shelbie Davenport, Nakeia Burks, Ashlyn Wert and Anna Claire Noblit will fill out the roster of returners. Loaded with Newcomers The Mocs have five freshman. UTC added locals Mya Long and Jacobi Lynn along with Bria Dial, Rochelle Lee and Brooke Burns (Gadsden City). Transfer on the Roster After sitting last season, transfer Arianne Whitaker will make her debut with UTC this season. The Cincinnati, Ohio native spent her freshman campaign at Winthrop. Bouldin Owns Freshman Record Lakelyn Bouldin made 64 3-pointers, passing Brooke Hand s ( ) previous best of 56 set in the season. Hand went on to set the UTC and then-socon record for career 3-pointers with 315. COACHING NOTES Foster Reaches 900 Jim Foster became the eighth coach in women s basketball history to earn 900 wins with the Mocs win over Western Carolina on Feb. 1 in Cullowhee, N.C. He ranks fifth among Division I active coaches and tied for seventh among all coaches (all divisions; active/non-active) for wins. He was the 39th fastest to 600 wins, 17th fastest to 700 and 13th fastest to 800. He is the eighth fastest to reach 900 doing so in his 40th season. Staff Changes With the departure of John McCray to Florida and Brianna Sanders to Akron, Jim Foster made a few changes. Jonathan Goldberg moved from Director of Student-Athlete Development to Assistant Coach. Former Mocs Ka Vonne Towns filled his former position. Debbie Black is the new Director of Operations. Following a Legend Debbie Black has been with Foster at each stop along his career. She played for him at St. Joe s and was on his staff at Vanderbilt and Ohio State. She played professionally in Australia, for the American Basketball League and the WNBA. In 2001, at the age of 35, she was earned Defensive Player of the Year honors. SCHEDULE NOTES Full Slate The Mocs have 28 games on the schedule this season with 14 nonconference games and 14 against the Southern Conference. Non-Conference Slate The Mocs hosted UCF (see note below), Presbyterian (see note), UT Martin, Virginia Tech and Florida Gulf Coast. On the road, UTC traveled to Green Bay, Stetson and Indiana. The Mocs participated in two tournaments. Southern Conference The schedule features 14 SoCon matchups with seven at home and seven away. UTC has won five consecutive SoCon regular season and tournament titles. The Mocs won 11 straight from Back to the Mac The Mocs hosted UCF in Maclellan Gym on Monday, November 13. Chattanooga s last full season in Maclellan Gym was Wes Moore moved the Mocs to the McKenzie Arena full time in his second sesaon ( ). In his first season, the home games were split between the two venues. Tournament Time Chattanooga has two regular season tournaments on the schedule this season. The Mocs won the Music City Challenge at Thanksgiving with wins over Georgetown, Northwestern and Auburn. The round robin event was played at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium. The Mocs beat host Florida at the Gator Holiday Classic at fell to Princeton in the final game. Doubled-Up The schedule features seven home double-headers with the men s basketball team. On the road, the Mocs beat Western Carolina on Feb. 1st to earn Jim Foster his 900th career victory. The men followed with a heartbreaking loss at the wire.
