The network provides in-depth pregame coverage, live play-by-play of all the action, and the post-game press conferences straight from the locker room to stations via satellite each game. The one-hour tailgate show is hosted by John Roth. Three-time North Carolina Broadcaster of the Year Bob Harris, the voice of the Blue Devils for the past 36 seasons, calls all the action for Duke fans each game. He was inducted into the Stanly County (N.C.) Sports Hall of Fame in 1993 and the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in Analyst Wes Chesson joins Harris in the booth each game and is in his 33rd season providing color commentary for Duke games. Chesson, an All-ACC receiver at Duke from , still holds fi ve school receiving records, hauling in 164 catches for 2,399 yards during his playing days. He went on to play with the NFL s Atlanta Falcons ( ) and Philadelphia Eagles ( ). In December of 2000, Harris and Chesson were selected to work the 64th annual Shrine Bowl Game of the Carolinas in Charlotte, N.C. 3 TEAM NOTES NUMBER 8 DECAL Duke dons an 8 decal on the back of its helmets to recognize sophomore WR Blair Holliday, who was injured in a watercraft accident on July 4. Holliday spent over one month at UNC Hospitals before being transferred to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Ga., where he stayed until being released on Friday, August 31. He continues to be a patient at the Shepherd Center. DUKE OFFENSE AMONG PROGRAM S BEST The Blue Devils average 30.1 points per game, which would rank as the third highest scoring average in school history. The Blue Devils have scored at least 30 points six times, already the third most 30-point games in school history. The 1988 and 1989 teams, coached by Steve Spurrier, posted seven 30-point games in back-to-back seasons. Duke has topped the 40-point mark three times in, tied for the fourth most in school history. Duke has scored 30 or more points 22 times during the David Cutcliffe Era, including in six of eight games this season. The Blue Devils have scored 40 or more points 10 times over the past fi ve years and over 50 twice. Duke is 17-5 under Cutcliffe when scoring at least 30 points. W, BLUE DEVILS BECOME BOWL-ELIGIBLE Following a win over North Carolina in week eight, Duke became bowl eligible for the fi rst time since At 6-5, Duke is off to its best start under fi fth-year head coach David Cutcliffe and the program s best start since Duke was the second ACC team to become bowl eliglble in. Clemson was the fi rst, doing so just before Duke in week eight, while Florida State became eligible for post-season play later the same day. Duke is 3-5 all-time in bowl games. Cutcliffe, who has coached in 22 bowl games in his career, is 4-1 (.800) in bowl games as a head coach. He led Ole Miss to wins in the Cotton Bowl (2003) and Independence Bowl (1998, 1999, 2002), and an appearance in the Music City Bowl (2000). HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE The Blue Devils have compiled a 5-1 record at Wallace Wade Stadium this year, matching the school record for home victories in a season. Duke also won fi ve home tilts in 1930, 1932, 1933, 1943, 1974, 1989 and Duke is averaging 38.8 points per game at home, compared to 19.6 points per contest in fi ve road games. Duke has now scored 233 points in its six home games in, the highest six-game home total in school history. Duke has scored at least 33 points in fi ve home games and is outscoring opponents by 12.1 points per game in Wallace Wade Stadium. Duke has scored points in 13 of the last 15 quarters at Wallace Wade Stadium. FOURTH-QUARTER WINS Duke has won two games in the fourth quarter this season, marking the 20th time in school history that the Blue Devils have put together game-winning drives in the fourth quarter. This season, Duke has put together fourth-quarter victories against Wake Forest (34-27) and North Carolina (33-30). Against Wake Forest, Duke entered the fourth quarter tied before backup QB Anthony Boone engineered two TD drives in the eventual win. 5 RENFREE NAMED TO AFCA GOOD WORKS TEAM Renfree received one of the most prestigious off-thefi eld honors in college football this season when he was named to the AFCA Good Works Team. He is one of only 22 Division I football players to receive a spot on the team. Renfree s community service work includes the Duke Children s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Read with the Blue Devils, Durham Rescue Mission, the MLK Million Meals Event and Active Teens. RENFREE NAMED NFF SCHOLAR-ATHLETE Renfree received one of the most prestigious awards in college football this season when he was named a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete. He was one of 15 to receive the recognition. The award carries with it an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship and a trip to New York, N.Y., for the annual banquet. Renfree is now a candidate for the William V. Campbell Trophy, which recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholarathlete in the nation. Renfree is pursuing his master s degree in humanities. He owns a 3.81 grade point average in graduate school after posting a 3.40 GPA as an undergraduate. RENFREE UP FOR SENIOR CLASS AWARD Renfree is candidate for the Senior CLASS Award, an honor presented annually to the college football senior who excels in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition. Along with his on-fi eld accomplishments, Renfree boasts 3.81 GPA as a graduate student after maintaining a 3.40 GPA as an undergraduate. 6 RENFREE REACHES 8,000 PASSING YARDS Against North Carolina in week eight, Renfree became the fi fth quarterback in Duke history and the 20th in ACC history to reach 8,000 career passing yards. He currently ranks fourth at Duke with 8,477 passing yards. Renfree is the fi rst Duke QB to reach that mark since Thaddeus Lewis in Duke has the most 8,000-yard passers in ACC history with fi ve. He ranks among the ACC s top six in all three of those categories. Crowder has grabbed at least four receptions in nine of 11 games and has topped 80 receiving yards six times. He has a reception of 20 yards or more in eight of 11 games this season. With back-to-back 100-yard games in weeks one and two, Crowder became the third Duke player to open a season with back-to-back 100-yard receiving games. Crowder grabbed seven receptions for a career-high 167 yards against No. 10 Clemson in week nine. He scored on a 77-yard reception from Sean Renfree for Duke s longest play of the season. SCOTT MAKES THE SWITCH TO WR Senior Desmond Scott switched from RB to WR for his fi nal season as a Blue Devil. Through 11 games, the transition has been smooth with Scott amassing 57 receptions for 584 yards with averages of 5.2 receptions and 53.1 yards per game. Scott has been on the fi eld at WR for a total of 700 snaps, third among Duke s receivers behind Vernon (809) and Crowder (756). Scott tied the school single-season record for most games with 10+ receptions with three this season, posting double-digit receptions against Stanford (11), Wake Forest (11) and Georgia Tech (10). A native of Durham, N.C., Scott has played in 40 career games with 19 starts at RB and 11 at WR. He has rushed for 1,159 yards and six touchdowns on 262 attempts (4.42 ypc) while also catching 134 receptions for 1,132 yards (8.5 yards per reception). Scott has at least one reception in 37 consecutive games in which he has played and multiple receptions in 19 of those games. 100-YARD GAMES Vernon owns 12 career 100-yard receiving games and ranks second on Duke s all-time chart.
