BLUE DEVIL IMG SPORTS NETWORK A state-wide radio audience follows all the action of Duke football on The Blue Devil IMG Sports Network. The network provides in-depth pregame coverage, live play-by-play of all the action, and the post-game press conferences straight from the locker room to stations via satellite each game. The one-hour tailgate show is hosted by John Roth. Three-time Broadcaster of the Year Bob Harris, the voice of the Blue Devils for the past 36 seasons, calls all the action for Duke fans each game. He was inducted into the Stanly County (N.C.) Sports Hall of Fame in 1993 and the Sports Hall of Fame in Analyst Wes Chesson joins Harris in the booth each game and is in his 33rd season providing color commentary for Duke games. Chesson, an All-ACC receiver at Duke from , still holds fi ve school receiving records, hauling in 164 catches for 2,399 yards during his playing days. He went on to play with the NFL s Atlanta Falcons ( ) and Philadelphia Eagles ( ). In December of 2000, Harris and Chesson were selected to work the 64th annual Shrine Bowl Game of the Carolinas in Charlotte, N.C. 3 DUKE NOTES NUMBER 8 DECAL Duke dons an 8 decal on the back of its helmets to recognize sophomore WR Blair Holliday, who was injured in a watercraft accident on July 4. Holliday spent over one month at UNC Hospitals before being transferred to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Ga., where he stayed until being released on Friday, August 31. He continues to be a patient at the Shepherd Center. DUKE S HIGH-SCORING TEAMS Duke has scored 30 or more points 20 times during the David Cutcliffe Era, including in four of fi ve games this season. It is just the third Duke start of 4-1 or better in the past 30 years (4-1 in ; 5-0 in 1994; 4-1 in 1988). With home victories over FIU, N.C. Central and Memphis this season, the Blue Devils have also opened the year with three consecutive home wins for the fi rst time since 1994 (Maryland, East Carolina & Army). The 4-1 start gives David Cutcliffe his fi fth 4-1 start to a season in 11 years as a head coach (4-1 at Ole Miss in 1999, 2000, 2001 & 2002; 4-1 at Duke in ). 5 RENFREE REACHES 7,000-YARD PLATEAU Renfree became the fi fth QB in Duke history to surpass 7,000 yards this season, doing so on Sept. 15 versus N.C. Central. Renfree has thrown for 7,634 yards in 34 games (28 starts) and is the fastest Duke QB to reach 7,000 passing yards (32 games). Duke s last two 7,000-yard passers were both mentored by head coach David Cutcliffe (Thaddeus Lewis - 10,065 passing yards). Renfree needs just 366 more passing yards to reach career passing yards, a mark that only four Duke quarterbacks have reached in Duke s 100 seasons of football. RENFREE EARNS PRESEASON RECOGNITION Renfree entered the season as one of the top passers in the nation and earned recognition on both the Davey O Brien Award Watch List and the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Watch List. The O Brien Award is given annually to the top college quarterback in the nation. Renfree is one of 34 quarterbacks named to the list. Renfree is also a member of the AFCA Good Works Team (one of 11 nationally) and a candidate for the Lowe s Senior CLASS Award and the NFF Scholar-Athlete Award. RENFREE NAMED TO AFCA GOOD WORKS TEAM Renfree received one of the most prestigious off-thefi eld honors in college football this season when he was named to the AFCA Good Works Team. He is one of only 22 Division I football players to receive a spot on the team. Renfree s community service work includes the Duke Children s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Read with the Blue Devils, Durham Rescue Mission, the MLK Million Meals Event and Active Teens. RENFREE UP FOR SENIOR CLASS AWARD Renfree is candidate for the Senior CLASS Award, an honor presented annually to the college football senior who excels in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition. Along with his on-fi eld accomplishments, Renfree boasts GPA as a graduate student after maintaining a 3.39 GPA as an undergraduate. He is also a two-year team captain and heavily involved in the Duke community, as evidenced by his appointment to the AFCA Good Works Team. CAPABLE BACKUPS Duke has depth at the QB position with redshirt sophomore Anthony Boone backing up Renfree. Boone played in 10 games as a redshirt freshman and has appeared in every game of. Boone has completed 23-of-36 (.639) passes for 210 yards and one touchdown this season while also rushing for another score. Boone led Duke to a fourth-quarter win at Wake Forest in week fi ve, entering the game in the third quarter after starter Sean Renfree left with an injury. Boone engineered two touchdown drives, running in the go-ahead score on his own from four yards out. Boone also set career highs against Stanford in week two, completing 13-of-21 passes for 147 yards. Redshirt sophomore Brandon Connette is also available at QB in addition to his role as a WR and TE. Connette has played in 19 games with 14 rushing TDs, one passing TD, one receiving TD and 179 passing yards on 13 completions. DUKE FOOTBALL CONNETTE SCORES TOUCHDOWNS Redshirt sophomore QB Brandon Connette leads Duke in touchdown responsbility with seven scores and has been responsible for 16 career touchdowns in just 19 career games (14 rushing, one passing and one receiving). For his career, he averages a touchdown for every 7.57 rushing attempts and one touchdown every six quarters of football. Connette, who missed the fi nal 10 games of with a shoulder injury, has been responsible for seven touchdowns this season, with fi ve rushing TDs, one receiving TD and one passing TD. He has been responsible for two touchdowns in a game three times through Duke s fi rst fi ve games. Connette is the fi rst Blue Devil to rush for a touchdown, catch a scoring pass and throw a TD pass in the same season since D. The Charlotte, N.C., native is averaging a team-best 6.83 yards per attempt. A total of eight freshmen have led Duke in rushing yardage, including George Clark (1944), Tony Benjamin (1973), Stanley Broadie (1977), Letavious Wilks (1996), B.J. Hill (1998), Chris Douglas (2000), Jay Hollingsworth (2008) and Desmond Scott (2009). Hill holds the school rookie record for rushing yards in a season with 798 while Clark holds the Duke freshman standard for yards per attempt (minimum 75 carries) at 5.93 yards. SNEAD FINDING THE END ZONE Redshirt sophomore RB Josh Snead leads Duke s backfi eld in touchdown responsibility with three scores, scoring twice on the ground and once through the air. Against N.C. Central, Snead scored on an 18-yard reception and later ran for a fi ve-yard touchdown for his fi rst career multi-td game. The performance marked the fi rst time since 1999 (Scottie Montgomery) that a Blue Devil scored a rushing and receiving touchdown in the same game. Snead missed the entire season due to a leg injury. Prior to the injury, Snead played as a true freshman in 2010 and averaged 4.91 yards per rush with 221 rushing yards and one touchdown. MOORE ON RIMINGTON TROPHY WATCH LIST Redshirt senior center Brian Moore was named to the 51-member Rimington Trophy Watch List. A 6-2, 285-pound native of Coral Gables, Fla., Moore ranks tied for fourth among active ACC offensive linemen with 32 career starting assignments. Moore has played 2,295 snaps during his Duke career, which is the second most on Duke s roster behind only senior WR Conner Vernon (2,435). OFFENSIVE LINE PROVIDES PROTECTION Duke s offensive line has allowed one sack for every pass attempts this season. That ranks as the 12th best pass attempt-to-sacks allowed ratio in the nation and the second best in the ACC. Duke has allowed only four sacks this season despite a league-high 212 pass attempts.
