3 TEAM NOTES NUMBER 8 DECAL Duke dons an 8 decal on the back of its helmets to recognize sophomore WR Blair Holliday, who was injured in a watercraft accident on July 4. Holliday spent over one month at UNC Hospitals before being transferred to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Ga., where he stayed until being released on Friday, August 31. He continues to be a patient at the Shepherd Center. DUKE ON PACE FOR SCORING RECORD The Blue Devils average 31.9 points per game, which would rank as the third highest scoring average in school history. The Blue Devils have scored at least 30 points six times, already the third most 30-point games in school history. The 1988 and 1989 teams, coached by Steve Spurrier, posted seven 30-point games in back-to-back seasons. Duke has topped the 40-point mark three times in, tied for the fourth most in school history. Duke has scored 30 or more points 22 times during the David Cutcliffe Era, including in six of eight games this season. On September 30, 1989, Duke faced a 1-3 record and was given a one in a million chance of winning by head coach Steve Spurrier, but the Blue Devils rallied for a win over No. 7, for the fi rst of seven consecutive wins en route to the ACC title. He is among the ACC s top 10 in all three of those categories. Crowder has grabbed at least four receptions in eight of nine games and has topped 80 receiving yards fi ve times. He leads the team with four receptions of 50 yards or longer. With back-to-back 100-yard games in weeks one and two, Crowder became the third player in Duke history to open a season with back-to-back 100-yard receiving games. SCOTT MAKES THE SWITCH TO WR Senior Desmond Scott switched from RB to WR for his fi nal season as a Blue Devil. Through eight games, the transition has been smooth with Scott amassing 45 receptions for 453 yards with averages of 5.0 receptions and 50.3 yards per game. Scott had his top game at the position against Wake Forest, setting a career high with 134 receiving yards on a career-high matching 11 receptions. A native of Durham, N.C., Scott has played in 38 career games with 19 starts at RB and eight at WR. He has rushed for 1,159 yards and six touchdowns on 262 attempts (4.42 ypc) while also catching 122 receptions for 1,001 yards (8.2 yards per reception). Scott has at least one reception in 35 consecutive games in which he has played and multiple receptions in 17 of those games. SCOTT JOINS 1,000-1,000-1,000 CLUB Scott joined an elite club in week nine when he surpassed 1,000 receiving yards to become only the third player in ACC history to post at least 1,000 rushing, receiving and kickoff return yards. The senior wide receiver spent his fi rst three seasons at running back, but made the unselfi sh transition to wide receiver for his fi nal campaign. Scott is also just the 13th player in the ACC and fourth at Duke to post 1,000 or more rushing and receiving yards, joining former Blue Devils Roger Boone, Randy Cuthbert and Mike Grayson.
