OSU is third in the conference in opponent shooting percentage through four Big Ten games at.386. The Buckeyes had their second-best shooting performance of the season at Maryland (46.4 percent) which came into the game allowing vs. Record: 12-3 Conf: 2-2 Big Ten HC: Suzy Merchant its opponents to shoot 32.3 percent which was ninth in the country. MICHIGAN STATE Monday s game will be the 83rd meeting all-time between Michigan State and Ohio State. The Buckeyes lead the all-time series with the Spartans Michigan State has won the last three of the last four meetings in the series and fi ve of the last seven since The Buckeyes have a lead in games in East Lansing and a edge in games played in Columbus. The Buckeyes cruised to a stress free victory in the lone meeting last season. MCGUFF VS. MICHIGAN STATE Head coach Kevin McGuff is 4-6 lifetime against the Spartans. He split a home-and-home series with Michigan State in 2008 and 2009 when he coached at Xavier. Each team held serve on its home fl oor. He dropped both meetings with the Spartans in his fi rst go around with the Buckeyes in 2014 McGuff then won two straight, lost three in a row, but came out on top in the last meeting. LAST YEAR VS. MICHIGAN STATE The Buckeyes were 12-of-14 shooting (85.7 percent) in the fi nal quarter which took a two-point game and turned it into a stressfree victory over the Spartans. The win snapped not a three-game losing streak on the season but a three-game skid against Michigan State. Kelsey Mitchell entered the game just 18 points shy of Rachel Banham s all-time Big Ten scoring record of 3,093 points. Once she pickedup her fourth foul with 2:03 left in the third quarter, Mitchell had 15 points and it looked as if the record might hold for another game. But she hit back-to-back threes in a 17-second spurt to not only eclipse the mark but help the Buckeyes shove the lead out to 20 points with just over two minutes remaining. Mitchell fi nished with a game-high 23 points and also had four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Linnae Harper was 10-of-14 from the fl oor and fi nished with 22 points, 10 rebounds fi ve assists and a season-high tying fi ve steals. Stephanie Mavunga nearly matched her as she was 8-of-10 shooting for 20 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. OSU led by just one point at the end of one and used an Asia Doss three-pointer that beat the halftime buzzer to take a lead into the break. Mitchell scored fi ve-straight points to give the Buckeyes a lead, which was their largest lead of the game to that point, and force an MSU timeout midway through the third quarter. But the Spartans rebounded and cut the defi - cit to just three heading to the fourth quarter. MSU would get to as close as two points early in the fourth and that s when head coach Kevin McGuff reinserted Mitchell with her four fouls back into the lineup and the rest was history. 3

DIGGING OUT OF HOLES Certainly you don't want to be making a habit of falling behind by double digits but the Buckeyes have been able to overcome a pair of large defi cits this season. They came back from a 14-point hole in a victory over North Carolina on Nov. 29 and then bested Indiana on Jan. 10 after trailing by 12 points. This the fi rst time since the season in which the Buckeyes have overcome a pair of 12-point of greater defi cits in the same season. The 14-point comeback was the largest since the Buckeyes overcome a 16-point defi cit at Purdue on Jan. 15, REVERSING THE TREND = W The win on Jan. 10 over No. 25 Indiana snapped Ohio State's fi ve-game losing skid and it was thanks in large part to a big fourth quarter. The Buckeyes were competitive during the skid, leading going into the fourth quarter in three of the fi ve games. But they were outscored by an average of nearly 10 points (102-55) in those decisive quarters. Against Indiana, the Buckeyes reversed that trend and outscored the Hoosiers while shooting 75 percent. VALIANT EFFORT IN COLLEGE PARK The Buckeyes played one of their better games of the season on Jan. 5 in College Park but came up just short vs. the No. 4 Terrapins. OSU had its second-best shooting performance of the season, shooting 46.4 percent for the game. Freshman post Dorka Juhász notched her fi fth double-double of the year with team highs of 18 points and 10 rebounds. Fellow freshman Janai Crooms, who was making her second start, notched season-highs of 10 points, four assists and three blocks in 31 minutes. The Terrapins came into the game in the top-10 in the country in both rebounding and blocks per game. The Buckeyes held their own all game on the boards and it wasn't until a late dry spell shooting that the Terrapins were able to spread the rebounding margin out to nine, which was less than their 14.9 averaging entering the game. The Buckeyes also blocked fi ve shots while Maryland had just three which was three under its average. JUHÁSZ GETS HOT VS. THE HOKIES Freshman Dorka Juhász had struggled with her outside shot early in the season but she found the range vs. Virginia Tech on Dec. 21. Juhasz made all three of her three-point attempts and was 10-of-14 shooting overall to fi nish with a season-high 27 points. The Hungary native also made all four of her free throws to go along with eight rebounds and a season-high tying two assists. DEFENSIVE BATTLES Head coach Kevin McGuff runs a style of offense that doesn't usually yield low-scoring affairs. But the victory over Florida on Dec. 16 was just that. The 46 points were tied for the second-fewest in a victory for any McGuff coached team. His Xavier squad won against Saint Joseph's on Jan. 28, The 46 points were also the fourth-fewest in a victory in Ohio State history and the second-fewest in the NCAA era (since 1982). Ohio State beat Illinois on Jan. 17, DEFENSIVE WINS GAMES At the end of the day, the old adage of "Defensive Wins Championships" usually always proves accurate. While they certainly didn't win any championship, the Buckeyes played hard scrappy defense vs. Florida on Dec. 16 and it allowed them to overcome a tough shooting afternoon. Ohio State shot just 29.3 percent for the game. Since 1999, that was just the 13th game in which the Buckeyes shot under 30 percent. But thanks to its defense, which held Florida to 24.6 percent shooting for the game, Ohio State was able to come away with the victory. Since 1999, that was the first game in which OSU shot under 30 percent and still came away with the W. JUHÁSZ EARNS NATIONAL FOW HONORS Dorka Juhász picked-up not only Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors on Dec. 3 but national FOW accolades after leading the Buckeyes to a pair of victories. She averaged 17.5 points and 14.5 rebounds in wins over North Carolina and Cincinnati. The Pecs, Hungary native had 18 points and 16 rebounds vs. UNC and then notched gamehighs of 17 points and 13 rebounds vs. UC. Juhász is the fi rst Buckeye to earn the Big Ten's FOW honors since Tori McCoy on Dec. 12, 2016 and the fi rst to earn the national honor since Kelsey Mitchell in JUHÁSZ OFF TO A GOOD START Freshman Dorka Juhász started her career with double-doubles in four of her fi rst fi ve games. She is averaging team bests of 11.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. She has had games of 18-points and 16 rebounds vs. North Carolina and 27 points and eight rebounds vs. Virginia Tech. SNAPPING A LOSING SKID The Buckeyes had a big win over North Carolina on Nov. 29 and that win snapped a skid for the Buckeyes in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Ohio State had lost six-consecutive games in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge before the win over the Tar Heels. Overall, that was just the Buckeyes third win in the challenge as they are 3-9 in the 12 years of the event. 4

The Buckeyes shot just 30 percent through the fi rst three quarters but was 9-of-12 shooting and forced eight Indiana (14-2, 3-1) turnovers in the decisive fourth quarter. Graduate point guard Carmen Grande led the Buckeyes with 19 points, fi ve steals and three assists. She had two big steals at the onset of the fourth quarter that sparked the Buckeyes run. Freshman Janai Crooms had a second-consecutive solid game as she fi nished with a season-high 12 points and dished-out three assists. The Cranston, R.I. native had a pair of big buckets late in the fourth quarter, including a three-point play that put the Buckeyes up by six with 1:26 to play. Dorka Juhasz scored nine points and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds to go along with three steals. Makayla Waterman fi nished with six points and three blocked shots. Defensively, Ohio State forced Indiana into 19 turnovers and the Hoosiers shot a season-low 33.3 percent for the game. Point guard Ali Patberg came into the game averaging 18.0 points per contest and was limited to a season-low nine points on Thursday. Ohio State will work with both teams to try and reschedule the games sometime next season. This left a large gap between games for the Buckeyes who had 17 days between their third and fourth games of the season. GRANDE DISHES NO. 700 Graduate transfer Carmen Grande notched 700th career assist on Nov. 9, vs. Detroit Mercy. She has had 24 games of 10-plus assists in her career. Since 2005, Ohio State has had a player record 10 or more assists in a games just 24 times, matching Grande s total over her last three seasons. Her 755 total assists are more than any other active DI men s or women s player in the country. GRANDE ON LIEBERMAN PRESEASON WATCH LIST Point guard Carmen Grande was one of 20 players named to the Nancy Lieberman Preseason Watch List this season. Grande is the NCAA's active career assists leader with 755. LONG BREAKS The Buckeyes had two unusually long breaks during the fi rst two months of the season. The fi rst was supposed to be 11 days but with the cancellation of the west coast trip to play Sacramento State and Stanford, the Buckeyes had 17 days between their game at UConn and hosting North Carolina. That break came over Thanksgiving Weekend which allowed the Buckeyes to be without a game during Thanksgiving week for the fi rst time in 14 years. The second break occurred around fi nal exams and also came on the heels of a trip to the west coast. After playing Washington on Dec. 5, the Buckeyes didn't return to action until after exams on Dec. 16 against Florida. These breaks will hopefully come in handy for a new team looking to solidify itself heading into conference play. The B1G schedule was expanded from 16 to 18 games this season and the Buckeyes bye week doesn t come until the fi nal week of the regular season.

6 MCGUFF SIGNS A TOP 3 CLASS Head coach Kevin McGuff knew signing a strong 2019 class was going to be crucial and he and his staff hit a home run, signing a top-5 class according to multiple outlets. The Buckeyes inked four players who all received a fi ve-star rating according to ESPN HoopGurlz rankings as well as one of the top international prospects. Kierstan Bell (No. 6) and Jacy Sheldon (No. 41) were 1-2 in Ohio's Miss Basketball voting last season. Rikki Harris (No. 24) is a 5-9 guard from Indianapolis who may have been even higher in the rankings if her junior season wasn't cut short due to injury. Kaelynn Satterfi eld, a tall athletic win, led Christ the King to a No. 1 national ranking last season and a 29-1 record. Aixa Wone is a 6-2 forward from Barcelona, Spain. She was a top international prospects in the 2018 class but elected to play this season as an amateur for one of the top club teams in Barcelona and will join the Buckeyes for next season. MAGIC NUMBER 70 Head coach Kevin McGuff s style of fast paced offense leads to more possessions and hopefully more points. Since he took over at the start of the season, the Buckeyes are when scoring at least 80 points and when scoring at least 70 points. Year <70 pts >70 pts >80 pts >90pts Totals SHARING THE LOVE Under head coach Kevin McGuff, the Buckeyes have dished-out 20 or more assists in a game 31 times and are 30-1 in those games.
