LAST TIME OUT The Greyhounds hit the road for the start of their month-long road trip last week, traveling to The Buckeye State for a pair of in-region games against Tiffin and #5-ranked Ashland. Against the Dragons, UIndy withstood a 13-2 first quarter run from Tiffin and re-took the lead for good right before the half on their way to a win. In her first start of the year, senior Nicole Anderson, poured in 21 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds, leading the team in the latter category. Not to be outdone, junior Martha Burse notched her first career double-double with career highs in points (22) and rebounds (11). The Hounds dominated the Dragons on the glass, outrebounding Tiffin 42-22, the highest rebounding differential for the Hounds since Jan. 11, 2013 when they were plus-22 against William Jewell. Saturday against fifth-ranked Ashland, the Greyhounds battled back from a 9-0 deficit to start the game, eventually cutting the Eagle lead to just two midway through the second quarter. But a late first half run for the Eagles proved to be too much to overcome as the Eagles would go on to win, Sydney Brackemyre led the Greyhounds with a career-high 26 points on 10-for-16 shooting. ABOUT THE HILLTOPPERS Making the trip to the Caribbean from Austin, Texas, the Hilltoppers come into the week with a 1-4 record and will be looking to halt a four-game slide when they take on Kutztown on Thursday. St. Edward s is led by seniors Shakera Barnes and Khiani Clark, who are averaging 13.4 and 11.0 points per game, respectively. Barnes tops the squad in field goals made (29) and assists per game (6.6). Meanwhile, Clark is shooting a team-best 55.6 percent from the floor and leads the team with 8.2 rebounds per game. GREYHOUNDS AND HILLTOPPERS ALL-TIME Friday afternoon s game will be the first ever meeting between the Greyhounds and Hilltoppers. ABOUT THE LAKERS Grand Valley State heads into the week with a 2-1 mark and will face off with Lubbock Christian one day before taking on the Greyhounds. The Lakers are fresh off a season that saw them win the NCAA Midwest Regional and advance to the Division II Women s Final Four a year ago. Now in his second year at the helm of the Lakers, head coach Mike Williams team carries a balanced offensive attack that averages 79.3 points per game and a defense that surrenders just 55 per contest heading into the week. Bailey Cairnduff s 11 point per game leads the way for the Lakers while Taylor Parmley and Piper Tucker each check in with 10.0 points per contest. While no other players are averaging double figures, six other Lakers are averaging at least six points per game thus far. GREYHOUNDS AND LAKERS ALL-TIME Saturday s meeting will be the first between the two since Nov. 22, 2011, a Grand Valley win. The Lakers lead the all-time series, 7-4, with the two programs splitting the last four meetings.

5 GREYHOUND NOTES SUCCESSFUL STARTERS With their win over Tiffin, the Greyhounds their 13th 3-0 start in program history and the first since the campaign. First year head coach Kristin Drabyn is off to the best start of any new Greyhounds bench boss since LeAnn Freeland, who began her UIndy tenure with 11 straight wins back in AMONG THE LEAGUE S BEST Through just four games, the Greyhounds find themselves at or near the top of several team and individual GLVC league leader lists. UIndy currently ranks fourth in the league with 27 three pointers made and their defense has held opponents to just 25.3 percent from behind the arc, which is also good for fourth in the league. Additionally, the Hounds rank fifth in the league in field goal percentage, connecting on 42.2 percent of their shots. On the flip side, UIndy comes in seventh in the league in field goal defense, holding opponents to 36.7 percent from the floor. Brackemyre enters the week second in the league in points per game, averaging 20 through three appearances. The Louisville transfer also ranks fourth in field goal percentage (55.6%), tied for fourth in offensive rebounds per game (4.0) and fifth in rebounds per game (9.7). Sarah Costello has emerged as one of the top long range threats in the GLVC, leading the lead in three-point attempts with 33 and ranking second in threes per game with 3.0. Finally, Burse has emerged as the league s top playmaker through two weeks of regular season action, topping the GLVC in assists (28) and assists per game (6.3). INSIDE ATTACK Forwards Anderson and Brackemyre have caused problems for opposing defenses early on in the season. The two post players are shooting a combined 50.7 percent (35-for-69) from the floor and have dominated on the glass, grabbing 40 percent (66- of-155) of the team s rebounds. Both players have reached double figures in rebounds twice this year, with both of Anderson s coming this past week. DOUBLE THE FUN UIndy has four double-doubles from three different individuals so far. Brackemyre accounts for half of those, recording back-to-back double doubles on opening weekend in wins over Findlay (20 pts, 16 reb) and Walsh (14 pts, 10 reb). Anderson s double-double against Tiffin was the ninth of her career, moving her into a tie with Heidi Lawrence and Amanda Norris for ninth on the program s all-time list. Burse became the first UIndy guard since Costello back on Feb. 20, 2016 to record double-figures in points and rebounds. LENDING A HELPING HAND Through four games, the Greyhounds have done an excellent job sharing the basketball, with assists coming on 57 of the team s 95 field goals so far, good for a 60-percent clip. Burse leads all players with 25 helpers and nine Greyhounds have at least one assist on the young season. THE STREAK CONTINUES The Greyhounds enter play this week riding one of the longest streaks in the country, having knocked down at least one three-pointer in the last 291 contests dating back to Jan. 11, WBCA COACHES POLL (Nov. 22) Rk. 17 LAST TIME OUT - RECAP & BOX SCORE Hounds pull away from Tiffin late, improve to 3-0 on the year TIFFIN, Ohio Following a perfect homestand to open the year, the Greyhound women s basketball team hit the road for the first time, opening up a seven-game road stretch with an in-region showdown against the Tiffin Dragons. In her return to the starting lineup, senior Nicole Anderson made a huge contribution with 21 points and a team-leading 14 rebounds. Junior Martha Burse also went for a double-double, setting career highs in points (22) and rebounds (11) as UIndy moved to 3-0 on the year with a win over the Dragons. We battled tonight in our first road game, Head coach Kristin Drabyn told WICR after the game. You always have to be at your best when you re on the road and we were ready to go tonight. Getting Nicole back and having her presence in the paint is something we were excited to have back and she looked great coming off an injury. Our kids were great tonight facing their first road test of the year. For the third consecutive game, the Greyhounds came out swinging on the offensive end, opening the first four minutes of the game with a 10-0 run. With both Burse and Devin Ferguson in foul trouble, Tiffin countered with a 13-2 run to close out the remainder of the first quarter, taking a one-point lead into the second period. The lead flip-flopped six times in the second quarter, but a 9-2 run from the Greyhounds to close out the half gave them a lead at the break, a lead the Greyhounds wouldn t surrender the rest of the night. I was impressed with the way they responded after the end of the first quarter, Drabyn added. We had to be strategic with the way we deployed our kids after Martha and Devin got in foul trouble. To respond after letting go of an early double digit lead the way we did was huge and it was great to see our kids battle after Tiffin pushed back in the first quarter. UIndy held a multiple-possession lead for the bulk of the third quarter, but Tiffin cut the deficit down to a pair thanks to a Deidre McKay three-point play with 4:26 left in the frame made it It was as close as the hosts would come to evening things up as UIndy closed out the third on an 11-4 run to take a edge into the fourth. A jumper from Anderson with 6:16 to play extended the UIndy lead back to double figures. UIndy would hold a comfortable lead the rest of the way, improving to 5-0 alltime versus Tiffin in the process. One of the biggest areas of emphasis for the Hounds in the early going has been to win the rebounding battle and the Hounds dominated on the glass Wednesday night. UIndy finished the game with a advantage on the glass, limiting the Dragons to four offensive rebounds in the process. We ve been emphasizing getting after it on the glass every night, Drabyn continued. We knew we had to win the rebounding battle and having Nicole back on the floor made everyone want to get after it on the glass a little harder. But it all starts in practice and that s where we preach the importance of rebounding and full credit to our kids for getting after it. Khala Downing came off the bench to lead the Dragons with 12 points as Tiffin shot just 37.3 percent (22-for-59) from the floor and 22.2 percent (6-for-27) from long range. ####
