2 Jeff Williams Howard 87 5th Season Year Overall A TOTAL Atlantic 10 Tournament/Seed st Round/# nd Round/# nd Round/#7 Head Coach Jeff Williams Howard 87, Fifth Season Jeff Williams enters his fifth season at the helm of the La Salle women s basketball program in Williams squad turned heads, as the Explorers posted the most Atlantic 10 wins (9) since the season and earned a No. 7 seed in the Atlantic 10 Championship. His squad topped three of the league s top six seeds over the course of the regular season, including wins over all four A-10 teams that earned WNIT bids. Williams squad topped the Atlantic 10 in scoring defense, field goal percent defense and three-point field goal percent defense in league play. La Salle placed two players on Atlantic 10 postseason teams, including All-Conference Second Team pick Alicia Cropper and All-Rookie Team selection Micahya Owens. Cropper also earned Philadelphia Big 5 First Team honors. In Williams third year on 20th and Olney in , two players under his watch earned Philadelphia Big 5 honors. Brittany Wilson was a First Teamer and also the city s scoring champion, averaging 18.3 ppg, and Shanel Harrison earned Second Team honors. He brought the Explorers to back-to-back Atlantic 10 Tournament berths in 2011 and 2012, advancing to the second round in His squad went.500 in A-10 play, knocking off Xavier for the first time in eight years and then toppling the Musketeers again in the A-10 tournament. The Explorers put together a six-game win streak, the best since , and started league play 3-0 for the first time since Under his tutelage, Wilson picked up All-Big 5 First Team and Atlantic 10 Third Team honors and Jada Payne was named Atlantic 10 All- Rookie. In the first year of Williams tenure, the Explorers went 6-8 in the conference and qualified for the Atlantic 10 Tournament. Individual accomplishments included senior Ashley Gale being named to the Atlantic 10 Second Team and All-Defensive Team, while earning the league s Most Improved Player award, and also earned All-Big 5 First Team honors. Jess Koci earned Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team honors after being one of the league s top rebounders as a freshman. Williams spent the prior seven seasons at the University of Pittsburgh, including the last four as the Associate Head Coach. Williams helped guide the Panthers to postseason appearances in the past five seasons, including three straight NCAA Tournament trips with Sweet Sixteen showings in 2008 and He was formally introduced at a press conference on Wednesday, March 23, 2010 and became the program s eighth head coach. Williams also spent time as a women s basketball coach at Howard ( ), Georgia Tech ( ) and Pittsburgh ( ). He recruited or coached six players who reached the WNBA, including Pitt All-American Shavonte Zellous, who was named to the WNBA all-rookie team in Three of his recruiting classes have been ranked in the top 15 nationally and his teams have reached seven NCAA and three WNIT Tournaments. Under the tutelage of head coach Agnus Berenato, Williams helped Pittsburgh to unprecedented success during his seven-year tenure. Williams recruited and signed a pair of players--zellous and Philadelphia s Marcedes Walker (University City HS)--who would provide the most successful run in the program s history. Two years after a six-win first season, the staff led the Panthers to a then school-record 22 wins and WNIT appearance in In , the Panthers broke the school record for wins (24) and advanced to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history. The success rewarded Pittsburgh with its first national ranking in the Associated Press poll in nearly 20 years. Walker earned All-Region honors for the second straight year in , leading Pitt to its first NCAA Sweet Sixteen and tying the school record with 24 wins. The team also defeated a top 10 opponent for the first time in program history and captured four wins over top 15 teams that season. Walker, who Williams worked with directly when he coached the post players, became the second player in program history to accumulate over 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. One season later, the Panthers returned to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen and won 25 games, marking the fourth straight year the team had tied or broken the school record. Pitt was ranked #14 in the final AP ranking, its highest in program history. Zellous was named an AP All-American and was the school s first WNBA draft pick, going #11 overall to the Detroit Shock. Williams first worked with Berenato at Georgia Tech. There he helped lead the Yellow Jackets to their second-ever NCAA trip in 2003 after a WNIT appearance in He coached a pair of future WNBA players at Georgia Tech--Kasha Terry and Sonya Mallory. For two straight seasons, he helped bring in a nationally ranked recruiting class, including two Street & Smith s All-America honorees. Both classes were ranked in the top 15 nationally. He spent the five previous seasons at Howard, where he led the Bison to four league titles and three NCAA Tournament appearances as the associate head coach. His recruiting class was ranked #12 nationally. Williams recruited Andrea Gardner, who led the nation in rebounding in 2000, and coached the school s first two WNBA players - Gardner and Denique Graves, from Philadelphia s University City High School. Williams also has professional coaching experience, coaching the Atlanta Justice of the National Women s Basketball League (NWBL) in , leading the team to the league title. A 1987 graduate of Howard with a degree in therapeutic recreation, Williams also was an assistant coach for the men s teams at George Mason ( ) and South Carolina State ( ). Williams is married to the former Tamecia McCoy and has one daughter, Montana, and a son McCoy Zachary.

Reigning Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year Sydney Stipanovich recorded six blocks, one block shy of tying the opponent single-game record of seven set by Brittney Griner. Beth Brzozowski led the Quakers with 11 points in her collegiate debut, and Stipanovich and senior Kara Bonenberger added nine apiece. The Quakers look to be solid again this season as they tied with Princeton for first place in the Ivy League preseason poll. Penn captured the Ivy League title last season with a regular season finale win at Princeton to earn the league s automatic qualification to the NCAA Tournament. The squad is, however, without the services of reigning Ivy League Player of the Year and Penn second-all-time leading scorer Alyssa Baron for the first time in four years. Stipanovich and Bonenberger return to lead the offense after averaging 12.0 ppg and 10.9 ppg, respectively. Bonenberger was efficient last year, hitting 52.2 percent of her attempted shots. The duo also led the team in rebounding last year. Stipanovich averaged 8.3 boards per game and Bonenberger added 6.5 per game. Stipanovich also averaged 3.4 blocks per game, totaling 99 in her rookie season last year. She became just the fourth Penn player ever to surpass the 100-block mark when she rejected six in the first game of her sophomore season at Tennessee on Friday. Penn 64, La Salle 54 - Dec. 2, 2013 PHILADELPHIA Penn used an 11-2 run midway through the second half to pull away as the La Salle women s basketball squad dropped a decision in Big 5 play at Tom Gola Arena on Monday night. Rookie Micahya Owens was the lone Explorer in double figures with 16 points, while fellow rookie Jasmine Alston corralled a game-hightying eight rebounds while chipping in four points and a game-best four steals. Penn s Alyssa Baron led all scorers with 23 points and Kara Bonenberger added 10. The Quakers took the lead at 5-4 with 16:42 on the clock and never trailed, though the Explorers got within six before that decisive 11-2 run. The Explorers drop to 2-4 (0-2 Big 5), while Penn improves to 1-2 (1-0 Big 5). Tale of the Tape vs. Penn... Wilson drained a game-high 24 points and added 10 rebounds - seven on the offensive glass - for her third double-double of the season and second straight. Twenty of her 24 points came in the second half. Harrison added 10 points while crashing the boards for a game-best 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Michea Bryant also added a season-best 12 points on 4-for-8 shooting. Kara Bonenberger led Penn (1-3, 1-0 Big 5) with 16 points on 8-for-9 shooting from the floor, and Alyssa Baron added 15 behind seven made free throws. Renee Busch added 13 points off the bench thanks to a perfect 4-for-4 three-point effort. Leeza Burdgess drew first blood in the game with a putback off of an offensive rebound. She finished with four offensive boards and a total of seven. Penn s Meghan McCullough responded with a three before Khristin Lee put the Explorers back on top 4-3 with a jumper in the paint. That was the final lead the Explorers would have as a Baron layup sparked a 10-0 Quaker run over the next 3:36. The Explorers responded with a 6-0 spurt to get within three, but that was the closest the squad would get the rest of the way. The team was hampered by cold shooting, going just 30.7 percent (23-75) and 12.5 percent (3-24) from long range. Penn shot 41.9 percent (26-62) for the game. The Explorers outrebounded the Quakers and for the fifth time in six games forced their opponent into more turnovers. The Explorers forced Penn into 20 miscues, while committing 16. Penn jumped out to a six-point lead at the 13:39 mark, leading the Explorers (1-6, 0-1 Big 5) A Jess Koci layup cut it to four and Penn s Katy Allen responded with a layup to put the score at 14-8 at 12:25. A Bryant fastbreak layup at 9:54 sparked an 8-1 Explorer run to give La Salle its only lead of the first half, 16-15, with 7:19 to go before halftime. Busch then nailed one of her four triples to put Penn back on top. Bryant tied it up at with two free throws before Busch once again nailed a three to spark an 11-3 Quaker run to close the half. La Salle trailed at the half, only the second time all season the Explorers found themselves down after 20 minutes of play. La Salle chipped away at the Penn lead in the second half, eventually knotting things at thanks to a Wilson three pointer with 9:03 remaining. She then added a layup less than 30 seconds later to give La Salle a short-lived lead, until Baron put the Quakers ahead for good with a trey just 13 seconds later. The Explorers dominated the glass by a margin, 30 percent shooting hampered the squad including just 23.3 percent in the first half. The squad shot a better 36.7 percent in the second frame.
