(2-6) - 12/30-5 or 7 p.m. Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center (1,844) - De Pere, Wisconsin Tournament Overview: St. Norbert hosts the 11th Annual Nicolet National Bank Holiday Tournament at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center. The Green Knights are looking for their sixth Nicolet Bank Tournament title. Admission to the tournament is free. Broadcast: The games will be broadcast with video streaming at: Live stats are available at: The Series: St. Norbert and Blackburn have never met in men s basketball. This is Blackburn s first appearance in the Nicolet National Bank Holiday Tournament. UW-Whitewater leads St. Norbert 11-4 in a series begun during the season. This is Whitewater s third appearance in the Nicolet National Bank Holiday Tournament (2007 and 2012). St. Norbert leads Finlandia 1-0 in a series begun in the season. This is the Lions second appearance in the Nicolet National Bank Holiday Tournament (2016). Last Meetings: UW-Whitewater topped St. Norbert on Nov. 26, 2013 at Schuldes Sports Center in De Pere. The Warhawks shot 69.6 percent (16-for-23) from the floor in the second half to pull away. Steven Hofacker led St. Norbert with 17 points, while Brandon Gries added 16 points and 11 rebounds. K.J. Evans led the Warhawks with 25 points and 13 rebounds. St. Norbert defeated Finlandia on Dec. 29, 2016 at Phoenix Sports Center in Green Bay in the Nicolet National Bank Holiday Tournament. Connor Curtis and Taylor Penn had 13 points apiece to lead the Green Knights. Geoff Smart had 21 points for Finlandia. The Coaches: St. Norbert coach Gary Grzesk (UW-Green Bay, 1996) is in his 12th season in De Pere. About the Green Knights: St. Norbert enters the tournament 8-1 overall. The Green Knights defeated North Central (Minn.) on Dec. 19 in De Pere. Senior guard D.J. DeValk leads the Green Knights offensively with 18.1 points per game. Senior forward Mitchell Reinthaler is averaging 15.7 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. Junior guard Taylor Penn is netting 8.2 points per game, while sophomore forward Joe Lemon is totaling 7.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. The Lions have been idle since Dec. 16 when they lost at Rochester (Mich.). Junior forward Brandon Robinette leads the Lions in scoring at 12.8 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. Junior guard Ricky Watson is averaging 10.3 points per game, while freshman guard Tristan Johnston is netting 9.1 points per game. Finlandia is averaging 64.1 points per game while shooting 40.9 percent from the floor, 34.1 percent on 3-pointers and 66.7 percent at the free-throw line. Opponents are scoring an average of 79.1 points per game while shooting 45.6 percent from the floor, 39.1 percent on 3-pointers and 66.2 percent at the free-throw line. Tourney Talk: Since the inception of the Nicolet National Bank Holiday Tournament in 2007, it has featured several exciting moments as well as the expectation of the unexpected. In the 11 years of the tournament, a team ranked in the D3hoops.com Top 25 has participated 10 years. However, only three in the first 10 years has a ranked team won the tournament. 3 2013 title contest. No. 7 St. Norbert defeated UW-Platteville in St. Norbert has two championship-game wins over nationally ranked foes. The Green Knights stunned No. 1 UW-Platteville in the 2008 title game and also clipped No. 6 UW-Whitewater in the 2012 championship. Thousand Talk: St. Norbert senior guard D.J. DeValk poured in a career-high 30 points against Cornell on Dec. 9 to move into 17th place on St. Norbert s career scoring list. DeValk currently has 1,175 points to move past David Wipperfurth. Wipperfurth had 1,146 points from 2008 to Gary Herold is 16th on the list, with 1,222 points from 1956 to DeValk, who reached 1,000 career points late in his junior season, joined Andrew Schwoerer (1,439, ), Joe Emmerich (1,811, ) and Lee Schroeder (1,308, ) as the only St. Norbert players to reach that mark during their junior year since Building a Winner: St. Norbert has won the Midwest Conference title the last five years and seven times in the last eight seasons. The Green Knights are the first team to win at least four consecutive MWC men s basketball titles since Beloit won six straight from The Green Knights have won 20 games six times in the last eight years under Gary Grzesk. In the program s previous 86 seasons, St. Norbert had 20-win seasons just twice. St. Norbert s 25 wins in 2014 and 2016 is the school record. The Green Knights won 24 games in 2015, 23 games in 2010 and 21 games twice (1984 and 2002). St. Norbert won 20 games in 2011 and St. Norbert s record from 2013 to 2016 marks the best fouryear total in school history.
