3 Caches Jhn Crdes Assistant Cach address: Cach Crdes was raised in New Yrk, New Jersey, Rhde Island and Cnnecticut. During his high schl years, he played lacrsse at Prvidence Cuntry Day in Rhde Island. After graduating frm high schl in Cnnecticut, he attended the University f Virginia and then the UNC Schl f Dentistry. Dr. Crdes has experience caching yuth, middle schl, and high schl lacrsse. He cached Rival Lacrsse fr several years befre jining the Culbreth staff as an assistant cach in In 2012, he assumed the helm as Head Cach f the Culbreth Middle Schl team. Crdes began wrking with the Jaguars in 2013 and enters his third seasn at CHS in Dr. Crdes maintains a private dental practice in Apex, NC and lives in Chapel Hill with his wife, Linda Crdes, and their tw children, William and Caitlyn. Jsh Ohaus Assistant Cach address: jsh@haus.net Cach Ohaus is a native f Charltte, Nrth Carlina, and a 2012 graduate f Prvidence Day Schl in Charltte. At Prvidence Day, he was a three-year varsity letterman in lacrsse, serving as a team captain and earning All- State and All-America hnrs in his senir year. He is currently a junir at UNC-Chapel Hill, where he als serves as a c-captain f the UNC Men s Club Lacrsse Team. Cach Ohaus has experience caching yuth and middle schl lacrsse in the Charltte area thrugh the StickWithUs Lumberjack Fall Lacrsse Academy and Cl Kids Fall Lacrsse Camp marks Cach Ohaus first seasn at CHS. Jhn C. Williams Assistant Cach address: jcwill24@live.unc.edu Cach Williams was brn and raised in Charltte, Nrth Carlina, where he attended Charltte Cuntry Day Schl. He is a graduate f Wdberry Frest Schl in Virginia where he was a multi-sprt athlete, playing lacrsse, ftball, and basketball. He earned varsity letters, in bth lacrsse and ftball, during his junir and senir seasns. During his senir seasn, he helped Wdberry lacrsse finish 3rd in the state in the pwerhuse Virginia private schl Divisin I. Williams has experience caching multiple middle schl and summer lacrsse prgrams, such as SPYA and Cl Kids Summer Camp. Cach Mitchell has experience caching lacrsse at the middle schl, high schl, and cllege levels, hlds a US Lacrsse caching certificatin, and is a prpnent f the Psitive Caching Alliance. He has been caching in the Chapel Hill/Carrbr Schl district since 2010, fllwing a 25 year career with IBM, and enters his third seasn as head cach f the Jaguars in He lives in Chapel Hill with his wife, Terri Mitchell, and their tw children, Kevin and Anna. 6 Dangers f playing Lacrsse Lacrsse is a cntact sprt and injuries can ccur: Cncussin a traumatic injury t the brain. Players are evaluated fr signs f cncussin and player is immediately remved frm play, trainer is cntacted. Uncnscius player Team Emergency Actin Plan is invked. Sudden cardiac death Athlete dies due t underlying heart prblem r external factrs such as heat strke, viral illness, drug use, blunt trauma t the chest frm a stick, fist, r ball. Caches are trained in CPR and AED use. The schl has AEDs in clse prximity t playing fields. Team Emergency Actin Plan is invked. Asthma - can be triggered by exercise, respiratry infectin, extreme heat / humidity r cld /dry, allergens. Athletes with asthma shuld always have an inhaler available at practice and games. Heat illness There are a variety f disrders, mild t severe, caused by expsure t high temperatures. Caches are aware that hydratin is essential, but that underlying cnditins can be a factr. Caches allw time fr players t acclimate t high heat ver time. Player exhibiting symptms is remved t cl area and athletic trainer is engaged. Neck injury Can be caused by player making cntact spearing with the head. Players are trained nt t lead with the head. Caches suspicius f spine injury will keep player still and cntact athletic trainer fr evaluatin and further actin. Skin infectins Typically minr but resistant staph infectins can ccur. Spread by skin-t-skin cntact, sharing pads and equipment, twels, and wrkut gear. Players shuld shwer sn after practices and games. D nt share equipment and ther items listed. Parents/Players shuld wash pads and athletic clthing regularly. 5

7 Sprtsmanship fr Players Hnr the game by having deep R.O.O.T.S. ROOTS is an acrnym that stands fr respect fr Rules, Oppnents, Officials, Team, and Self. Rules Play within the rules f the game bth the letter f the rule and the intent f the rule. Value an hnest effrt t win the game. Oppnents A wrthy ppnent is a gift and can bring ut the best in us. The level f cmpetitin is the highest against a wrthy ppnent. Be fierce and friendly. Officials They are guides t fairness in the game. Shw them respect even when they are wrng. There is never an excuse fr treating fficials with disrespect. Hnr the game by always respecting the fficials. Teammates Accept that yu are part f smething larger than yurself and shw respect fr each ther and the team. Teammates shuld celebrate accmplishments with each ther. Never embarrass r criticize yur teammates. Self Always d the right thing. Hld yurself t a higher standard and yu will gain self-respect. Remember that yur standards belng t yu. Individuals with self-respect will always give their best effrt and will always want t hnr the game. Respect yurself. Sprtsmanship fr Spectatrs Recgnize & acknwledge great plays frm the ppnents Respect decisins made by cntest and schl fficials Refrain frm taunting, bing, heckling and the use f inapprpriate language. Respect the Athletes, Caches, Officials and Fans Travel Guidelines The team travels t and frm games n a CHCCS Activity Bus. Players are required t ride t the game n the bus. Fllwing the game, players must ride back t CHS n the bus unless a Transprtatin in a Privately Owned Vehicle Permissin Frm has been cmpleted, signed (by parent/guardian) and handed t the cach. 6

9 Varsity Award fr Bys Lacrsse (Varsity Letter) T be awarded a varsity letter in lacrsse, the student-athlete: 1. Must nt have been ejected frm any lacrsse games. 2. Must nt have missed any games due t nn-schl club activities, recreatinal, etc. 3. Must have n unexcused absences frm practice. 4. Must nt have been suspended frm schl during lacrsse seasn. 5. If student-athlete was enrlled in MLPR prcess, all required weekly reprts must be turned in t cach. 6. All schl wned lacrsse equipment, helmets, unifrms, etc. must have been returned t cach at the end f the seasn. 7. Must have played in at least 50% f all regular seasn varsity games. Upperclassmen that have been in the lacrsse prgram (JV r V) fr the previus 2 seasns are exempt frm this requirement 8. Head cach has final discretin. NOTE: The varsity award is a prerequisite fr all ther awards. Playing Time Varsity Lacrsse is highly cmpetitive. We are nt an equal playing time fr all rganizatin. We play t win and players are awarded playing time based n ability/skill level, physical cnditin, wrk ethic, attendance recrd, sprtsmanship, and leadership. The amunt f playing time an athlete receives is at the discretin f the caching staff. We will make every attempt t get as many players n the field during games as pssible, keeping in mind that ur gal is t win ur games. Nte that pr wrk ethic, pr attendance recrd, r pr sprtsmanship will verride ability/skill level. Excused absences d nt affect a player s status n the team, i.e. there wuld be n lss f varsity letter and n make-up lacrsse wrk, hwever playing time may be affected. Fr example, if a player misses the tw practices befre a game fr academic reasns, it is very unlikely that he will play in that game. In situatins when the utcme f the game is clearly evident, we will take the pprtunity t get mre f ur players n the field. We will never attempt t run-up the scre n an ppnent and we wuld hpe that nne f ur ppnents wuld run-up the scre n us. With 5 minutes remaining, we will try t get ur substitutes n the field in these situatins. 8

10 Game Schedule Bys varsity lacrsse games cnsist f fur 12 minute perids. With time-uts, breaks at the end f 1 st and 3 rd quarters, half-time, and fficial s whistles a game will typically last between 1.5 and 2 hurs.
