3 Coach Legette-Jack: A two-time gold medal winning coach as a member of USA Basketball's staff, Felisha Legette-Jack is entering her fourth season as head coach of the Hofstra University Women's Basketball program. Under her direction, the Pride have been making positive strides and the team's 27 victories the past two seasons are the most in consecutive years since the and season (39 victories). In her three seasons, Legette- Jack has coached the Pride to a record and has had five all-conference, five academic all-conference and two All- Metropolitan New York players in her short tenure. Legette-Jack, the 10th head women's basketball coach in Hofstra history, coached the Pride to a mark in and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Colonial Athletic Association Championship for the third straight year. The team made noticeable gains on the offensive end of the floor, ranking second in the CAA in scoring offense (65.5) and three-point field goal percentage (.322), and first in three-pointers made (5.76 per game). The team also led the league in defensive rebounding (26.86 per game) and was second in offensive rebounding (15.69) and overall rebounding (42.6 per game). The summer of 2005 also saw Legette-Jack serve a second stint as an assistant coach with USA Basketball, as a member of Gail Goestenkors' (Duke) staff for the 2005 FIBA Women's U19 World Championships squad that posted a perfect 8-0 mark en route to a gold medal at the World Championship in Tunis, Tunisia. In she guided her team to a record and a second place tie in the conference standings after being picked seventh in the preseason poll. Legette- Jack coached her squad to a school-record 11 conference victories, including a win over Old Dominion that many consider the biggest win in school history. Hofstra's regular season mark was just the fourth winning regular season since the team became a Division I program in Legette-Jack was rewarded for her efforts by being named Colonial Athletic Association Coach of the Year was an exciting and successful year for Legette-Jack in other ways as well. During the summer of 2003, Legette-Jack served as an assistant coach for Team USA at the 2003 FIBA World Championship for Young Women in Sibenik, Croatia, and helped coach the team to a gold medal. Then in March 2004 she was named to the Big East Conference Silver Anniversary Women's Basketball Team, one of just 15 players selected. In her first campaign as head coach, Legette-Jack guided the Pride to an 8-21 record and a first round win in the Colonial Athletic Association Championship, which was the Pride's first tournament win in five years. Legette-Jack brought a wealth of collegiate coaching experience to Hofstra. She spent 11 seasons as a Division I assistant coach, with nine years in the Big East Conference at Syracuse University and Boston College, and two seasons in the Big Ten Conference at Michigan State University. Legette-Jack came to Hofstra after serving for two seasons as an assistant coach at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. In the Spartans went 10-18, but followed that up with one of the top turnarounds in the NCAA in , going and advancing to the Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) semifinals. It was the fifth most wins in school history and included three victories over nationally ranked programs. While at Michigan State, Legette-Jack served as the recruiting coordinator and was responsible for signing the 14th-ranked recruiting class in the country for the season. Three of those recruits were residents of the state of Michigan and were ranked in the top 61 in the nation. In addition, Legette-Jack supervised the student-athletes' academic progress, and helped organize and direct Michigan State's preseason and postseason conditioning program. Prior to her two seasons at Michigan State, Legette-Jack spent seven seasons as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Syracuse University. Legette-Jack was the recruiting coordinator at Syracuse and helped bring in two Gatorade Players of the Year. She was also in charge of organizing all team travel arrangements and coordinating the tape exchange program, while also taking care of the Orangewomen's conditioning schedule. During her tenure at Syracuse, her squads maintained a 100-percent graduation rate. Following graduation, Legette-Jack was the head girls basketball coach at Westhill High School in Syracuse, New York. She compiled a record in two seasons there and had five players earn scholarships to Division I basketball programs. She then spent two years as an assistant coach at Boston College, where she oversaw the academic progress of a team with a 100-percent graduation rate, before moving on to Syracuse. The second leading scorer and all-time leading rebounder in Syracuse history, Legette-Jack is a 1989 graduate with a dual major in child and family studies, and psychology. Legette-Jack scored 1,526 points and pulled down 927 rebounds during her career as an Orangewoman. Legette-Jack was a three-time All-Big East selection, earned Kodak All-American honorable mention accolades twice and was named the 1985 Big East Conference Rookie of the Year. She has also been named to three different Halls of Fame: Greater Syracuse Hall of Fame, Syracuse Urban League Hall of Fame and the Syracuse University Orange Plus Hall of Fame.
