The Joe Scott Show: The Joe Scott Show returns for its eighth season each Monday from 6-7 p.m. MT on 1550AM & FM Brad Thompson hosts the show, which is broadcast from The Pioneer restaurant, located just south of the DU campus. DU on ROOT SPORTS: The Pioneers will make seven appearances on ROOT SPORTS, six home games and one road game. Vic Lombardi (play-by-play) and Greg Lackey (color) will call all the home action. Interviews During The Week: All interview requests must be arranged through Ali Majdeteimouri in the Denver Media Relations Office. Please contact Majdeteimouri to arrange interviews during the week. Majdeteimouri can be reached via (ali. office phone ( ) or cell phone ( ). Practice is open, but arrangements must be made in advance if you are planning on shooting B-roll footage. Postgame Interviews: Postgame interviews will be conducted at a designated site following a 10-minute cooling-off period. Denver head coach Joe Scott and selected players will be available for interviews. Media requests for both Denver and opposing coaches and players should be made to the DU men s basketball SID. Opponent requests will be forwarded to the visiting SID. The DU men s basketball locker room is closed to the media. Camera Procedures: Photographers must work within the designated areas. Photographers may shoot from the right side of each end line of Magness Arena. Requests to photograph from any other location must be made in advance to the University of Denver Athletic Media Relations Department. The University of Denver reserves the right to accept or reject credential requests. Radio: All radio stations wishing to broadcast from Magness Arena should contact the University of Denver Athletic Media Relations Office at least one week prior to the event. Space will be provided for the official radio station of the visiting team; others will be accommodated as space permits. Phone lines must be arranged for all stations in advance. Directions to DU: Take I-25 to the South University Boulevard exit. Proceed south to the first stop light (Buchtel Boulevard). Go through the Buchtel Boulevard intersection to the next block south (Jewell Avenue). Take a right on Jewell and proceed west approximately one-half block to the east entrance to the Ritchie Center. Ranked Opponents: Wednesday s game against Northern Iowa will be Denver s first ever against a ranked opponent at Magness Arena. The last time the Pioneers faced a ranked opponent it fell at No. 18 California on Nov. 26, Overall, DU is against ranked opponents with the last win coming in a victory at No. 19 Utah State on Feb. 15, Preseason Honors: Senior guard Brett Olson was selected as the Preseason Summit League Player of the Year in a vote by the league coaches, media and SIDs. Booming Brett: Brett Olson is averaging 11.0 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.6 assists while playing 35.1 minutes a game during the season. Reaching the Summit: The Pioneers begin their second season in the Summit League in , the team s third conference since returning to Division 1. Denver was a member of the WAC in after enjoying 13 years in the Sun Belt Conference. Griffin Grabbing: Senior guard Cam Griffin is averaging 13.4 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists on the season. Griffin got off to a well-rounded start in the season opener dropping 13 points, grabbing nine rebounds and had four steals. He backed that game up by scoring a career-high 19 points, grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out five assists. Griffin led the Pioneers in rebounding during the season averaging 5.8 rebounds a game. Nifty Nate: Junior guard Nate Engesser set a career high on Nov. 26 at Belmont scoring 26 points and knocking down a career high seven 3-pointers. The seven 3-pointers were the most by a Pioneer since Feb. 26, 2009 when Brian Stafford hit seven at Louisiana Monroe. Engesser is averaging 10.2 points a game in 18.3 minutes of action on the season. Engesser made his first start of the season on Dec. 2, 2014 at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Passing the Ruck: Junior Bryant Rucker standing at 6-feet tall and being the shortest member of the DU team was able to move his way into the starting lineup last season as a sophomore and has started every game during the season. Rucker is averaging 6.0 points and 2.4 assists a game. He also set a career high with five assists at Belmont on Nov. 26, Byrd s Eye View: Redshirt junior Marcus Byrd is averaging 8.3 points on 53.5 percent (23-of-43) shooting from the field and 47.6 percent (10-of-21) from behind the arc in 25.4 minues a game this season. Byrd ranked in the top 5 in The Summit League during the season in 3-point percentage (41.7, 5th) and 3-point FG s made per game (1.8, 5th). Everyone Needs a Little Love: Junior Jalen Love is averaging 5.3 points 2.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists a game in seven starts this season. Milestone Watch: Brett Olson: 1127 career points 263 career rebounds 278 career assists 104 career steals 212 three-pointers made 101 career games (all starts) Cam Griffin: 558 career points 341 career rebounds 104 career steals 81 career games (39 starts) A Little Help from Their Friends: Denver has 118 assists on 158 made field goals this season through seven games. DU is currently ranked 23rd in assists, averaging 16.9 per game. The Pioneers had assists on 65.5 percent (466-of-711) of their field goals during the , the second-highest mark in the nation, according to KenPom.com. Brett Olson is the leading returner for the Pioneers with 108 assists during the season. In Joe Scott s first seven seasons at DU, the Pioneers recorded an assist on 66.3 percent of their field goals (3,102 assists on 4,678 field goals made), ranking among the top six highest percentages in the nation every year. To a Point: The Pioneers eclipsed the 80-point mark for the first time this season when they beat Coppin State on Nov. 23. DU s game against Belmont on Dec. 17, 2013 marked the first time a Joe Scott-coached team scored 90 points. In his 15th season, Scott is now 18-0 when his team (Air Force, Princeton, Denver) scores at least 80 points. Magness Magic: The Pioneers are (.821) at Magness Arena under head coach Joe Scott, including a 51-8 (.864) mark in conference games (Sun Belt/WAC/Summit). In February 2012, ESPN.com s Ken Pomeroy wrote that Magness Arena was one of the top two home-court advantages in the nation. Nine Point Half: The Crimson and Gold held Idaho State to nine points (4-for- 22) in the second half of their game on Nov. 16, The nine points were the lowest since Denver held New Orleans to 10 points in the first half on Feb. 20, 2010 a game played that was played in New Orleans, La. Mid-Major Ranking: Three of DU s non-conference opponents are currently in the Top 7 (No. 3 Nothern Iowa, No. 5 Belmont and No. 7 St. Mary s). Conference Rankings: The Pioneers among Summit League teams in ranked first in assist/turnover ratio (1.5 a game), 3-point field goals made (8.2 a game), second in steals (7.0 a game), 3-point field goal percentage (.387), scoring defense (64.5) and third in blocks (3.3). Moving Up the Charts: Brett Olson moved into sole possession of fifth place on the all-time Denver career 3-point FGs made list against Idaho State on November 16, Olson currently sits at 212 made 3-pointers in his career. Olson is also on pace to move into the top of the all-time games played list at the University of Denver. Olson has played and started all 101 games in his career. Road Show: Denver will open the season with five of its first nine games on the road. All five road games will be played against teams that participated in a 2014 post-season tournament. 20-Win Seasons: The Pioneers posted back-to-back 22 win seasons in and The 22 wins are the most since returning to Division I play with the season culminating with a share of the WAC Regular Season Title. Fresh Faces: The Pioneers welcome four freshmen to this year s team. Centers Daniel Amigo and Christian Mackey and guards Jake Pemberton and Cam Delaney. Duke Douglas returns after redshirting as freshmen. Debuts: Freshmen Daniel Amigo made his colleigiate debut against Idaho State on November 16, 2014, starting for the Pioneers. Redshirt freshman Duke Douglas and true freshman Jake Pemberton also made their debuts playing four minutes apiece. Freshman Cam Delaney made his collegiate debut on the road at St. Mary s on Nov. 23, Freshman Christian Mackey played in his first game on Nov. 23 against Coppin State. Fab Five: Freshman Daniel Amigo scored 10 points in his first collegiate road game on November 20, 2014 at St. Mary s and backed that up with a 12-point game against Coppin State on Nov. 23, Freshman Jake Pemberton and redshirt freshman Duke Douglas both scored their first points as Pioneers at St. Mary s (Pemberton 8 and Douglas 6), while freshman Christian Mackey recorded his first two points against Coppin State and made his first career start on November 26, 2014 at Belmont.
