Saturday s contest is Senior Day for the Midshipmen and Navy s 32 seniors will be honored in a pregame ceremony. The Mids are ranked #22 in the Associated Press Poll and #23 in the Amway Coaches Poll. It is the first time since the end of the 2004 season that Navy has been ranked. Navy s 7-1 record is the Mids best start under head coach Ken Niumatalolo and its best start overall since 2004 when Navy opened the year 7-1 en route to a 10-2 record that included victories over Air Force and Army to win the Commander- In-Chief s Trophy and a victory over New Mexico in the Emerald Bowl. The Mids have not started 8-1 since 1963 when eventual Heisman Trophy winner Roger Staubach led Navy to wins in nine of its first 10 games. Dating back to last year, Navy has won 13 of its last 15 games with the only two losses coming to Notre Dame in Landover, Md. in 2014 and at Notre Dame in Navy has won eight straight games at home and 17 of the last 20 contests at the friendly confines of Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Senior quarterback Keenan Reynolds has scored 77 career touchdowns (all rushing), which is tied for the most in NCAA history among all players for rushing touchdowns with Montee Ball of Wisconsin. His 77 career touchdowns are the fourth most in NCAA FBS history for career total touchdowns (rushing and receiving). He is one behind second-place Travis Prentice (Miami of Ohio), four behind Kenneth Dixon of Louisiana Tech (active) and six behind record-holder Montee Ball (Wisconsin). His 3,977 career rushing yards are the second most in school history, trailing record-holder Napoleon McCallum by 202 yards. The two teams will also be playing for the Frank Gansz Trophy, created in 2009 in memory of Frank Gansz, who played at Navy from and was an assistant coach at both Navy and SMU. Gansz died in April of 2009 from complications following knee replacement surgery. Navy has won all three meetings since the Gansz Trophy was awarded. Saturday s game will be televised nationally by CBS Sports Network with John Sadak, Randy Cross and Sheehan Stanwick- Burch on the call. Navy Knocks Off 15th-Ranked Memphis Senior fullback Chris Swain ran for 108 yards and three touchdowns and the Midshipmen upset No. 15 Memphis, 45-20, snapping the Tigers winning streak at 15 games. Navy ended the Tigers perfect season, dropped them from the top of the West Division and jeopardized their No. 15 ranking and 13th spot in the College Football Playoff poll. The Midshipmen beat a top 15 team for the first time since Nov. 17, 1984, against then-no. 2 South Carolina, and accomplished the feat on the road for the first time since Sept. 21, 1974, against then-no. 8 Penn State. Senior slot back DeBrandon Sanders ran for 82 yards and Navy s triple-option rushing attack had 374 yards against a Memphis defense that had only allowed yards a game. But it was a 75-yard scoring pass from senior quarterback Keenan Reynolds to Sanders with 6:43 left in the third quarter that gave the Midshipmen the lead for good at The pass came on the first play from scrimmage after Memphis tied it at 17. Memphis Paxton Lynch was 26 of 42 for 305 yards, but threw an interception, just his second of the season, and one of three Tigers turnovers on the night. Navy held Memphis, which entered the game averaging 47.9 points and 560 yards of offense, to 438 yards. In addition to Swain s scores and Sanders scoring reception, Calvin Cass Jr. scored on an 8-yard run in the fourth quarter and Demond Brown added a 1-yard touchdown run to close the scoring. Reynolds, tied with former Wisconsin star Montee Ball for the most career rushing touchdowns in NCAA history at 77, did not score. Reynolds gave Navy the lead early in the third quarter by crossing up the defense that was concentrating on the run with the long pass to Sanders. That came after Memphis had a 15-play drive, capped by a 1-yard run by Anthony Miller that tied it at 17. The game s first two possessions played according to script with Memphis striking first and quickly through the air, covering 85 yards in just four plays, the final 11 on a pass from Lynch to Miller. The Mids answered with a 9-minute drive over 75 yards, all on the ground. Swain scored from 3 yards. Swain scored on a 2-yard run in the second quarter, and Austin Grebe s 44-yard field goal closed out the half with Navy leading Lynch was 15 of 25 for 198 yards in the half, but Navy linebacker Daniel Gonzales picked off a pass to set up Grebe s field goal as time expired in the half. Swain and Barta Earn AAC Honors Navy senior fullback Chris Swain and junior punter Alex Barta have been named the AAC Offensive Player of the Week and Special Teams Player of the Week, respectively, following their performances against #15 Memphis. Swain rushed for 108 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries to help lead Navy to a win against then- No. 15/15 Memphis, snapping the Tigers winning streak at 15 games and keeping the Midshipmen unbeaten in American Athletic Conference play. Swain s first touchdown of the game tied the score at 7-7 in the first quarter, while his 2-yard score in the second period gave the Midshipmen a lead. He added a key insurance touchdown on a 40-yard run in the third quarter to put Navy ahead, Barta averaged 45.2 yards on four punts, including one kick that was downed at the Memphis 4-yard line and another downed inside the 1. Barta has averaged 42.0 yards per punt for the Midshipmen this season. 13 Wins In The Last 15 Games The Mids enter Saturday s game against SMU having won 13 of their last 15 games. The only two losses in that stretch was a loss to Notre Dame at FEDEXFIELD in Landover, Md. in 2014 and a loss to Notre Dame in South Bend in Home Field Advantage Navy has won eight straight home games dating back to last year. The Mids are 32-9 (.780) at home under head coach Ken Niumatalolo, including 17-3 (.850) over the last four seasons. Gm 9 Navy vs. SMU: 3 Senior Day Navy will honor its 32 seniors in a pregame ceremony. The senior class has compiled a (.681) record, won two Commander-In-Chief s Trophies with an opportunity to win a third on Dec. 12 against Army West Point and has won two bowl games with a chance to win a third this year. This group of seniors could go down as the winningest senior class in school history. The record for most wins by a senior class is 35 set by the classes of 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and The Mids have at least five more games remaining, six if they reach the American Athletic Conference Championship Game. The seniors will also have a chance to be the first class in school history to win three bowl games. Navy s 32 seniors include: Quincy Adams (San Antonio, Texas), A.K. Akpunku (Arlington, Texas), Will Anthony (Jacksonville, Fla.), Lorentez Barbour (Louisville, Ky.), Kwazel Bertrand (Antioch, Tenn.), E.K. Binns (Cape Coral, Fla.), Demond Brown (Glen Burnie, Md.), Quentin Ezell (Walkersville, Md.), Joey Gaston (Knoxville, Tenn.), Tyler Goble (Plymouth, Mich.), David Gordeuk (Port Matilda, Pa.), Austin Grebe (Stafford, Va.), Brandon Greene (Highland, Calif.), Zach Hester (Lancaster, Ky.), Will Huntsman (Salt Lake City, Utah), Gavin Jernigan (Lawndale, Calif.), Myer Krah (Durham, N.C.), Zach Laniewski (Englewood, Fla.), Nick Martinez (Elm Mott, Texas), Marc Meier (Chesapeake, Va.), Don Pearson (Las Vegas, Nev.), Kikau Pescaia (Honolulu, Hawai i), Sean Reaver (Thurmont, Md.), Keenan Reynolds (Antioch, Tenn.), Blaze Ryder (Kaneohe, Hawai i), DeBrandon Sanders (Itta Bena, Miss.), Bernard Sarra (Monessen, Pa.), Nick Sloan (San Diego, Calif.), Chris Swain (Macon, Ga.), Ben Tamburello (Hoover, Ala.), Shelley White (Annapolis, Md.) and Thomas Wilson (Brandenburg, Ky.). Scouting SMU SMU, despite its 1-8 record, is a threatening foe due to its potent offensive attack. SMU gave a ranked Temple squad everything it wanted last week before falling in the fourth quarter, Quarterback Matt Davis is a dangerous dual threat quarterback leading the Mustangs in both rushing (552 yards and eight touchdowns on 144 carries) and passing ( for 1,946 yards with 15 touchdowns and five interceptions). Davis is 17th in the country in fewest interceptions and is 19th in the country in points responsible for per game (15.6). Running back Xavier Jones has rushed for 478 yards and seven touchdowns on 117 carries and is second on the team in receiving with 22 catches for 149 yards. Davis favorite target is Courtland Sutton, who has hauled in 40 catches for 748 yards and nine touchdowns. Sutton s nine touchdown catches are the ninth most in the country. Defensively, SMU is led by Darrion Richardson (50 tackles, two tackles for a loss and an interception) and Justin Lawler (49 tackles, eight tackles for a loss and five sacks). Kicker Chad Hedlund is 8-10 on field goals, while punter Josh Williams is averaging 40.6 yards per punt. SMU has been a disciplined squad this year, ranking 16th in fewest penalties per game (4.78) and 19th in fewest penalty yards per game (41.78). Niumatalolo Spells Success Navy football coach Ken Niumatalolo has been on the the Mids sideline as either an assistant or head coach for 18 of the last 21 years ( and as an assistant, 2008-current as the head coach). Over those 18 years, Navy has compiled a record (.606), won nine Commander-In-Chief s Trophies, gone to 12 bowl games and won six bowl games. Navy is in Service Academy games over that stretch (.714). In the 117 seasons without Niumatalolo, Navy has compiled a record of (.549), won five Commander-In-Chief s Trophies (in 26 years), gone to eight bowl games and won three bowl games. Navy is (.460) in Service Academy games without Niumatalolo on the sideline.

Whether it s the added military training, mandatory room or uniform inspections or the academic schedule, Service Academy student-athletes are in a league of their own. The Naval Academy s academic day is divided into six 50-minute class periods beginning at 7:55 am and concluding at 3:20 pm. Unique to the Academies, all 4,400 Midshipmen reside on the Yard in Bancroft Hall and dine together in King Hall. 10 10: 2015 NAVY FOOTBALL Game NOTES The American Announces Football Schedule format Commissioner Mike Aresco has announced the schedule format for the American Athletic Conference football seasons. The 2015 season will be The American s first in its new 12-team, two-division format, in which each team will play eight conference games. Each team will face the other five teams in its own division as well as three teams from the other division. The format ensures each school will play every conference opponent at home and on the road at least once in the four-year cycle. The American s East Division includes UCF, Cincinnati, UConn, East Carolina, USF and Temple. The West Division lineup is Houston, Memphis, Navy, SMU, Tulane and Tulsa. The two divisional champions will meet in The American Championship at the home site of one of the participants. The East and West division winners, determined by final conference record, will meet in the first American Athletic Conference Football Championship Game, which will be played at the home site of one of the division winners. The American Athletic Conference has enjoyed widespread success since its inaugural season in The conference produced two 12-win teams in 2013, including UCF, which won the Fiesta Bowl, and saw UCF, Cincinnati and Memphis tie for the conference title in Five American Athletic Conference teams UCF, Cincinnati, East Carolina, Houston and Memphis played in bowls in 2014 postseason, as did Navy who joins The American this fall AAC FOOTBALL SCHEDULE FORMAT Home: UConn, Houston, Memphis, Tulsa Away: East Carolina, USF, SMU, Tulane Do Not Play: UCF, Cincinnati, Temple 2017 AAC FOOTBALL SCHEDULE FORMAT Home: UCF, Cincinnati, SMU, Tulane Away: Houston, Memphis, Temple, Tulsa Do Not Play: UConn, East Carolina 2018 AAC FOOTBALL SCHEDULE FORMAT Home: Houston, Memphis, Temple, Tulsa Away: UCF, Cincinnati, SMU, Tulane Do Not Play: UConn, East Carolina, USF American Athletic Conference Announces Details Of First Championship Game Commissioner Mike Aresco has announced that the first American Athletic Conference Football Championship will be played Saturday, Dec. 5, at noon ET and will be televised nationally on either ABC or ESPN. The divisional champions will be the teams from each division with the highest winning percentage in all conference games -- both divisional and non-divisional. In the event of a tie within a division, the head-to-head result between the tied teams will determine the divisional champion. The site of the American Athletic Conference Football Championship will be the home venue of the divisional champion with the best record in conference games. If the two divisional champions have the same conference record, then the regular-season head-to-head winner between the divisional champions would host the championship. If the divisional champions have the same conference record and did not play in the regular season, then the team with the better overall regularseason record would host the championship. The winner of the American Athletic Conference Football Championship will have the opportunity to participate in one of the College Football Playoff New Year s Bowls if it is the highest-ranked team among the champions of Conference USA, the Mid-American Conference, the Mountain West Conference and the Sun Belt Conference. The student-athletes selected for this honor have made a positive impact on others and their communities. In its 24th year, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team is comprised of athletes who have used their limited free time to perform inspirational acts of service. This summer, the program received a record 197 nominations from colleges and universities across the country for just 22 spots on the team (11 FBS, 11 Non-FBS). Krah and current James Madison quarterback Vad Lee, Durham Hillside teammates and long-time friends, shared a heartfelt desire to pay back their community for a high school experience they say launched their promising futures. They discussed their idea with Hillside head coach Antonio King and came up with the All In Reunion and All In Scholarship.. The first All In Scholarship Krah and Lee presented was in 2013 for $500 with funds raised on their own from family and friends. Quianti Cherry used the scholarship to attend Elizabeth State University in Elizabeth City, N.C. In 2014, they doubled their funds to $1,000 with a bump from a gofundme.com account. DeAndre Harper, the recipient, used it as a freshman at Winston Salem State this past school year. For 2015, they raised $2,000 and split it into two scholarships one each for Keith Beasley to attend North Carolina and Gerald Wilkes Jr. to attend Campbell. College football fans can vote for the 2015 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team Captain at ESPN.com/Allstate through November 25, The Team Captain and his fellow award recipients will be invited to New Orleans to participate in a community project before the 2016 Allstate Sugar Bowl.
