Navy last won five straight games at the end of the 2013 season. This is the first time the Mids have played a team from the Patriot League, a league that Navy is a member of for most of its sports, since beating Colgate in Saturday s game will be televised nationally by CBS Sports Network with John Sadak, Randy Cross and Sheehan Stanwick- Burch on the call. The Navy Football Tailgate Show on WNAV 1430 AM / 99.9 FM will air at 10:00 am. The Navy Football Pregame Show with Pete Medhurst, Omar Nelson and Joe Miller will get underway at 11:00 am, followed by game action beginning at 12 noon on the Navy Radio Network. Game Day Festivities Pregame festivities will get underway at approximately 9:45 am with the Navy Football Team Walk. Originating at the Blue Angel in the southwest corner of the stadium, the team will make its way down the sidewalk and through NavyFest before walking up the drive to the stadium. Dan Haug and his team from the National Capitol Squadron based out of Culpepper Regional Airport near Brandy Station, Va. will perform Saturday s fly-over. They will be performing the fly-over with one Grumman TBM-3 AVENGER and two North American SNJ-5 TEXANs. The TBM-3 was a torpedo bomber and was flown by former President George H. W. Bush during WWII. The SNJ-5 was a Navy advanced training aircraft. Following the game, Navy s alma mater, Navy Blue & Gold, will be played as the team stands at attention in front of the Brigade of Midshipmen. It is one of the best traditions in college sports. Scouting Colgate Quarterback Jake Melville is the straw that stirs the drink for the Raiders. Colgate was 5-2 when Melville played last fall and 0-5 when he didn t. Melville threw for 1,028 yards and six touchdowns and ran for 435 yards and four scores last season as a sophomore despite playing in only seven games. John Wilkins and Demetrius Russell combined to run for 1,124 yards and 11 touchdowns, while the four players who caught 20 or more passes a year ago all return to the lineup including tight end John Quazza who is a Preseason All-Patriot League pick. John Weber made the preseason all-league team on the offensive line, where Jordi Dalmau also returns.. The Raiders were vastly improved on defense last year, but to keep it up they will have to replace three of the team s top four tacklers as defensive back Mike Armiento and linebackers Kris Kent and Vinny Russo have all graduated. Kyle Diener is a Preseason All-Patriot League pick at linebacker after leading Colgate with 89 stops last year with four sacks and three interceptions. Victor Steffen is a Preseason All-Patriot League honoree on the defensive line after making 56 tackles and 11.5 tackles for loss last year, while Chris Morgan (71 tackles, 2 INT) and Adam Bridgeforth (60 tackles, 2 INT) return in the defensive backfield with Pat Afriyie (33 tackles, 4.5 sacks) joining Diener at linebacker. Colgate might have the best special teams squad in the Patriot League with proven performers in all three areas. Jonah Bowman (14-16 FG) is back at kicker as a Preseason All-Patriot League pick, Nikko Armiento (39.6 avg) returns as the punter and John Maddaluna III (23.0 KR avg) was an all-league return specialist last season. Navy returns 11 starters (four on offense, six on defense and one specialist) and 46 lettermen (23 on offense, 21 on defense and two specialists) off last year s team that went 8-5, beat Army for a record 13th consecutive year and won a bowl game in consecutive years for just the second time in school history. One of the 11 starters returning for Navy is record-setting quarterback and co-captain Keenan Reynolds, who enters his senior campaign with 64 rushing touchdowns which is tied with Anthony Thompson (Indiana, ) and Cedric Benson (Texas, ) for the fourth most in NCAA history. The NCAA record is 77 set by Montee Ball (Wisconsin, ). Gm 1 Navy vs. Colgate: 3 Reynolds, Sarra Named 2015 Team Captains Senior quarterback Keenan Reynolds and senior nose guard Bernard Sarra will serve as team captains for the 2015 football season Navy head football coach Ken Niumatalolo announced at the annual Navy football banquet last January. Being elected team captain at the Naval Academy is one of the highest honors you can receive at an institution that prides itself on producing great leaders, said Niumatalolo. Keenan and Bernie are not only great football players, but they are great leaders on the field, in Bancroft Hall and in the classroom. There is no question in my mind that they will do a great job in this very important role. They both work extremely hard and will set an example for the entire team on and off the field. Reynolds will go down as one of the greatest players in program history as he enters his senior year having rushed for 3,186 yards and 64 touchdowns, while throwing for 1,798 yards and 23 touchdowns. His 3,186 career rushing yards are the third most in school history and 994 yards shy of passing record holder Napoleon McCallum. He also ranks 17th in NCAA history for rushing yards by a quarterback and needs 1,310 yards to pass Michigan s Denard Robinson to become the all-time leader. His 64 rushing touchdowns are the most in school history, the most in NCAA history by a quarterback and tied for the fourth most in NCAA history by any player. He needs 14 more to pass record holder Montee Ball of Wisconsin. His 23 touchdown passes are tied for the fourth most in school history and seven shy of passing former Commandant of Midshipmen and school record holder Adm. Bill Byrne. Sarra has been a force in the middle for the Mids, starting 22 games over his career. He has recorded 68 career tackles, including a career-high 38 in Sarra blocked a nation s-best (tied) three field goals last year. Navy Wins Back-to-Back Bowl Games For The Second Time In School History Austin Grebe kicked the go-ahead, 24-yard field goal with 1 minute, 27 seconds left to lead the Midshipmen to a victory over San Diego State in the 2014 San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl. The win was the Mids fourth straight and sixth in the final seven games. The win also gave Navy consecutive bowl wins for just the second time in school history. Navy won the contest after the Aztecs Donny Hageman was wide right on a 34-yard field goal attempt with 20 seconds left in the game. The Mids winning drive was set up when Chris Johnson forced and recovered a fumble by Donnel Pumphrey. Fullback Chris Swain converted on a fourth-and-1 and Ryan Williams-Jenkins took a pitch and ran 28 yards to help set up the game-winner by Grebe. San Diego State then got to the Navy 17 before Hageman missed. Hageman earlier made field goals of 43, 37 and 30 yards. His third field goal gave SDSU a lead late in the third quarter. Pumphrey gained 112 yards on 21 carries to set SDSU s single-season rushing record with 1,867 yards. The old record was 1,842 yards by George Jones in Navy lost four fumbles in the contest, while SDSU had three turnovers. Quarterback Keenan Reynolds ran for two touchdowns, extending his own NCAA record for scores by a quarterback to 64. He scored on a 1-yard keeper for the game s first score and then somersaulted into the end zone at the end of a 6-yard run to give Navy a lead midway through the third quarter. Leading 16-14, SDSU went for it on fourth-and-5 from the Navy 12 but Quinn Kaehler s pass to Mikah Holder was incomplete. Navy punted on its next possession but got the ball back after Pumphrey fumbled. The Midshipmen rushed for 254 yards, led by Swain with 72 yards on eight carries. Navy improved to 2-2 in the Poinsettia Bowl. It avenged a loss to SDSU here in Reynolds was named the game s offensive MVP, while linebacker Jordan Drake, who tied his career-high with 13 tackles, was named the game s defensive MVP.

5 In The Classroom The rigors a student-athlete faces at a Service Academy are unlike those a typical student-athlete might encounter on a day-to-day basis. Whether it s the added military training, mandatory room or uniform inspections or the academic schedule, Service Academy student-athletes are in a league of their own. The Naval Academy s academic day is divided into six 50-minute class periods beginning at 7:55 am and concluding at 3:20 pm. Unique to the Academies, all 4,400 Midshipmen reside on the Yard in Bancroft Hall and dine together in King Hall. He is 5-1 (.833) in Service Academy games (one of his four service academy wins was off the bench in a relief role and is not figured into his record as a starter). His 64 career touchdowns are the most in NCAA history by a quarterback and the most by any player in school history. The 64 career rushing touchdowns are tied for the fourth most in NCAA history among all players with Anthony Thompson of Indiana and Cedric Benson of Texas. He is eight behind Ricky Williams of Texas for third, nine behind Travis Prentice of Miami of Ohio for second and 13 behind Wisconsin s Montee Ball for first. His 64 career touchdowns are the ninth most in NCAA history for career total touchdowns. He trails Anthony Thompson (Indiana) and DeMarco Murray (Oklahoma) by one touchdown for seventh. The record was set by Montee Ball of Wisconsin, who scored 83 in his career. He scored 31 rushing touchdowns in 2013, which are the most by a quarterback in NCAA history in a single season and the most by a Navy player (any position) in school history. He is just the fourth player in NCAA history to rush for 30 or more touchdowns in a season and just the seventh player in NCAA history to score 30 or more touchdowns in a season. Reynolds had at least one rushing touchdown in a school-record 14 consecutive games before the streak was snapped by Notre Dame (11/1/14). Despite missing two games in 2014 due to injury, his 23 rushing touchdowns were the fifth most in the country and the most by a quarterback. The 23 touchdowns were also the third most in school history for a single season and tied for the fourth most in NCAA history by a quarterback. Reynolds averaged 12.5 points per game in 2014, the third-best scoring average in the country. Reynolds has led Navy to six fourth-quarter (or overtime) game-winning drives in his career (Air Force, Indiana and Army in 2012; Pitt and San Jose State in 2013 and San Diego State in 2014), which is tied with Braxton Miller of Ohio State for the most in the country among active players. His 3,186 career rushing yards are the third most in school history. He trails second-place Chris McCoy by 215 yards. His 3,186 career rushing yards are the 17th most in NCAA history among QBs. He trails 16th-place Freddie Solomon by 113 yards and Army s Trent Steelman by 134 yards for 14th. His 1,346 rushing yards in 2013 were the 14th most by a quarterback in NCAA history and rank third at Navy for a season, trailing Napoleon McCallum and Chris McCoy. His 2,403 yards of total offense in 2013 (1,346 rushing, 1,057 passing) rank fourth all-time at Navy for a season. His 300 rushing attempts in 2013 rank as the third most in school history behind Napoleon McCallum (331 in 1983) and Ricky Dobbs (315 in 2009), while his 428 total offensive plays also stand third all-time behind Jim Kubiak in 1994 (462) and 1993 (450). His 712 career rushing attempts rank second all-time at Navy. He is 197 career carries behind Napoleon McCallum for first on the list. His seven rushing touchdowns in 2013 against San Jose State set an NCAA record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback and tied an NCAA record for most touchdowns scored against an FBS opponent by a player playing any position. Reynolds also set a school record for most points scored in a game and most touchdowns scored. He scored three or more touchdowns in seven games in 2013 which was one game shy of the NCAA record set by Barry Sanders in 1988 and equalled by Kapri Bibbs of Colorado State last year. He has scored three or more touchdowns an NCAArecord 12 times in his career (did it twice as a freshma, seven times as a sophomore and three times as a junior). He scored a school-record 188 points in The record had previously been set by Bill Ingram in 1917 with 174. The 188 points were the fourth most in NCAA Gm 1 Navy vs. Colgate: 5 history by a player at any position. His 386 career points are the most by a quarterback in NCAA history. His 386 career points are the ninth most in NCAA history among all non-kickers. He trails eighth-place DeMarco Murray of Oklahoma by four points and seventh-place Anthony Thompson of Indiana for seventh place. Reynolds was responsible for a school-record 236 points in 2013 (31 rushing TDs, 8 passing TDs, 1 twopoint conversion). The previous record was 198 set by Ricky Dobbs in He was responsible for 174 points in 2014 (23 rushing TDs, 6 passing TDs), which is tied for the fourth most in school history. He has been responsible for a school-record 524 points over his career (64 rushing TDs, 23 passing TDs, one two-point conversion). He has the first, fourth, fifth and sixth-most rushing yards by a quarterback in a game in school history, rushing for 277 yards vs. Georgia Southern in 2014, 251 yards against San Jose State in 2014, 240 yards against San Jose State in 2013 and 226 against Hawai i in He and Chris McCoy are the only two players to rush for more than 200 yards in a game twice in the same season in two different years. His 14 career 100-yard rushing games are tied with Ohio State s Braxton Miller for the most among active quarterbacks. He is just the third player in school history to have at least four 200-yard rushing days in a career, joining McCoy (five) and McCallum (four). His four 200-yard games are tied for the fourth most in the country among active players. Melvin Gordon of Wisconsin has seven, while Ameer Abdullah of Nebraska and Tevin Coleman of Indiana had five. Reynolds and James Connor of Pitt have four. Reynolds rushed for 1,260 yards and threw for 1,038 yards in 2013 to become only the fourth quarterback in school history to rush AND pass for 1,000 yards in a season. The other players to accomplish this feat are Ricky Dobbs (2009), Craig Candeto (2003) and Chris McCoy (1997). He has thrown just seven interceptions in 347 attempts for his career for an interception percentage of.020, which is the best in program history. He is averaging 8.0 passing yards per attempt for his career (2,788 yds on 347 att.), which is the fifth-best average in school history. Reynolds is tied with Jim Kubiak for fourth in school history for career touchdown passes with 23. He trails third-place John Cartwright by two, second-place Bob Leszczynski by three and former Commandant of Midshipmen Bill Byrne by six for first. In 2012, he became the first Navy quarterback to win his first four career starts since senior Bob Powers, who won his first six career starts in He became the first freshman to start at quarterback for Navy since Jim Kubiak started five games in 1991, when he guided the Midshipmen to a victory over Central Michigan. He was just the third freshman in program history to start at quarterback, joining Kubiak and Alton Grizzard, who started seven games at quarterback in 1987.

8 8: 2015 NAVY FOOTBALL Game NOTES The American Announces Football Schedule format Commissioner Mike Aresco has announced the schedule format for the American Athletic Conference football seasons. The 2015 season will be The American s first in its new 12-team, two-division format, in which each team will play eight conference games. Each team will face the other five teams in its own division as well as three teams from the other division. The format ensures each school will play every conference opponent at home and on the road at least once in the four-year cycle. The American s East Division includes UCF, Cincinnati, UConn, East Carolina, USF and Temple. The West Division lineup is Houston, Memphis, Navy, SMU, Tulane and Tulsa. The two divisional champions will meet in The American Championship at the home site of one of the participants. The East and West division winners, determined by final conference record, will meet in the first American Athletic Conference Football Championship Game, which will be played at the home site of one of the division winners. The American Athletic Conference has enjoyed widespread success since its inaugural season in The conference produced two 12-win teams in 2013, including UCF, which won the Fiesta Bowl, and saw UCF, Cincinnati and Memphis tie for the conference title in Five American Athletic Conference teams UCF, Cincinnati, East Carolina, Houston and Memphis played in bowls in 2014 postseason, as did Navy who joins The American this fall AAC FOOTBALL SCHEDULE FORMAT Home: UConn, Houston, Memphis, Tulsa Away: East Carolina, USF, SMU, Tulane Do Not Play: UCF, Cincinnati, Temple 2017 AAC FOOTBALL SCHEDULE FORMAT Home: UCF, Cincinnati, SMU, Tulane Away: Houston, Memphis, Temple, Tulsa Do Not Play: UConn, East Carolina 2018 AAC FOOTBALL SCHEDULE FORMAT Home: Houston, Memphis, Temple, Tulsa Away: UCF, Cincinnati, SMU, Tulane Do Not Play: UConn, East Carolina, USF American Athletic Conference Announces Details Of First Championship Game Commissioner Mike Aresco has announced that the first American Athletic Conference Football Championship will be played Saturday, Dec. 5, at noon ET and will be televised nationally on either ABC or ESPN. The divisional champions will be the teams from each division with the highest winning percentage in all conference games -- both divisional and non-divisional. In the event of a tie within a division, the head-to-head result between the tied teams will determine the divisional champion. The site of the American Athletic Conference Football Championship will be the home venue of the divisional champion with the best record in conference games. If the two divisional champions have the same conference record, then the regular-season head-to-head winner between the divisional champions would host the championship. If the divisional champions have the same conference record and did not play in the regular season, then the team with the better overall regularseason record would host the championship. The winner of the American Athletic Conference Football Championship will have the opportunity to participate in one of the College Football Playoff New Year s Bowls if it is the highest-ranked team among the champions of Conference USA, the Mid-American Conference, the Mountain West Conference and the Sun Belt Conference.
