3 THE LAST TIME VS. IPFW Coastal Carolina 49, IPFW 60 Nov. 25, 2006 Muncie, Ind. Ball State Federal Credit Union Thanksgiving Tournament MUNCIE, Ind. - The Coastal Carolina University women s basketball team (2-1) shot 25 percent from the field and could not overcome an early double-digit deficit in falling to IPFW (3-1) Nov. 25 in the first round of the Ball State Federal Credit Union Thanksgiving Tournament in Muncie, Ind. IPFW came right out and made layups on its first two possessions, forcing the Lady Chanticleers to call an early timeout. The Mastodons made it 9-2 at 17:09 on a jumper from Nan Moore and at 13:52, it became 14-4 on a layup from Tina Moen. A three from freshman Lacey Lyons (Beverly Hills, Fla./ Crystal River) at 13:38 cut the lead to 15-7, but a 6-0 IPFW run was capped by a jumper from Johnna Lewis-Carlisle at 12:19. The deficit was as close at at 7:48 when junior C.J. Ware (Decatur, Ga./Lakeside) hit a three pointer. Moore came right back and made a three and a Moen jumper put it at at 5:23. Coastal scored the last three points of the half and went to the lockerroom down Ware led CCU with seven first-half points, with senior Calisha Yates (Columbus, Ind./Chattanooga State C.C.) grabbing six rebounds. Coastal shot just 23.3 percent in the first half and went 2-for-9 from three-point range. Lewis-Carlisle and Moore had seven points apiece in the first 20 minutes. IPFW came out strong in the second half, building the lead to 15 points on a Lewis-Carlisle three at 14:33. After a three-pointer by Ashley Johnson made it at 8:24, Coastal went on a 5-0 run which was capped by two free throws from senior Alisha Dill (Johnson City, Tenn./Science Hill). Coastal cut the lead to six at with two Dill free throws at 4:50 and had offensive possessions with the six-point deficit, but could not score. Layups by Juliane Hohne and Suzanne Edwards got the lead back to double digits and Coastal would get no closer than eight points the rest of the way. Dill led Coastal with 16 points, but was 3-of-27 from the field. Dill was 10-of-11 from the free-throw line. Ware had 11 points, a career high, and four rebounds and Yates scored seven points and collected six rebounds. IPFW was led by Lewis-Carlisle with 16 points. Johnson had 14 points, while Edwards grabbed eight rebounds. The two teams had 42 rebounds apiece and 22 of those for the Lady Chants were offensive. 4 Last Time Out... Coastal Carolina 79, Southern Virginia 46 Nov. 20, 2012 Conway, S.C. The HTC Center CONWAY, S.C. - For the second consecutive game, guard Angelica Henry came off the bench to provide the spark that led to an easy win for the Coastal Carolina women s basketball team. Henry, a 5-foot-5 junior from Indianapolis, Ind., scored a career-high 18 points to lead the Chanticleers to a win over Southern Virginia Tuesday at The HTC Center. Shatia Cole scored 10 of her 14 points in the second half and AJ Jordan, the team s leading scorer, added 10 points and career high 12 assists. Jordan s double-double was the first in her 33-game career. Savanah Pippin led the squad with eight rebounds. Mina Romito had 12 points to lead Southern Virginia. It was the fourth straight win for the Chanticleers, who matched a season-high with 79 points. The only loss on the season was in the opener against the College of Charleston. Henry came off the bench and provided the spark to get things started for the Chanticleers. She poured in 10 points in the first half as the Coastal bench contributed 16 points toward the team s halftime lead. Henry, who averaged just five points a game in her first two seasons, also hit the only 3-pointer for either team in the half in the midst of Coastal s 18-3 run after Southern Virginia had held an early 6-3 advantage. Freshman forward DJ Hunter chipped in with four points and four rebounds in the half. And the starting front line of Savanah Pippin and Alexx Puckett combined for 11 rebounds. Shannon Romito came off the bench to lead the Knights with six points in the first half. Turnovers were still a concern for Coastal (20), but its defense was solid in holding Southern Virginia to just 7-26 shooting (27 percent) in the opening period. After the break, Coastal squashed any comeback hopes the Knights might have had with a 16-4 run that lifted Coastal to a lead with 12:30 remaining in the game. Henry had four points and two assists in the run and Jordan contributed four of her 12 assists during the run. Individual/Team Stats Coastal CATEGORY Southern Virginia Henry (18) Points M. The Chants have won four straight games, all inside The HTC Center, by an average of 22.8 points. Eight Chanticleers have set or tied career-highs in the points category this season. Coastal s guard trio of Shatia Cole, AJ Jordan and Angelica Henry each average more than 11 points per game. Coastal Carolina looks to win its first game in the state of Indiana since defeating Howard at the Ball State Credit Union Thanksgiving Tournament on Nov. 26, Since the victory the Chants have lost at Butler during the season and dropped a pair of games at the 2010 Evansville-hosted Heritage Federal Credit Union Aces Classic. FAST BREAKS ON THIS DATE Coastal Carolina holds a 3-3 record in games played on Nov. 24. The Chants first played on Nov. 24, 1991 and were defeated by Presbyterian College in each squads season-opener. Coastal fell in its last game played on Nov. 24 against Alaska-Anchorage in the 2009 Great Alaskan Shootout. Coastal is1-2 on the road on Nov. 21, claiming its victory at Campbell in WHICH GUARD TO GUARD Through the first five games of the season the Chanticleers have relied heavily on its experience at the guard position. And guards Shatia Cole, AJ Jordan and Angelica have not disappointed. Jordan leads Coastal in scoring averaging 13.0 per outing followed by Cole s 12.6 and Henry s 11.8 points per game. In addition, Henry leads the Chants on the glass, averaging 6.6 board per contest. 4 IN 7 Coastal will play its fourth game in the last seven days against IPFW. The Chants started its grueling week long stretch with a win over Western Carolina on Saturday, Nov. 17 and followed with back-to-back blowouts victories against Columbia (SC) and Southern Virginia on Nov. 19th and 20th. ON THE DEFENSIVE Through the first two games this season the Chanticleers have forced their opponents into 45 turnovers, 21 of which have come by way of steals. In addition Coastal has dominated the defensive glass, hauling in 66 of their 101 boards on the defensive end. 4 WHAT SOPHOMORE SLUMP? Sophomores AJ Jordan and Shatia Cole are unaware of the superstitious sophomore slump that tends to befall athletes. Through Coastal s two games, the duo lead the team in scoring as Jordan averages 10.5 points and Cole 8.5. Furthermore, Jordan has already set or tied five statistical career-highs this season. YOUNG, SEASONED CHANTS The Chanticleers look like an extremely young team on paper without a senior on the roster. However, the Chants are a seasoned bunch, returning eight players who have seen significant action in their careers All-Big South Freshmen Team selection Shatia Cole returns for her second season after ranking second on the team with 10.5 points per game a year ago. Guards AJ Jordan and Angelica Henry, who made numerous starts last season should also be in the fold as key contributers. Junior guard Kayla Cook will look to have a breakout season after 5.2 points and 3.1 rebounds per game as a sophomore. In all, the young Chants count 268 games played and 39 starts between them. MAY LeFORCE BE WITH YOU Head Coach Alan LeForce enters his 16th season at the helm of the Chanticleers holding a record at Coastal and a career record. LeForce s 215 wins on the Chanticleer side are 120 more than Gin Markland, Coastal s second all-time winningest coach. Additionally, LeForce is the only coach in NCAA Division I history to win 200-plus games as both a men s and women s head coach. TOUGH STRETCHES Coastal s schedule features a pair of tough stretches of games. The first comes after playing only two games to start the season. The Chants third, fourth, fifth and sixth contests of the season all fall within a seven-day time frame. Coastal first plays Western Carolina (Nov. 17) followed by Columbia College (Nov. 19) and Southern Virginia (20) all at home. The Chants then fly to Fort Wayne, Ind. for a road bout with IPFW on (Nov. 24). Coastal s second grinding stretch comes the week leading into the Christmas holiday. The Chants host Converse on Dec. 13 followed by perennial power North Carolina on Dec. 16. Coastal then travels to South Carolina State (Dec. 18) before playing North Florida in its annual Carolinas Challenge game at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center on Dec. 19.

A Chanticleer (SHON-ti-cleer) gives Coastal Carolina University one of the most unique nicknames in all of sports. Chanticleer comes from Chaucer s Canterbury Tales and came to Coastal Carolina when the University was a member of the University of South Carolina system. A Chanticleer is a rooster who rules the barnyard with cunning and wit. His competitiveness never wanes as he battles to the end, using his brains to come out on top every time. 5
