The Bucs opened up the season with a victory over UNC Asheville on Friday. Four different ETSU players scored in double figures. Senior Chandler Christopher led the way with 18 points along with seven rebounds and seven assists. Junior Yamile Rodriguez had an impressive debut for the Bucs registering 12 points, eight rebounds and five blocks. Wake Forest is also coming off an opening night victory over LSU, The Demon Deacons were picked to finish 14th in the ACC this season by the coaches preseason poll. SEASON NOTES Brittney Ezell enters her third season as head coach of the Buccaneers and 11th season overall Ezell has a record in three seasons for ETSU. Overall she has a record of Junior Shamauria Bridges and sophomore Tianna Tarter were named to the Preseason All-SoCon team. ETSU experienced an unbelievable turnaround in 2014, with a 16-game win progression from the season where the Buccaneers went The total win improvement was the second-best in the NCAA ETSU was picked to finish third in the preseason SoCon poll. The Bucs are predicted to finish second in the SoCon media poll behind Chattanooga. This will be the eighth meeting between the two programs and the first meeting between the two teams since ETSU trails the all-time series, 5-2, having a five-game losing streak against the Demon Deacons. BUCS VS. THE DEMON DEACONS This will be the eighth meeting between the Bucs and the Demon Deacons. The two teams last met in 2008 where the Bucs fell to Wake Forest, on the road. In that game, ETSU was led by Siarre Evans who recorded a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds. The Bucs forced Wake Forest to commit 18 turnovers and shoot just 39 percent from the field. BUCS HOLD ON FOR VICTORY OVER UNC ASHEVILLE Behind senior Chandler Christopher s 18 point, seven rebound, seven assist performance the Bucs held on for a victory over the Bulldogs of UNC Asheville in the season opener inside Brooks Gym. Four different ETSU players scored in double figures. Junior Yamile Rodriguez had an impressive debut for the Bucs recording 12 points, eight rebounds and five blocks. Overall, ETSU shot 43 percent from the field, holding UNCA to just 34 percent shooting. BRIDGES, TARTER HIGHLIGHT PRESEASON ALL-SOCON Junior Shamauria Bridges and sophomore Tianna Tarter represented ETSU as part of the Preseason All-SoCon team as voted on by the league s coaches. In 2014, Bridges was named Second Team All-SoCon with Tarter being named to the All-SoCon Freshman team. BUCS PICKED TOP 3 IN COACHES AND MEDIA POLLS As voted on by the league s head coaches, the Bucs were picked to finish third with 35 points. In the media poll, ETSU was selected second with one first-place vote. YAMILE S BLOCK PARTY In her Buccaneer debut after transfering from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, Yamile Rodriguez swatted away opponent attempts as she recorded five blocks in ETSU s season opening victory. It is the first time a Buc player has recorded five blocks since Serena Clark did so last year against UTC. CHANDLER S OPENING PERFORMANCE Senior Chandler Christopher had one heck of a last season opener as she recorded a team-high 18 points along with seven rebounds and seven assists. Christopher who last season averaged just 7.5 points per game, had the second highest scoring performance of her career. Wofford 10 points THE GANG S (ALMOST) ALL HERE With the start of the campaign, the Bucs return eight letterwinners from a team that finished overall last year. ETSU will return a trio of starting guards in senior Chandler Christopher, junior Shamauria Bridges and sophomore Tianna Tarter. FRESH BLOOD In addition to the number of returning player s to this year s team, the Buccaneers also welcome five to the mix in In the post, Sadasia Tipps from Hickory, N.C. is coming off a season in which she helped Hickory HS to a NCHSAA State Championship. The Bucs also welcome Raven Dean from Charlotte, N.C. who was a three-time first team All-Conference player. In the backcourt, Carley Lytton joins after leading Floyd HS to a state championship as well. Transfers Yamile Rodriguez and Morgan Martin also join the roster. NEW YEAR, NEW RULES Changes to the women s game have been introduced by the NCAA for the season: Four 10-minute quarters Teams reach bonus on 5th foul in each quarter Defenders allowed to place forearm on offensive post player INTERVIEWS Media wishing to interview players and coaches should contact Nathan Palcowski in Media Relations to make arrangements. Coaches and players are available each day after practice. Players are not available on game day prior to the game. Radio interviews with Coach Ezell for opponnent broadcasts should be scheduled and recorded prior to game day, if possible. Post game interviews will take place in the back hallway of Brooks Gym on the right side upon entering. When on the road, interviews will take place in the designated media room, unless otherwise noted.

However, Ezell is 0-4 against Chattanooga including an overtime loss in the SoCon Tournament Championship a season ago. Overall, the Bucs are in SoCon play, as they played in the SoCon from before heading to the Atlantic Sun. DEAN LOOKING TO WRITE OWN LEGACY Incoming freshman forward Raven Dean is the daughter of former NFL receiver Muhsin Muhammed. Muhammed played 14 seasons with the Carolina Panthers and Chicago Bears, appearing in two Super Bowls. ITS A SCHURR THING Sophomore guard Malloree Schurr takes after her head coach making the most of her time in college playing two sports (Basketball and Softball). As a freshman last season, Schurr played in 27 games off the bench averaging 1.3 points and 1.1 rebounds per game. During the spring season she appeared in 15 games for Buc Softball with a.390 average, hitting one home run and recording five RBI s. BRIDGES LEADS THE WAY Junior guard Shamauria Bridges led the Bucs last year, scoring 12.5 points per game. That s the most by a player since TaRonda Wiles scored 17.4 points per game during the season. EZELL LOCKED IN At the end of last season, head coach Brittney Ezell signed a new four-year agreement with ETSU to remain the head coach of the Buccaneers through the season. YOUTH BEYOND THEIR YEARS At a combined age of 121 years old, the ETSU women s basketball program is second youngest coach staff in NCAA Division I. ANIMALS VS. OBJECTS In one of the more odd stats of the season, the Buccaneers are all-time vs. opponents with Animal mascots. The margin is much larger with opponents that have an Human/Object mascot, as the Bucs have a record all-time GOT THE SEASON STARTED OFF RIGHT ETSU since 2004 has a 8-4 record in home openers. During that time the Bucs made the NCAA Tournament three times. IF YOU LIKE IT PUT A RING ON IT There is an extra motivation for the Bucs this season as they were five minutes away from heading to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since In the SoCon Tournament final after trailing for most of the game, ETSU stormed back to send the game into overtime against nationally-ranked Chattanooga. However it was not meant to be as the Bucs fell to the Mocs, giving the Blue & Gold motivation to get back to the championship game and ultimately walk away SoCon Champions BUCCANEERS HEADING TO VOLUNTEER COUNTRY On Dec. 2, ETSU will travel a couple hours down the road to Volunteer country to take on the Tennessee Lady Vols inside the largest on-campus, single-sport arena in the country, Thompson-Boling Assembly Center and Arena. The Bucs face the eight-time NCAA National Champions and are coming off a season in which they went 30-6 and made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight. In the first meeting between the two schools back in 1968, the Bucs came away victorious and have lost ever since with an overall record against the Vols of KEEPING THEM CLOSE TO HOME Head coach Brittney Ezell has preached togetherness and FAMILY which shows up on her roster as well with six of the 13 players within 150 miles from their hometowns. Ezell has strived to lure the best athletes in the state of Tennessee to stay home as three players on the 2015 squad are from Tennessee. 30 FOR 30 WITH COACH EZELL It took Coach Ezell just 61 games to earn her 30th win at ETSU, the second fastest coach in school history to reach the 30-win mark. The coach before Ezell, Karen Kemp was the fastest, notching her 30th win in just 53 games. Kemp coached from 1994 to BUCS VS. SEC/ACC CHALLENGE ETSU since 2009, has played 18 contests against either an Atlantic Coast Conference or Southeastern Conference oppoent. The Bucs have played an SEC opponent every year since 2007 and have a 7-43 record vs. the Confernece. The blue & Gold s best winning percentage vs. the SEC comes against Vanderbilt as they are 2-4. ESPN 3 BROADCAST All ETSU Women s Basketball Southern Conference home games are set to be broadcasted on ESPN 3 beginning January, 14 when the Bucs host the Spartans of UNC-Greensboro. ETSU will also be featured in five other ESPN 3 SoCon road contests. All other nonconfernece home matches can be seen on the SoCon Digital Network. AS CHANDLER GOES.. SO TOO THE BUCCANEERS Last season, it seemed that Chandler Christopher s point production directly coincided with the team as a whole producing victories. The Bucs went 9-2 in games during the 2014 season when Christopher scored 10 or more points and were in all other contests. Christopher led the Bucs with a.344 three point percentage. LETS HIT THE ROAD Overall, the Bucs were 10-9 on the road during 2014 but as the season progressed, so did the Bucs holding a 5-2 record on the road during SoCon play, the second best mark in the conference. Visiting fans will get to see ETSU 16 times this season with key road contests at Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Davidson and Old Dominion. SOMETHING HAS TO CHANGE ETSU faces 10 opponents during the campaign in which the Bucs have a losing streak against. The longest losing streak comes at the hands of the University of Tennessee, where the Bucs have lost 14 straight. In her second year at ETSU in , ETSU experienced an unbelievable turnaround under Ezell with a 16-game win progression from where the Bucs went The total win improvement was the second-best in the country. The win total of 21 marked the first time since seasont that ETSU reached 20 wins. Led by Ezell, the Bucs made it to the Southern Conference Tournament Championship game falling to No.1 seeded and nationally ranked Chattanooga in overtime, ETSU appeared in the Women s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) for the third time in program history falling short to Atlantic Coast Confernece member NC State, Prior to ETSU in , Ezell directed Belmont to an campaign and the Bruins first postseason appearence since 2007 a berth in the Women s National Invitaitonal (WBI). Belmont took a rigorous non-conference schedule and earned a victory at Big Ten powerhouse Indiana. Belmont went 11-5 in OVC play, tying for second place in the OVC East and earning the confernece tournament No.3 seed. In , Ezell helped the Bruins to 11 conference victories and a league tournament No.3 seed in the program s first Atlantic Sun Conference season. Ezell also spent two seasons as head coach at the University of Montevallo inheriting a Falcon program that recorded one winning season in its previous 12 years. Ezell directed Montevallo to a record in The Falcons that season ranked second in the Peach Belt Conference in scoring defense. Prior to Montevallo, Ezell spent three seasons as head coach at Okaloosa-Walton Junior College (now Northwest Florida State College). The Lady Raiders went under Ezell s watch, including an appearance in the 2006 NJCAA Regional Tournament. During her tenure, Ezell developed 14 All-Panhandle conference performers. The Lady Raiders also had 12 Academic All-Conference honorees. Ezell s coaching career begin at the University of Alabama, where she spent five years as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. Ezell was coaching at her aluma mater as she was a four-year starting point guard for the Crimson Tide, helping lead the team to a record and four consecutive NCAA Division I Sweet Sixteen appearances from She ranks in the top 20 in career scoring with 1,022 points and is second all-time in career assists (620) and games started (114). She was an Second Team All-SEC selection in 1998 while being named to the SEC All-Tournament Team in Additionally, Ezell become the first female two-sport athlete at Alabama in over a decade when she joined the Alabama softball team. A two-time Golden Glove recipient and a two-year starter at third base and shortstop, Ezell helped the Tide win its first SEC Tournament Championship in Ezell earned a bachelor s degree in business management from Alabama in 1999 and a master s degree in education administration from the University of Nebraska in A native of Franklin, Tennessee, Ezell was a prep standout at Franklin High School. She was a three-time District MVP, tallying over 2,000 points and 600 assists in her career.
