3 RECORD WATCH After her first goal of the season against SUU, junior forward/midfielder Jenni Clough needs just one goal to set the all-time record for career goals (13, currently held by Clough and Carolyn Theurer). Clough scored 10 goals as a true freshman in 2005 before scoring two last season. She also scored a goal in the shootout with South Dakota State in the USC Tournament last season but, due to NCAA scoring rules, shootout statistics do not count towards individual or team season stats. Clough also has 34 career points and needs just four to surpass Theurer for the career school record (37). FIELD RENOVATION The Utah Valley athletic department is upgrading its women s soccer facility. Once completed, the home field for the women s soccer team will include increased seating, lighting, a level playing field with new sod and an improved drainage system. The renovations have Utah Valley soccer coach Brent Anderson and his players excited about the upcoming season. The girls are very excited, Anderson said. I sent the players a text message this morning to let them know work has started on the field and they all responded with great excitement. This is a positive step in building our program. The field will have a great look to it and it will continue to be a great place to have our home field. Since Utah Valley sanctioned women s soccer in 2002, the Wolverines home field has had a seating capacity of 500. The field was leveled and new sod and the drainage system were added during the summer months and the field is ready for UV games to be played on the new surface. Also added was a concrete sidewalk along the west side of the field. The increased seating and light projects are still ongoing and not expected to be finished during the 2006 season. ABOUT WYOMING... Wyoming is coming off a two consecutive losses to James Madison and Hofstra. Cowgirl junior Tamika Wilson scored her second goal of the season (10 of her career). Junior Amanda Lathrop and sophomore Emily Layton were both named to the Comfort Inn Invitational All-Tournament Team this past weekend. This weekend s games against Utah Valley State and Fresno State will be Wyoming s first meeting against both teams. ABOUT NORTHERN COLORADO... The Bears had their game against Air Force, Sept. 5 postponed due to weather issues the game will be remade at a yet to be determined date. NC then headed to Denver to play against the regionally ranked Pioneers (Sept. 8). Northern Colorado quickly got down 1-0 in the first half (14:30), only to tie the game up at one just over minute later (15:51) on Brittani Knott s first career goal. The Pioneers regained the lead at the end of the first half and added three more goals in the second stanza to win the game going away by the final margain of 5-1. LAST TIME OUT... New Mexico 3, Utah Valley 1 - Sept. 8 Athena Bradshaw scored her first career goal for Utah Valley as she found the net in the second half in a 3-1 loss at New Mexico. The Wolverines didn t have many scoring opportunities against a veteran UNM squad. After controlling the attack early on, the Lobos found the net in 18th minute when UNM s Kate Wyrick got loose and dribbled the ball into the box where she took a shot and found the left corner of the net to give New Mexico a 1-0 lead. Utah Valley fired only one shot in the first half, compared to the Lobos 13. The UV defense played tough early on, allowing just two of New Mexico s 13 shots to be on goal. Each of the Wolverines first-half attack attempts were stopped by the UNM defense before Utah Valley was able to fire off any shots on goal. The Lobos struck early in the second half, beating Utah Valley back in transition after Jenni Clough took a shot that was deflected. UNM s Jennifer Nielsen beat UV into the box and fired a shot past the Wolverines keeper to go ahead 2-0. After putting the pressure on New Mexico, the Wolverines got a goal back. UV s Nicole Archibald sent a pretty cross that was deflected by the Lobos keeper. Bradshaw was in the right place at the right time as she drove home her first goal in the 59th minute. Archibald got the assist on the goal. The Wolverines goal was the first scored against New Mexico in two games as the Lobos shutout their previous two games. New Mexico added a goal off a free kick from 25 yards out in the 66th minute. Long Island 3, Utah Valley 2 - Sept. 9 Despite two early goals from Shantae Adams, Utah Valley dropped a 3-2 match to Long Island after surrendering three unanswered goals. It s encouraging that when we play as a team we are very good, head coach Brent Anderson said. Unfortunately, we started playing as individuals. Samantha Post scored three goals for Long Island to lift the Blackbirds past the Wolverines. Utah Valley took an early 1-0 lead in the 16th minute on Adams first goal. She freed herself and fired a shot from 28 feet that found the net. Just five minutes later, Adams added her second goal in the 21st minute on an assist from Katey Turner. We played good soccer for the first 35 minutes, Anderson said. We just need to put it together for an entire game. The Blackbirds cut the lead in half in the 38th minute after Post scored her first goal. Post received a cross from Lana Martinez and beat the keeper for the goal. Minutes later, Post tied the game in the 43rd minute on an assist from Neddie King. The match went into the break tied at 2-2 and remained that way until the 86th mintue, when Post struck again for the game-winner. Post beat a Wolverine defender and found the net.

4 HEAD COACH BRENT ANDERSON Brent Anderson enters his second year as the second head coach of the Utah Valley women s soccer program. In his first season leading Utah Valley, Anderson s Wolverines posted a record, the team s best winning percentage since its first Division I season (2003) when UV faced off against several non-division I opponents. The 2006 squad faced arguably its toughest schedule in program history. Even with the competitive schedule, which included a game against No. 24 Loyola Marymount, the Wolverines had their best defensive season in the program s four-year history. UV surrendererd just 32 goals on the season or 1.68 goals per game, both school records. The Wolverines season was highlighted by a undefeated record against in-state opponents with victories over Utah State and Southern Utah and a tie against Dixie State in a game that was suspended due to inclement weather. After beating Delaware State, 2-1 in the first round, UV finished its season in the United Soccer Conference (USC) tournament semifinals losing to South Dakota State in a shootout. The Wolverines will once again look to improve in the 2007 season which features a larger USC schedule and an opportunity to host the USC tournament in November. Anderson stresses overall discipline on and off the field. He teaches the importance of practicing hard, being disciplined in all workouts and being a successful, disciplined student. Anderson comes to Utah Valley with solid credentials. Before coming to the Orem campus he was an assistant coach at Utah State for eight years. Anderson helped guide USU to its most successful season in That year, the Aggies finished While coaching at Utah State, Anderson was the Director of Coaches for the Valencia Futbal Club, one of the state s premier club teams located in Cache Valley. Anderson holds a United States Soccer Federation National B Coaching License. To gain the prestigious license, Anderson has worked out with the United States national team s coaching staff in several rigorous sessions before passing certified coaching tests administered by the coaches. Since 2002, Anderson has worked with the Utah state Olympic Development Program (ODP). He trains with and coaches young soccer players who aspire to play for the United States National team. He has also worked with numerous other clubs throughout the state of Utah. Currently, Anderson is an assistant coach of two of Utah Valley s Celtic Storm club teams. He coaches the U-18 and U-14. Recently, Anderson helped lead the U-18 team to a second-place finish in state competition and a quarterfinal appearance at Regionals in Las Vegas. Prior to his coaching career, Anderson played club soccer at Utah State for four years. He was a four-year starter and team captain in 1996 and 1997 as a goal keeper. Anderson was named First-Team All-Region National College Soccer Association (NCSA) in In the NCSA, he played against teams such as Arizona, Michigan, Tennessee and Kansas State. As team captain, he led the Utah State club team to the NCSA Final Four in After finishing his playing career, Anderson started the Cadence Soccer Shop in Cache Valley. He ran clinics and held leagues with the business from 1996 to In 1998, Anderson opened Ultimate Sports, an Indoor Soccer Facility located in Hyde Park, Utah. He worked as the director of operations, the director of player development and the head coach of several club teams while running the business. The facility also included other recreational activities including a rock-climbing wall. Anderson is a native of Logan, Utah. He graduated from Mountain Crest High School in He played soccer all four years. In his senior year he was named to the All-Region team. When Anderson is not coaching soccer he enjoys spending time with his family, snowboarding, skateboarding and playing indoor soccer with his family and friends. Anderson and his wife Kathy have three kids: Tennessee, Easton and Kaiya. The goal put UV ahead, 1-0 in the second half of the game. Clough s goal was her first of the season and 13th of her career, tying the career school record. The two points also brought her within four points of the all-time school record Shantae Adams -- USC Player of the Week (Sept. 11) Adams, a junior from Orem, Utah, scored her first two goals of the season against Long Island, Sunday afternoon. Her first goal came in the 16th minute and was unassisted as she fired a shot from 28 feet out. Less than five minutes later, she connected again off an assist from teammate Katey Turner. The two goals gave the Wolverines a 2-0 lead early in the game.
