Letter from the President Neal Krauss Happy New Year! May the coming year bring you and your families much happiness and prosperity. I have always liked this time of year because I can take time to look back at the past year and evaluate the good and bad then start anew again was definitely an eventful year for youth hockey in Omaha and hopefully one that will be remembered as a successful year for years to come. In my mind the biggest hockey news story was the merger of the two programs into the Omaha Hockey Club. But there were many other great things that happened as well. Who will forget the Bantam AA team winning the National Championship? I m sure those families will remember 2010 fondly for years to come. What about watching the OHC Initiation Program stepping on the ice for the first time, all 150 of them? What a site that Continued on page 2 OHC 1
2 OHC is in urgent need of used hockey equipment! We continue to have new players start IP each week and we have run out of rental gear. Additional sets will not be available for order until spring. We want to continue to offer an affordable way for families to get started playing hockey and we need your help. Please consider donating your used equipment to the club. We will sell each item for $5 and put the money toward the hardship fund. Items needed are: Very small youth equipment for players ages 3-8 (Shin guards, elbow pads, shoulder pads, breezers, gloves, skates, straight blade sticks and especially helmets). Please bring your items to Moylan and leave them with Gilinda, a board member, commissioner, team manager anyone and they will get to the right place. UNO Season Ticket Special University of Nebraska-Omaha is offering the Omaha Hockey Club discounted and prorated season tickets for the remaining WCHA hockey games. Beginning Nov 7 th Omaha Hockey Club participants and families will receive a 20% discount off season tickets (offer not valid for existing season ticket holders). To order season tickets, contact Nate Neufind, Director of Ticket Operations at Jim s I Do The Work Lawn Care Mary s Home Care Firewater Grille Walnut Ridge Family Dental, PC Continued from page 1 was to see. Hopefully it is the first year of a lifetime of hockey for all of them. What about the first Nebraska Hockey League games against Lincoln, Fremont or Kearney? Not much like playing for club and city pride. It was a great year in so many ways. But wait, it is time for 2011! We have Midwest League and Tournament Championships to win on the travel side. We have Nebraska Hockey League games to play and a tournament to compete in and win as well on the house side. We have Mites and IP s honing their skills weekly to prepare themselves to continue the OHC tradition of excellence. On the administrative side, as a board we have our work cut out to make OHC even better than it was in We must learn from our failures and improve on our successes. We must continue to grow the game and to work on keeping players on the ice from IP through High School. We will possibly be saying goodbye to 6 board members and welcoming 6 new board members and with them they will bring new and exciting ideas I am sure. In short, 2011 holds all kinds of exciting possibilities and I can t wait to see what it delivers. Happy New Year! Neal Krauss President Omaha Hockey Club OHC 2
