2 What s an ME? ME stands for Member Evaluation Summary The ME is a form that you fill out about your experiences in 4-H You can get information from your record books and prior ME summaries Filling out the summary is just a part of the ME process

3 The ME Process Fill out ME Summary and Trip Preference Form Ask for two recommendation letters (one from your club leader and one from another adult neither should be related to you) Turn in these four items by November 14 to the UW-Extension office Participate in a short interview on November 17 or 18

4 Why Should You Participate? Take stock of your 4-H experiences to date Receive feedback from adult 4-H leaders Practice valuable interviewing skills Be a Barron County delegate in a 4-H travel experience

5 4-H Trips Meet new people that become lifelong friends Learn about yourself and others See new places Gain travel experience Learn skills that will help you in school, jobs, relationships, etc.

7 Discover Wisconsin Younger members (grades 5-7) Only youth from Barron County 4-H Design and plan trip together last time was to Green Bay Meetings required for planning Cost should be less than $100; depends upon where going Date to be planned by group summer 2015

8 Space Camp Grades 6-8; max. age of 15 at time of trip Travel on bus with other youth from WI to Huntsville, AL to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center NASA-sponsored program Cost approx. $525; Barron 4-H pays half Dates of trip are April 16-20, 2015

9 Wisconsin 4-H & Youth Conference Grades 7-10 at time of selection Held on UW-Madison Campus; stay in dorms About 600 youth, all from Wisconsin Cost approx. $235 + approx. $60 if you ride the bus Dates of trip are June 22-25, 2015

10 4-H American Spirit Experience Grades 8-10 Travel by bus to Eastern states Youth from NW Region Some preliminary meetings required for planning Cost $1200; Barron 4-H pays half Dates of trip are June 10-18, 2015

11 Barron County Exchange Grades 8-12 Exchange with Ashland County, OH Travel in 2015; host in 2016 Some preliminary meetings required for planning Cost $400-$500 Dates of trip are TBA; late June or early July, 2015

12 Canada Fishing Trip Grades 8-13 Lake Pakashkan in Ontario, Canada Need a passport or passport card Take an active role in cabin living; meals, housekeeping, etc. Cost approx. $150 + passport Dates of trip are TBA; one week in late July or early August, 2015

13 Citizenship Washington Focus Grades 10-12; minimum age of 15 at time of trip Travel by bus to Washington, D.C. with Wisconsin youth Stay at National 4-H Conference Center Cost approx. $1150; Barron 4-H pays half Dates of trip are one week in June or July, 2015

14 National 4-H Congress Grades 10-12; max. age of 18 as of Jan. 1 in year of travel Travel by plane to Atlanta, Georgia with local delegates 1,300 4-H members from the U.S. and Puerto Rico Cost approx. $1100; Barron 4-H pays half; 4-H Fdn. contributes Dates of trip are Nov. 27-Dec. 2, 2015

15 National 4-H Conference Grades 10-12; max. age of 18 as of Jan. 1 in year of travel Held in Washington, D.C. A total of 6 youth from Wisconsin are selected Your application for this trip goes towards a nomination from Barron County to the State 4-H selection committee Cost approx. $1100; Barron 4-H pays half; 4-H Fdn. contributes Dates of trip are April 10-16, 2015

16 Key Award Grades 12 or 13 and graduating from 4-H in 2015 Most prestigious 4-H award Based of 4-H projects, leadership and activity involvement

17 Paying For Your Trip Some trips are half paid for by Barron County 4-H Wisconsin 4-H Foundation contributes to some experiences $200 annual event funding reimbursement from Barron County 4-H Fundraisers through Trips Committee Fundraisers through your 4-H club

18 Tips for Success ME Summary Answer thoroughly and to the best of your ability Type or write neatly Trips/Award Preference Form Apply for more than one trip, but know what your first choice is

19 Tips for Success Interview Dress neatly older youth should look professional Know your 4-H projects and what you have learned from them Be able to talk about your roles in community service Think about ways your have shown leadership in your club Be polite look interviewers in the eyes speak clearly Be enthusiastic!

20 Tips for Success Look at the ME/Interview Evaluation form online Remember, everyone gets nervous for interviews! It s okay. This is practicing a skill you will use many times in your life!
