1 Greater Bay Area Airstream Club Silver Bulletin Shirley and Dennis Shakespeare aka The Wall and Thisby There were only six rigs at the Bodega Bay rally: Dennis and Shirley Shakespeare Clark and Betty Dooley Dale and Nancy Harrington and friend Pam Jim and Shari Gong Ken and Judy Bechthold August 2016 Jack and Shirley Whitcomb We were all there by Thursday night. On Friday, some played golf; others went to the Schultz Museum. We went to Doran Beach with our dog, Casey. On Friday night, we had a burn your own meat and something to share dinner. It was wonderful. We had a special surprise of Mom s apple and raspberry pies from Forestville. We then watched Alfred Hitchcock s movie, The Birds. On Saturday, some got clam chowder and went to see the ocean at Bodega Head; others went out to lunch in Jenner. We all enjoyed the music at the community center next door. They had a car show and raffle. We then had another burn your own meat and something to share dinner. We played chickenfoot until 11:00 p.m. Sunday was a relaxing day of watching the 49ers game for some; we had to go home. It was in the mid-80s that day at the beach and 106 in Windsor. The rest of the gang was planning to go to dinner at The Tides Wharf Restaurant on Sunday night. It was a very low key rally. 2 Pendleton Round-Up Rally Cecelia and I just returned from northeastern Oregon and the 51st WBCCI Pendleton Round-Up Rally. We now know why the Oregon club has been offering this rally for so many years. It is an extremely entertaining week of events. The rally starts on Monday evening and ends on Sunday morning. The Oregon unit has a special dispensation from the Pendleton City Council to camp in one of the Robert s Rules of Order city parks. No other group has this privilege. There is water and one pump out during that week. Many group meals are provided. On Saturday, there were 17,000 people at the rodeo finals with over $500,000 in prize money awarded. The only rodeo event I have seen that was better was the Calgary Stampede in Canada. There were trials all week where contestants qualified for the various events. Full rodeos were held on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Our group got a backstage tour of the facilities and the huge Native American Village that was on the grounds. We also attended a huge evening performance of a wild-west show called Happy Canyon. They were celebrating the 100th anniversary of this volunteer show involving hundreds of local people from the community and nearby tribal reservations. Our breakfast with the rodeo queen and princesses was a lot of fun as well. Be sure to put this event high up on your Airstream bucket list.
