This month for the Clover Kids activity I am sharing 2 recipes that I shared this spring with students completing STEM lessons. The first recipe is for Bread in a Bag. Believe it or not, this is a very easy, not real messy activity and the ending product is delicious, once baked! To go along with the homemade bread the youth enjoyed making butter, so I m sharing that recipe as well. Bread in a Bag In a gallon sized Ziploc baggie add: 1 cup unbleached white or wheat flour 4 tablespoons sugar 2 ½ teaspoons rapid rise yeast or ¼ ounce package 1 cup warm water Seal the bag, releasing as much air from the bag as possible. Scrunch and squeeze the ingredients around in the bag, until mixed well together. Place on counter for 10 minutes, so the yeast can begin to work. Open the bag again and add 1 cup flour 3 tablespoons oil 1 teaspoon salt Seal the bag, releasing as much air as possible and repeat scrunching and mixing ingredients together. Open the bag and add 1 cup flour Mix ingredients together one last time. Lay a sheet of wax paper on the counter and lightly dust with flour and pour mixture onto it. Throw dirty bag away. Knead and work the dough until it is nice and smooth for approximately 5 minutes or less. Spray bread pan with cooking spray and place dough into bread pan. Set dough in a non-drafty warm spot and cover with a clean kitchen towel. Let raise for minutes, or until doubled in size. If dough doesn t double is size, don t worry, dough will continue to rise some in the oven also. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Bake approximately 25 minutes or until bread sounds hollow when tapped on top and top is a pretty light brown in color. Cool in pan for a couple of minutes, turn onto a cooling rack or clean towel. Cut with bread knife. Can be served warm or cooled. Enjoy! Homemade Butter in a Baby Food Jar 1. Find a baby food jar and lid (of any size). 2. Fill ½ full with heavy whipping cream. 3. Close lid tightly. For extra security you may wrap lid with masking or duct tape. 4. Shake jar. 5. Keep shaking. 6. Continue shaking until a ball forms inside the jar. This may take up to 20 minutes. 7. Drain off the remaining buttermilk. This liquid can be saved to be used in making pancakes or discarded. 8. If time allows, refrigerate to harden a bit or serve immediately. Enjoy! CLOVER KIDS CONNECTION FIND US AT: EXTENSION.IASTATE.EDU/4H/FAYETTE
