It seemed like everyone enjoyed the entertainment. I have to admit it was the biggest crowd we have had in a long time. John & Shari Hildebrandt have returned from their long cruise. It is good to see them back. With that said, they are ready to get back to chairing our Bowling Party on Sunday with a pot-luck immediately following at the Club. If you are planning on participating please sign-up. Right now we only have three couples going. If we don t get more, we will have to cancel. Then on Friday evening John will share all his Trivia knowledge he learned on the cruise with us. It will also be Pub night. So come on out and have some fun. We might all learn something. Sunday, March 30 th is the Blessing of the Fleet and a dock party immediately following the Blessing. Birthday and Anniversary Night will be held on the second Tuesday of the month. We were losing money at the rate of about $3000 or $4000 per month in With two months under our collective belts we have shown a profit of approximately $1500 in January & $2000 in February. March is also off to a positive start, thanks to the hard work of your Board and the dedication and support of you, our loyal members. These results are no panacea, but they are better then the alternative. You, our members, have been helping our food costs by signing up for dinners! This helps to reduce waste as we always have to cook more than is indicated by those who sign up for dinner. But, the closer we can come, the more profitable the dinner will be. Our new Chef Jaycee is off to a good start and promises good things down the road. He has a lot of experience and will show us his favorite dishes going forward. Our Operations & Finance Committee continues to explore different options to make our systems and methods better. We are looking into expanding the use of our outside CPA for some services. Vice Commodore Cliff Lewis has been busy repairing door locks, cleaning the kitchen, and managing our maintenance. He is always looking for a helping hand or two. Rear Commodore Ann continues to book new outside events and inside member sponsored ones. Our Membership Committee, under the auspices of Judy Sulser, continues to work their Wet Wednesday theme successfully. They are breaking even or showing a small profit each week and have corralled 6 new members this year. Stop by on Wednesday & enjoy! Our boating events are winding up with the warmer weather on the way and hopefully the rain stops. The trip to Vero Beach was a good time for our sailors in spite of some wet and windy weather. Sarah Ulis, has decided to use our storage and display case that languishes in the men s bathroom for our re-instituted, Ship s Store. If there are any items you would like to see ask her. Linda Osborn, Pilot publisher, is pedaling her Business Card ads for the Pilot to anyone who will listen. She will be advertising in the pilot for new clients. That is when she is not performing her Clothes Pin club act! It is good to see John Keyes back. The bar has been a quiet and lonely place without him. Also, the Bar revenue has been a little off! (Continued on page 7)

Welcome New Members Bob and Linda Humphrey just moved to Palm Coast from Fallbrook, California. Bob retired from Honeywell as a senior field engineer, then started his own business and holds a patent on his adjustable golf practice tee. Linda has recently retired from a sales position that she held for 20 years in southern California. She specialized in industrial furniture, storage systems, weapons racks, mezzanines, and similar items installed in new building construction projects for the Navy and Marine Corps. Bob and Linda enjoy travel, golf, and boating. They had a 38 powerboat in Coronado, California. They just bought kayaks, and Bob will be looking for a boat this summer to fully enjoy the boating life. Both are very happy to be living on the water again. Please join me in welcoming our new members to the club. Vice Commodore s Report We have been advised by Total Comfort, that three of our air conditioning units are not working at full capacity and may have to be replaced this summer. We have budgeted to replace two units. We hope that the third unit will hold up for another year. The compressor in the Walk-in-Cooler was replaced for a cost of about $2, We have scheduled an outside Spring Cleaning, for March 25th, from 8:00 am to midday. We need all the help we can get to tackle the landscaping maintenance, and the pressure cleaning. More hands make the work lighter, so all who are able please come and help us. 3 Cliff Lewis Vice Commodore

Fleet Activities Boaters start your engines! The Blessing of Boats traditionally marks the beginning of the boating season across the nation. But Florida is a year-round boater s paradise. However, true to tradition, fleet activities are stepping up in April... At the time this article is being written, PCYC s annual Blessing of Boats is scheduled for Sunday, March 30, at 2:00pm in the Cimmaron Basin. PC Cliff Lewis is the Event Captain. Father Frank from the Episcopal Church will be conducting the blessing at Tony Garofalo s dock. A potluck follows at the Club. On Tuesday, April 1, the Fleet Captain s Meeting will be at 5:00pm at the club to talk about April and May events. Event Captains Cliff Lewis and Bill and Judy Sulser will be discussing the trip to Amelia Island for the annual Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival during the first weekend in May. Members may wish to join the fleet by car for this very popular arts and crafts festival and parade of decorated shrimp boats. PC Mike Norris is also on the meeting s agenda to discuss the upcoming Boaters Forum which will start on Thursday evening, May 15. IOBG will team up with the Coast Guard Auxiliary to present a two-part program focusing on the Skill of Docking and Cruising the Florida Keys. Doors open at 5:30pm. Program starts at 6:30pm. There will also be a roundtable discussion if time allows. April s fleet activities begins with a Dock Party and Dinghy Race at the Club on Sunday, April 6, at 3:00pm. Never participated in, or watched, a dinghy race? Well, here is how the event works. PC Dave MacDonald is the Event Captain and will set up the race course in the Country Club Waterway along the Club s waterfront and will time each race. Two persons team up in the dinghy. The person with the oars is blind-folded. The partner gives touch signals indicating which oar or oars will keep the dinghy on course. The team with the best time wins the dinghy race. It s very entertaining! So bring a potluck item and join us for a fun afternoon. Shipmates Report. We are looking forward to our Annual Fashion Show on April 2 with resort attire from local boutiques. Linda Osborn has graciously agreed to be the Master of Ceremonies. There will be a new addition this year with a few Deckhands as models. Ticket sales have gone well and we are looking forward to a wonderful event. Our thanks go to Elayne Byrd for coordinating the Shipmates outing to the Woman s Exchange at the Pena Peck House in St. Augustine. We had a lovely day with a delicious lunch in the garden and great shopping opportunities. Their gift shop is definitely worth a visit. Elayne even arranged for the weather to be perfect! See you at the fashion show!!! 6 Stephanie Weekes Shipmates Coordinator Shipmates - Brenda Damiani, Elayne Byrd, Stephanie Weekes, Candy Schmidt,Donella Wertz, Judy Sulser and Pat Wade had lunch and a tour of The Pena Peck House in St. Augustine. The Marine Trawler Owners Association s Spring Rendezvous is Monday, April 14 through Thursday, April 17. Several boats from the PCYC Fleet will be cruising up to Fernandina Harbor Marina to attend the (Continued on page 7)

Commodore s Report (Continued from page 2) The International Order of the Blue Gavel or IOBG is supporting our PCYC Boating Forum. You will hear more about it as it gets formulated by PC Mike Norris. I am still planning to build a Kayak & Canoe rack on our dock, but I need to get a Contractor to pull the permit. Unfortunately, several BOG members have resigned namely; Bernard & Natasha Williams. Candy Schmidt is shifting from Treasurer to Secretary. We are in need of a Fleet Captain & Treasurer. Cliff Lewis was elected as Acting Treasurer. Thank you Candy & Cliff. 7 Respectfully, Chris Vorndran Commodore Fleet Activities (Continued from page 6) rendezvous. Registration begins on Monday, followed by three days of programs, discussions, tours, and social events. The schedule is posted in the Club s lobby. Event Captain Robert Ulis heads up a raft-up and beach picnic at Matanzas Inlet s north shore on Saturday, April 19. Many of you know that on weekends Matanzas Inlet is a happening place for recreational boating. If you wish to caravan, plans are to meet at 10:30am at a location (yet to be determined) on the ICW. Look for details and sign up sheet on the bulletin board in the Club s lobby. Fleet Captain s report prepared by Judy Sulser

8 Membership Committee Report The Board of Governors has endorsed the continuation of our Wet Wednesdays open houses this month on April 9, April 16, April 23, and April 30. (Please note that there will not be a Wet Wednesday on April 2 - the date of the Shipmates Fashion Show). Some of the tangible benefits of our efforts to date include recruiting six new members in seven weeks, attracting an average of 22 members and 24 guests attending per open house, and the club is open an additional night for our members to enjoy another evening with friends and neighbors. (Both our Regular Members and Luncheon Members are welcome to attend Wet Wednesdays.) In addition to the results that can be measured, the intangible benefits may be just as important. Our Wet Wednesdays open houses announce to the community that the Palm Coast Yacht Club is still alive and kicking. PCYC is forging a wonderful partnership with the Flagler Chamber. It provides an opportunity for residents to take a look at our facilities. And much more... But success is never easy. Committee members are working very hard and it is exhausting. Our efforts are rewarded by seeing you at the Club. Your participation is greatly appreciated! Judy Sulser Membership Committee Chair Treasurer s Report March 2014 For the month of March, we continued making progress on ending the months with a positive amount on our P&L statement. We did approximately 200% better than budgeted. Congratulations to all who contributed by coming to the club, making reservations, and supporting member events as they are planned. A reminder to please put your member number on all checks sent to the Club. And additionally, as you order please state your member number to the waitstaff. If you have any questions regarding Accounting issues, either call the yacht club or us at accounting@pcycfl.com. We will have answers in as timely a manner as possible. Thank you for your continued support and looking forward to seeing you at the yacht club. Candyce Schmidt Treasurer
