To race or crew, call Charlie Erickson, or 2voodoo@bellsouth.net NORTH SHORE RESULTS The last race of the First Summer Series was sailed July 22. Good to falling winds from the south. Aftershock beat out C'est la Vie by 24 seconds and took first place in the series in Class A with two firsts. Zydeco finished third. Southern Comfort took first and won Class B for the series. Finishing behind Southern Comfort was Miressia, Lamania and Franscisa. Says US Sailing: Macho Slavich, who was born in Croatia but calls New Orleans his home, learned to sail in his thirties in big boats. He started off by sailing on a 50-foot PHRF cruiser and has since sailed in everything from a J/130 and Irwin 31 to his own beloved S He fell in love with the sport and the racing crowd and truly enjoys cruising the Gulf Coast and lake area around New Orleans. A funny thing happened though when he was watching the Finn sailors in the last Olympic Games: this big boat sailor who had never sailed in dinghies got charged up to start a local Finn fleet. After picking up the pieces post-hurricane Katrina (where he stayed behind and helped rescue friends and neighbors), he s back re-building his Finn fleet. Macho jokes about going backwards in sailing, that is starting in big boats and moving toward dinghies and adds, Maybe in a year or two, I ll be in an Opti. Does anyone know if there is a Gray Fleet? In his spare time, he s also working to help create a new sailing center for the City of New Orleans. e-ussailing-weekly Electronic Newsletter from US SAILING, June 21, 2006.

Junius Office Fax It is late September and if it feels to you as though things are slowing down, that s because events have been happening so fast lately. (Round The Lake, Single Handed, Summer Series, Pam Sintes, and of course, The Great Lake Race). From all appearances, the race and events were very successful. Rick Berry was race committee chairman, treasurer Dave Herrera is involved with everything we do and Don Griglack had final say on all aspects of the race. We had a lot of help from non-board members also. My wife, Jeanne, gathered all the prizes, which were very popular at the parties. Katie and NOYC did an excellent job of hosting the pre- and post- race parties. Casey Grimm handled all aspects of the T-Shirts. Bill Fields and Nat Belloni gave their time to serve as actual race day committee. Nat, as always, produced a fine array of trophies. Can I have more gratitude for Bob Maher and his Second Cup for race committee boat. Bob has done so much for racing in New Orleans, this year, for all clubs on all levels, than anyone. Charlie Erickson and his North shore fleet boosted our numbers (and also relieved us of trophies), which added to the overall success of the race. My last comment would be to acknowledge its complexity. I was fortunate to have many persons chip in to stage the event. I quickly developed a great deal of appreciation for what Rob Grisoli has done in past years virtually on his own. Without his guidance, I m sure some pieces of the puzzle would have been missing. Our next general membership meeting is Wednesday, November 29, 7:00 PM, at the NOYC bar. It s important because it s election night for our 2007 officers. Our racing returns Sunday, November 12, 19; and December 3. See you on the water! John Winters, Commodore Corinthian Sailing Association C/O Dave Herrera P.O.
