STORM RIDERS CHAPTER, OKLAHOMA TERRITORY H.O.G. June 2015 These Storm Riders recently visited the Seaba Station Motorcycle Museum on HWY 66 during an overnight ride to Hard Rock Casino in Tulsa. 1

By Rick Marinelli, Director Hello Storm Riders. While I am sitting here writing this is 62 degrees outside and it s raining. I want to go for a ride. So this sucks! On Sunday, April 26th, we had 21 bikes for a ride to Fontana's Italian Restaurant. If you were at the March chapter meeting, you heard the announcement of our new policy for the number of bikes on our rides. When the number of bikes reaches 20, we split into two groups. This is for our safety. I would like some feedback on how it went from the those of you that attended. It is my goal to make our rides as safe as possible while making fun for everyone. So please me, call me, or grab me at the meeting and let me know how it went. Also tell me if you think we could do anything else to make our rides as safe as possible. Our first hamburger and hotdog cookout was at the April 24th bike night. We made $175, which was not too bad considering the weather. We will be cooking again July 3rd. If you would like to help let me know. We have a lot of rides and activities coming up, so there should be something for everyone. Come on out and ride with best chapter in the United States: Storm Riders Chapter Oklahoma Territory, Sponsored by the best dealership in the United States, Fort Thunder Harley Davidson. Until we ride or I see you somewhere, keep the rubber side down, have fun and be safe out there. 4 Dinner Ride to Fontana s, April 26 This ride was originally scheduled for Feb. 15, and was postponed due to the chance of snowy weather. We had wonderful weather this time around, with 28 people on 21 bikes. We met at the OnCue, and since we had twenty-one bikes, we split into two groups. We rode the superslab from I-35 to I- 240 out to Douglas to miss the stoplights on each mile. From there, we went over to Post Road, south around part of Draper Drive to SE 104, and east to Choctaw Road. My group left first, and I had a blonde (fake blonde, of course) moment and turned early on Westminster Road, which is a quarter mile north of SE 104. This took my group straight north to SE 89, where we turned east and headed the right direction, while the second group, lead by my husband Gary, did it the correct way. I was frustrated with myself, but figured I knew the basics of the roads out east, and it would be alright. It wasn t too far off the original route, but far enough that Group 1 ended up being behind Group 2! We took Choctaw Road south to Franklin Road, which has some nice hills and big houses to see along the way. At Porter, we went back to the north, and then west on Broadway all the way back into Moore. We skirted the traffic on 19 th by going up Tower Drive to 4 th, and over to Santa Fe, and finally on 12 th street into the parking lot of the destination. Group 1 (formerly Group 2) gave me a good-natured ribbing, and if the Foo-Pah award was active, I m sure I d be nominated. So, some of us rode 40 miles and the others rode 42-ish miles. 4

Safety Briefs by Lindell Smith, Safety Officer Hello Storm Riders. Hope everyone is high and dry. As I write this article, we have broken several rainfall records for the OKC area and many others statewide. I know we needed the rain and are blessed to get it, but enough is enough. As Storm Riders we want to ride, and I believe all of us are ready for sunshine and blue skies. The water has wreaked havoc on our roads, so we must be even more alert about road surface conditions. Can you say potholes? Wow, there are many large and deep ones, even sections of roads washing out, so be watchful. As Bear has mentioned in our weekly activities report, if you see a pothole in the OKC area, you can text the location to OKC (652) or call It should be patched within a few days. Also there is lots of sand, silt and other debris on the roadways. So stay alert always SEE (Search, Evaluate and Execute) seconds down the road ahead of you. In every motorcycle safety class I have attended, we are taught aggressive maneuvers, which are proper braking and swerving. These two maneuvers executed properly can save your life. They require practice, which can easily be done in an empty parking lot, so get out with your friends and do it, at least monthly. Proper use of your brakes, both front and rear, will stop you much quicker and in a shorter distance than just using your rear brake. With the conditions of our roads now and the distracted drivers, we can use these skills daily. Just as a reminder, the Annual Rooster Ride is just around the corner, so get those bikes checked out. Do your T-CLOCS inspection, check all critical fasteners, and go over them with a fine-tooth comb. Check out your riding gear, rainsuits, gloves, boots, helmets, jackets and whatever else you're taking along to make sure they are serviceable. If you're new to traveling on your bike, you can go to the National HOG web site, then click on the Owners menu. Now click on the Plan Your Ride and finally the Road Trip Tips. In here, is a great article titled What To Pack. good information from experienced riders. This is a good read and provides great ideas for packing and a useful checklist. And don't forget your ICE information, insurance cards, extended warranty cards, and make sure your driver's license and tag is up to date. Hope to see you on the road soon. And as always. Ride Safe, Ride often and Repeat. PS- I have invited one of our Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troopers to speak at the June Chapter Meeting. Motorcycle trailer for sale $500. Has LED tail light and H-D signal lights. Dry weight 100 lbs. Trailer hitch, sold separately. Also have several accessories for 1990 to 2003 ultra classic-all in good condition. Call Al Hudson or Thanks to Chuck Wheeler and Larry Clymer for cooking at Fort Thunder Bike Night. We made $175 in tips. Next chapter cookout is July

Dinner Ride to Rooster s, Hennessey We met for our ride to Rooster s at the On Cue, and had 24 people on 22 bikes. We initially split into two groups so we could more safely get out of Oklahoma City. I led the first group, with Jerry Hines as my sweep, and my wife, Lynn, led the second group, with Linda Webster as her sweep. The weather was really nice, and a few members were seen applying sunscreen! We headed west, going south of the city of Mustang to avoid all those stop lights, and eventually got back on Hwy 152 to go to Union City. There we waited on the second group, and all continued as one larger group as there was not much traffic on the two lane roads to Hennessey. We went further west to Cogar, turning north and rode through Hinton, where we had a short rest break at the Love s on I-40. We connected with Hwy 8 to Hwy 281, which was a nice stretch of four lane. We went through Watonga and Okeene, and our final leg was east on Hwy 51 into Hennessey. It was no surprise that the rivers and ponds were full to the brim and the fields were nice & green. We did potholes and lots of animals, both dead and alive, on the roadway. By Gary Cavin Road Captain have to watch for The staff at the restaurant seated us immediately in the back, and got our drinks out pretty quickly. In addition to the whole, half, or quarter fried chicken, they had a few other items to choose from. The food was all fresh out of the fryer, which is just what you want at this type of place. The chicken & okra I had was very good. I hope everyone enjoyed both the ride (146 miles one way) and the food! 6

Hole in the Wall Gang Ride Ralston Corner Café, May When the sun finally made an appearance, Storm Riders were ready to take advantage of the one and only dry day in recent history to take a nice scenic midweek ride to Ralston and Stillwater. Agreeing ahead of time to get out of town quickly, we went up I-35 to I-240/40 and continued east, I told everyone it was about 130 miles, so when 130 miles with dessert! And every meal came Because of my miscalculation, I was riding on fumes when we got to town, and had to get a couple gallons at the co-op. The other 5-gallon tanks soldiered on to Pawnee, where we all filled up with high octane. From there, it was off to Stillwater for a quick photo shoot at Eskimo Joe s, and a pit-and -passport stop at Forman s. It was 4 o clock by this time and we headed straight to I-35 for the fastest way home. Thanks to Stan Kilmer and Linda Webster for watching my back. Great fun with great peeps, and probably for the first time EVER, I wore a white T-shirt and didn t spill anything on it! came and went, and we were still 25 miles away, I blamed it on the dastardly Mapquest. Of course, when I got home and refigured, the program betrayed me and I have to admit to operator error. On the Hominy/Ralston leg, a motorcyclist from the opposite direction waved happily at us, and before we knew it, Donna Hingtgen had turned around and followed us to Ralston, where we were welcomed with open arms and great food at the Ralston Corner Café. The next mid-week ride is scheduled Wednesday, June 10, to the Soda Fountain Eatery in Anadarko. We ll ride miles to get there, to get home. Meet at the Fort at 9:30, leave at

Leather and Lace Hello All! We had a fantastic turn out for the LOH overnighter to Tulsa. We even had a couple of riders that came along even though they didn't intend to stay the night. opening of their new building), and then to the hotel. The only bummer was that the cover was still on the pool, but the Hard Rock offered Thanks to Darrell Howard for riding along and to Jerry and Georgia Hines for riding sweep. Bear planned a terrific route that took us to the Motorcycle Museum outside of Warwick, lunch at Rock Cafe in Stroud, Route 66 Harley- Davidson (we caught the grand enough to keep us occupied. We dined at the diner inside the casino (the fork and knife Reuben was delicious and the macaroni and cheese is a definite Must-do) and then split up to enjoy our own vices. Several people played the slots while Bear and I wandered around and checked out the dark, so most of the riders branched off to avoid the city. We got a few sprinkles, but nothing to worry about. I'm not sure what we'll be doing next year, but stay tuned for cool rock and roll memorabilia. Sunday brought breakfast and a ride back toward Oklahoma City. The sky started to look more rides this season to include a ride to the Pink Pistol this fall! Stay safe and I'll see you on the road! 8
