Lightning kills, on average, 58 people each year. At the DACC, we will monitor the weather, and, when severe storms are in the area and thunder is heard, the lifeguard and DACC staff will clear the swimming pool area. Twenty minutes without thunder must pass before swimmers will be permitted to return to the pool area. Adults are asked to assist the lifeguard in helping to clear the pool area. 2 Please accept our thanks for helping to facilitate this very important safety measure.

4 A Community Gift Teri MacBride, Regional Community Relations Director of PPL Service Corp, presents Jean Knouse, with the third installment of a $21,000 three-year pledge from PPL. During these three years, this gift has helped to fund the gymnasium renovation, and will, this year, assist in planning and construction of the new family locker room. Everyone in the community joins me in thanking PPL for this threeyear gift which has and will contribute to our ability to make changes and improvements at our community center. We are very appreciative of PPL s support and their generosity. Jean Knouse 4 DACC On the Road in Ireland On April 19th, 20 intrepid DACC travelers left the Philadelphia Airport for Ireland. Ten days later, we all returned (whew!), having had one of Photo: Jean Knouse the most wonderful experiences of our lives. I am not known for my photography, but this picture shows how easy it was to take a breathtaking shot of one of the thousands of castles in Ireland. The DACC earned more than $2,000 because 20 happy travelers traveled to Ireland. In Sept/Oct 2016, we re traveling to Italy. Please consider joining us. We intend to have a wonderful time and we will visit Rome, Florence, and Venice. See page 14.

6 Start Smart Lacrosse Start Smart Lacrosse prepares children and their parents for organized lacrosse without the threat of competition or the fear of getting hurt. The equipment is age-appropriate and is from ST. It is used in teaching shooting, passing, catching, cradling, stick handling and running and agility. The $85 Fee includes a participant's manual, 1 ST Lacrosse Stick, 1 ST Lacrosse Ball, and four cones. 6 August 3,4,5 and 10,11,12 at 6:30 PM Ready, Set, Run Ready, Set, Run! is a 12-week characterbuilding running YOUTH RUNNING PROGRAM program that trains kids ages 8-13 to participate in a 5K run. This curriculum-based program equips kids with the physical training and goal-setting mentality needed to accomplish their running goals. Issues like enhancing confidence and selfesteem, respecting authority, dealing with peer pressure and fueling their bodies through proper nutrition are covered during the 12-week session. Above all, kids have a blast seeing what they are capable of achieving! This program, which begins Mon., Aug. 3 at 6:00pm, will be taught by a team of coaches. The fee to join is $20, but if your child completes the course, he/she may register to run the DACC 5K for Free (including the T-shirt). Coming to the DACC in August for Kids and Adults Pickleball!!! Pickleball was invented in 1965 on Bainbridge Island, a short ferry ride from Seattle, WA. Three dads whose kids were bored with their usual summertime activities are credited for creating the game. Pickleball has evolved from original handmade equipment and simple rules into a popular sport throughout the US and Canada. At the DACC, Pickleball will be played in the gym. Mrs. Knouse thinks she may have found her sport!

10 DACC Learn-to-Swim Program The Peters Family Natatorium SWIM LESSON GOALS #1: Safety in and around the water #2: Proficiency in lap swimming #3: FUN!! At the end of the 2015 swim lesson season, swimmers will have the opportunity to accept the challenge of the DACC's Swim Lesson Exit Test. Each swimmer will be required to confidently demonstrate these skills: 1. enter deep water fully clothed (bathing suit, T-shirt, shorts, and sneakers) 2. remove all clothing except bathing suit 3. float for ten (10) minutes 4. swim six lengths of the pool: two lengths must be front crawl with rhythmic breathing and one lap of back stroke. The other three laps are the swimmer's choice of stroke. Swimmers who pass the test receive a shirt and medal. Each swimmer's accomplishment will be recognized at the reception following the testing. The DACC Learn-to Swim Levels Intro to Swimming: This class is for children who are at least three years old. Skills to be learned include paddling with hands, proper kicking, slipping into and climbing out of the water, submersing head, and floating. Level I: Skills at Level I include jumping into the water, paddling and reaching, floating for 10 seconds without a belt, and demonstrating the elementary backstroke and breast stroke (arms only). Level II: Belts are not encouraged at this level. Skills learned at Level II include the elementary backstroke, traditional backstroke, and rhythmic breathing for the American crawl. Also at this level, the basics of jumping and diving are taught and swimmers learn to jump into deep water, push off the bottom and then push to the top (a very important skill). Swimmers work on floating for longer periods of time. Level III: Swimmers will work on refining the backstroke, elementary backstroke, American crawl, and breaststroke. Diving, treading water, and jumping in and pushing off the bottom to a floating position are emphasized. Students begin to work on developing endurance. Level IV and Stroke Clinic: Stroke refinement and technique are the primary lessons at this level. Swimmers begin endurance work. 10
