2 MWC Regular-Season Champions ( ) - MWC Tournament Champions ( ) 2007 MWC Coach of the Year KATHERINE MERTZ HEAD COACH FOURTH SEASON 98 NC STATE Katherine Mertz has made a tremendous impact on the UNLV soccer program in her three years at the helm as she has led the Rebels to three straight Mountain West Conference championships (two tournament titles, one regular-season crown) and two NCAA Tournament appearances as well. This last season, Mertz guided the UNLV squad to a fourth straight conference championship title, as the Rebels claimed the MWC regular-season crown with a mark. The championship was won in dramatic fashion. With the title on the line in the regular-season finale, UNLV posted its first win over BYU, a 1-0 victory over the 24th-ranked Cougars. Despite the team s final mark, it was passed over for the NCAA Tournament, marking the first time in four years the program would not receive a bid. There were several highlights during the year, though. UNLV posted two wins over ranked teams during the season, as along with the BYU victory the Rebels upset No. 11 Washington State on Sept. 21 in Las Vegas. The Cougars were the highest ranked team UNLV has ever posted a win over. UNLV also tied the school record for shutouts in a season with 11, had a perfect home record for the first-time ever (7-0-3) and Mertz was honored with her first MWC Coach of the Year honor. Katie Carney was named to two All-West Region teams, and she was also the school s first-ever national academic team selection, while the Rebel squad received the NSCAA/Adidas Team Academic Award for exceptional academic performance. In Mertz s second year in 2006, the Rebels stayed near the.500 mark the entire season while breaking in 10 newcomers. The team started to come together near the end of the season, however, as shown by an overtime victory over No. 21 Pepperdine, the first win over a ranked team in UNLV history. The Rebels then entered the MWC tournament as the third seed, but played HEAD COACH PROFILE outstanding defense to win back-to-back penalty kick shootouts to earn the 2006 MWC title. The win also gave UNLV its third-straight NCAA appearance, while forward Tanya Roberts earned NSCAA All-West Region honors. Mertz had an impressive beginning to her head coaching career, as the Rebels began the 2005 season with a mark, but bounced back over the final 10 games to post a 7-3 record en route to setting a new school record for wins in a season at 13 ( overall record). UNLV easily broke several defensive team records in 2005, including goals allowed in a season with 14, and team goals against average at 0.59, which ranked 12th in the nation. Mertz guided the squad to three straight wins in the MWC Tournament, including two straight in overtime, to capture the 2005 MWC Tournament title with a 1-0 win over New Mexico, putting the Rebels into the NCAA Tournament for the second time in the eight-year history of the program. There they just narrowly missed making the second round, falling at 15th-ranked Cal State Fullerton 1-0 in overtime. Four Rebels would be named all-conference in her first year in Las Vegas, with one earning all-region honors as well. Mertz became the third head coach in UNLV women s soccer history in April of She came to Las Vegas from UCLA, where she was an assistant coach for the women s soccer program for five years. While on the Bruins staff, she helped guide them to three trips to the College Cup and two NCAA championship game appearances (2000, lost to North Carolina 2-1, 2004, lost to Notre Dame on penalty kicks). UCLA advanced to the NCAA third round all five of her years on the staff, while the Bruins also won three UNLV Women's Soccer Media Guide

6 MWC Regular-Season Champions ( ) - MWC Tournament Champions ( ) There s no doubt that after the first 10 years of the program s existence, UNLV has firmly established itself as one of the top women s soccer teams on the West Coast. Last year was just another example of the Rebels impact in the college soccer world, as they won their fourth-straight Mountain West Conference championship, claimed wins over two top-25 opponents, and just nearly missed earning the first top-25 ranking in school history when they were two spots out of the final coaches poll of the regular season. UNLV s goals coming into the year are to extend its conference championship streak to five years and to return to the NCAA Tournament after not receiving an at-large bid last year despite an 11-win season. There s no doubt that defensively the Rebels are ready to challenge for the title as best of the MWC once again, as UNLV brings back its entire starting defense. The huge question mark, however, is up front on the offensive side. While UNLV had an outstanding season defensively in 2007, allowing just 15 goals (second-lowest in school history) and just three at home, the Rebels were led in spirit by their five seniors. Katie Carney (the MWC Offensive Player of the Year and the school s third-leading career scorer), Jessica Destito, Ashly O Harrow, Erica Jensen, and Armani Rice formed the greatest class of players to ever graduate as they led the Rebels to four MWC titles, a record, and combined for 56.3% of the team s offense last year (13 goals, 14 assists, 30 points). How well fourth-year head coach Katherine Mertz and the rest of the Rebels fill that void on offense will be the key to the season as UNLV hopes for another MWC title. Mertz has planned for the losses on offense as early as last season, and thus a main focus of the spring was to develop the returning players into leaders for the team, both on and off the field. We are looking for players to step up and have the confidence to take control of the game, and to get the ball into the back of the net. Mertz is comforted by knowing that she returns every starter on defense, but after that every other spot is open. She expects the biggest challenge the Rebels will face this year will be in finding a set 11 players and getting the chemistry working between them. UNLV will not be lacking in numbers this season as 16 players return for the Rebels, including nine that have played in the NCAA Tournament. Fourteen newcomers will also join the squad this year, including several highly skilled players in the midfield and up front that will have very good shots at breaking into the starting lineup. Our defense turned in 11 shutouts last year, and we know we have a very solid group coming back. It is a great feeling to have so many returnees and have that much experience with your defense, said Mertz. With the confidence the coaching staff have in the defensive side of things, that allows them the luxury of concentrating more on the offense during the preseason. We have 30 players on this year s team, so we know we have a challenge in getting all of them on the same page, especially when dealing with 14 new players. With so much uncertain at this time as to who the starting midfielders and forwards will be, Mertz knows it could be a while before she knows what kind of team she has on her hands, and what its best strengths will be. We re going to play different systems and different lineups during the preseason and beginning of the season, and whatever lineup we finalize, will definitely influence and determine what we will play on offense. Mertz knows that as the defending champions, teams will be coming after them all year long. We just have to remember it s not easy, you have to work hard for everything you want. With replacing so many starters on the attack, we know there will be adjustments early, and how well we do that will be the key to our season. DEFENSE As was mentioned before, the strength of the team lies in the defensive backfield. Brie Kuhne returns for her senior year and was one of three defenders to start all 21 games, along with juniors Mack Neely and Dani Morin. Sophomore LaChere Anglin started 12 games as the fourth defender, with fellow classmates Rachel Reid (six starts) and Elizabeth Jacobs (three starts) also filling in at the fourth defender spot. Kuhne comes into her senior year having started 67 consecutive matches, and has earned first team all-conference honors the past two seasons, as she anchored a backline that allowed just 15 goals all season, including just three on the Rebels home field. Brie has shown a true sense of leadership among the defenders from the center back position, and is such a hard worker that she s very hard to beat, said Mertz REBEL OUTLOOK KUHNE Neely joins Kuhne as the other center back and has started 42 of her last 44 games. Mack is very vocal and a good leader, and her ability to organize the defense has been key to our success. Morin was in her second year as a starting back and did an outstanding job of shutting down the opponents top offensive threats. In fact, Morin was named to Soccer America s and Soccer Buzz s Team of the Week after helping the Rebels post back-to-back shutouts over No. 11 Washington State and Iowa State in the UNLV Rebel Classic. Anglin, meanwhile, returns on the outside as well and the pair give UNLV speed to help turn the attack. Reid and Jacobs both return to back up the defenders, while new to the team this year are four freshmen, Amanda Gilbert (Las Vegas), Ardrianna Guida (Henderson, Nev.), Jenna Larkin (Anaheim, Calif.), and Justine Sauder (San Clemente, Calif.). All four are athletic, good runners and will be a big addition to the Rebels depth at the position. GOALKEEPERS The Rebels return one of the top goalies in the conference in junior Alicia Lugo. After leading UNLV to the 2006 MWC Tournament title by not allowing a goal the entire tournament, Lugo turned in a record-setting performance in the net in She broke the school record for solo shutouts in a season with 10, and also posted a 0.67 GAA, as she gave up just 15 goals all season while making 101 saves. Her career GAA of 0.87 is now also the lowest in UNLV history. Though she stands just 5-5, she offsets that with her outstanding athletic ability and she is one of the best at reading defenses and is very reactive in the net. Three freshmen join the Rebels this season as backups to Lugo. Nicole Adams of Loveland, Colo., Amber Burgess of Las Vegas, and Alex Quesada of Livermore, Calif., will fill out the goalkeeper corps for UNLV. All possess good kicking games, while also being strong in the air. MIDFIELDERS Of last year s four starting midfielders, just one returns for 2008, junior Shannon Hughes, who will be a center mid this season. Two players that saw plenty of time last season and are among the favorites to start in the middle this year are junior Brianna Moore and sophomore Amanda Forrester. Hughes made 16 starts last season and scored a golden goal in a 1-0 win at TCU last year, while on the same road trip two days before at New Mexico, Moore accomplished the same feat, with a score in overtime in UNLV s UNLV Women's Soccer Media Guide

7 2008 REBEL OUTLOOK win. Moore also added another game winner in a 2-1 win over Arizona State, in which Forrester both scored and assisted on a goal. Moore finished the season third on the team with seven points (two goals, three assists), while Forrester had five points (two goals, one assist), and Hughes three (one goal, one assist). Mertz talks about the differences of the trio and how they compliment each other. Shannon is very good in the air and can change the point of the attack, while Brianna possesses a great final pass and reads the game well. Amanda is probably the best finisher of the three and also knows how to keep possession of the ball. One newcomers that could challenge for playing time in the center mid is Hailey Garrison of Henderson, Nev. Hailey is a very crafty player and will fight hard for us. Sophomore Sarah Naranjo is another that could play in the middle, as Mertz is looking at her as a holding midfielder. Playing on the outsides will be junior Jamie McCoy and freshmen Brittney Flores of Cypress, Calif. and Jamie Fratto of Novi, Mich. FORWARDS After graduating their top three forwards (Carney, Destito, Rice) this is the area that will see the most difference for the Rebels. In their place UNLV will offer two players that have shown their offensive skills in the past, but will be called upon as full-time starters for the first time in their career. Senior Haley Partridge and Niki Connolly share many player traits, most notably their fast pace on the field. Partridge is a very dangerous oneon-one player, and as the tallest player on the squad at 5-10, is a big offensive threat in the air. Connolly, meanwhile, is strong at holding possession and finding the end of crosses inside the box. She finished the season with three goals, which tied her for second on the team, while Partridge scored the lone goal in UNLV s 1-0 win over San Diego State. The one newcomer that could make the biggest impact for the Rebels will be playing up front, as Las Vegas native Ashleigh Shoughro joins UNLV after a stellar freshman season at San Diego. She earned All-WCC Freshman team honors in 2007 after scoring 12 points off five goals and two assists along with posting three game-winning goals. Ashleigh has very good pace and is a dangerous offensive threat. We expect her to fight for a starting spot during the preseason. Junior Kelly Labor will also be in the mix for a starting spot, while the returning forwards are a pair of sophomores: Elizabeth Jacobs, who could also see time as a defender, and Danielle O Neil. New to the group are Elizabeth Billington of Henderson, Chelsea Green of San Clemente, Three NCAA Tournament Appearances ( ) Calif., and Katherine Orellana of Downey, Calif. SCHEDULE This year s schedule for the Rebels is one of the most challenging in program history for one big reason, six of the first eight games will be away from Las Vegas. In fact, of the 19 regular-season games, only eight are scheduled for Peter Johann Memorial Field, the fewest home games UNLV has ever played. Another notable aspect of the non-conference schedule is the number of schools from the very competitive Big West. The Rebels will face five Big West schools this year, including a stretch of three straight against Pacific and at Cal State Northridge and Long Beach State. The season kicks off for the Rebels in Los Angeles, where UNLV will take on Loyola Marymount before staying in California to meet UC Irvine. It s a challenging schedule for us, playing on the road for three of the first four weekends, and all against tough competition, but it will be a good challenge and help bring the team closer together earlier, said Mertz. Following a home tournament against Nevada, Reno and Pacific on Aug in the UNLV Nike Classic, the Rebels go back to California for the CSU-Northridge and LBSU swing, before playing in another tournament in New Mexico, where they will meet Farleigh Dickinson and Milwaukee. The UNLV Rebel Classic on Sept. 19 and 21 features Robert Morris and Niagara, while the non-conference slate concludes at UC Riverside on Sept. 28. Having won four straight MWC titles gets you plenty of attention, and that s reflected in the TV schedule for the MWC. Of the three regular-season games that will be broadcast by The Mountain West Sports Network, two feature UNLV. The MWC season opener for the Rebels at San Diego State on Oct. 3 will be shown, as well as the regular-season finale in Las Vegas against New Mexico on Oct. 31. Following the SDSU game, UNLV has two more games on the road, at BYU and at Utah, before finally returning home to host its first league competition, Wyoming, on Oct. 16. By virtue of winning last year s regular season title, UNLV will host the 2008 MWC Tournament, the fourth time it will have been held in Las Vegas, on Nov The last time the Rebels were the host, they won the tournament with a 1-0 overtime win over New Mexico in Opening up the league schedule with three straight on the road is going to be very tough, but the bright spot is we play three of our last four at home, and we are also looking forward to hosting the tournament once again, said Mertz. It ll be a great opportunity for our players, and for the community to see some high-quality soccer games played. FORRESTER 21

20 MWC Regular-Season Champions ( ) - MWC Tournament Champions ( ) The 2007 Rebels entered the season with very high goals, as it was perhaps the most experienced group of returning players in the program s history. Nine starters were coming back from the 2006 team that shocked the college soccer world by winning the Mountain West Tournament despite entering the postseason with a losing record. That tournament title gave UNLV its third straight league championship and sent it to the NCAA Tournament for the third-straight year as well. Keeping alive both those streaks were goals coming into 2007 along with obtaining the program s first-ever top-25 ranking. The season started out on a very high note, with the Rebels posting wins over Cal State Fullerton and Arizona State to claim the UNLV adidas Classic title. That performance quickly brought UNLV national notice, as the team moved into the regional rankings while senior forward Katie Carney earned Soccer America Team of the Week honors, thanks to a two-goal, one assist weekend performance. Following a trip to Florida, where the Rebels lost a pair of hard-fought one-goal contests to UCF and top-25 South Carolina, the team returned back to the West Coast, where it proceeded to go on a five-game unbeaten streak (two wins and three ties). The highlight of the run was a 1-0 overtime upset of 11th-ranked Washington State. Freshman forward Kristen Shim scored the lone goal of the game to give UNLV its second-ever win over a top-25 team, and the Cougars were the highest-ranked team ever defeated by the Rebels. The win over Washington State was the first game of the UNLV Rebel Classic, which saw UNLV tie Iowa State 0-0 in double-overtime in the second contest. The back-to-back shutouts earned sophomore defender Dani Morin national weekly honors from both Soccer America and Soccer Buzz. The unbeaten streak also featured an impressive 1-0 win at Pepperdine on Sept. 14. Key to the Rebels play was their defense during that stretch, as the team allowed one goal, at UC Santa Barbara, while recording shutouts in the other four contests. The middle of the season was not kind to UNLV, as it suffered through a four-game scoreless streak. While the defense held up in three of the games (in addition to the Iowa State game, UNLV also 2007 YEAR-IN-REVIEW played Pacific and Portland State to 0-0 double-overtime ties), a 3-0 loss to Nevada, Reno could have been a big setback entering the MWC season. However, UNLV would finally get the offense on track by blistering Utah Valley State in a 5-0 win in the last tune-up before beginning league play. That was a big wake up call for the Rebel offense, as following the fourgame scoreless streak, UNLV scored at least one goal in nine of the final 10 games of the year, including five multiple-goal contests. The conference season started off with a rematch of the 2006 MWC championship game, with UNLV and Utah squaring off in Las Vegas in a regionally televised contest. Just like in 2006, this one ended in a tie, but twice UNLV was able to counter Utah goals with a tally of their own, which resulted in the final 2-2 score. The confidence gained from the game against the Utes was obvious in the play over the conference schedule, as the Rebels posted four-straight wins over league foes, three by just one goal, and two on a golden goal in overtime. Four different Rebels scored game-winners during that stretch, while UNLV allowed just one shot to hit the back of the net on the way to the top of the MWC standings. The win streak started at home over San Diego with a 1-0 victory off a goal from junior Haley Partridge. This was the second time Partridge had sunk the Aztecs hopes for a win, as she scored a golden goal over SDSU in the semifinals of the 2005 MWC Tournament in Las Vegas. UNLV then took off for a tough two-game road trip at New Mexico and at TCU. Both games came down to the wire, but the Rebels pulled off golden goals in both games, with junior Brianne Moore scoring to top New Mexico 2-1 on Oct. 19, while classmate Shannon Hughes goal was the lone score of the game in a 1-0 win over TCU on Oct. 21. Air Force put up a strong fight in Las Vegas on Oct. 26, but UNLV claimed its fourth-straight win with a 2-0 victory. The Rebels then could have clinched the regular-season title with a win at Wyoming, but were upset by the Cowgirls for the second straight season, this time a 1-0 loss in Laramie on Oct. 28. Vegas against No. 24 BYU on That set up a match in Las the Rebels Senior Night, with the regular-season championship on the line, as the winner of the night s contest would claim the MWC title. History was against the Rebels, as UNLV had UNLV Women's Soccer Media Guide

21 2007 YEAR-IN-REVIEW CARNEY Three NCAA Tournament Appearances ( ) never defeated the Cougars in 11 previous meetings (0-10-1). This time UNLV would not be 2007 Rebel denied, and in the second overtime, Carney stole a pass Honors & Awards from the goalkeeper and sent a blast to the back of the NSCAA All-West Region net for a 1-0 victory. That score not Third Team only marked the second time Carney had Katie Carney won the Rebels a MWC championship, as she scored the golden goal in the 2005 MWC Tournament, but it Soccer Buzz All-West Region was also the 10th-game-winning goal of her career, which set a new school record. Third Team Sophomore goalkeeper Alicia Lugo was just Katie Carney as impressive in the win, as she came up with 10 saves while facing 16 shots s to post her 10th Mountain West Conference shutout of the season, also a new team record. Co-Offensive Player of the Year For her performance, she was named to both Soccer America and Soccer Buzz Team of the Katie Carney Week. The win also marked the second win over Mountain West Conference a ranked team in the same season, son the first time Coach of the Year that s happened in UNLV history. The team was getting national attention as well, as it achieved its Katherine Mertz highest-ever regional ranking at No. 8 (NSCAA), the Rebels was also just two spots away from being All-Mountain West Conference ranked for the first-time ever in the NSCAA Top-25 First Team rankings. Katie Carney Erica Jensen As the top seed in the MWC Tournament, the Rebels had a bye in the first round and then faced Utah in the Brie Kuhnes semifinals. Senior Jessica Destito put the team on her Second Team back as she scored the first two goals of the game to Jessica Destito lead UNLV to a 2-1 victory over the Utes, sending the Rebels to the championship game for the third-straight year. Tournament host BYU would be the opponent, and All-MWC Tournament the home field advantage was too much for UNLV this Jessica Destito Brie Kuhne time, as it fell 2-1 in the title game. Alicia Lugo Despite having won its second MWC regular-season title in school history, an mark, and two wins over top-25 competition, the Rebels found themselves left out MWC Players of the Week of the NCAA tournament t for the first ttime in four years. Offense Katie Carney - Sept. 3 Katie Carney - Nov. 5 Defense Alicia Lugo - Sept. 3 Dani Morin - Sept. 24 Alicia Lugo - Nov. 5 However, despite the huge disappointment in that setback, UNLV knew it had turned in one of the most outstanding seasons in the school s history, and the senior class of Carney, Destito, Erica Jensen, Ashly O Harrow, and Armani Rice left Las Vegas having turned the Rebels into one of the top soccer programs on the West Coast. Carney, Destito, and O Harrow also left another legacy at the school, as they became the first-ever athletes at UNLV to play for four MWC conference championship teams. Several Rebels were honored for their success during the year, beginning with Carney, who posted 10 of her 23 points in league play and was named Co-Offensive Player of the Year. Katherine Mertz meanwhile was named MWC Coach of the Year for leading the Rebels to a conference mark after being picked to finish third in the preseason poll. Carney was named first-team along with Jensen and junior defender Brie Kuhne while Destito was a second-team selection. The honors didn t stop with the MWC as Carney became the first Rebel to be named All-Region (third team) by both NSCAA and Soccer Buzz. Carney, who was named academic all-district for the second straight year, also was selected to the NSCAA Scholar All-America Third Team, the first Rebel to earn national team honors. She wasn t the only UNLV player to have academic success, as in another program first, the Rebels received NSCAA/Adidas Team Academic Award for exceptional academic performance in Other highlights for the season included the Rebels going undefeated at home for the first time in school history (7-0-3). Much of that was thanks to the defensive work of the team, which only gave up three goals at home all season on Peter Johann Memorial Field. The team s 11 shutouts tied the school record, while the 15 goals allowed were the second-lowest allowed in the 10-year history of the program. Carney also set a new career assist record with 19 after posting seven in 2007, which tied her single-season record that she first set back in Also, Carney and O Harrow both broke the UNLV record for most career appearances at 86 matches. 28 MWC Regular-Season Champions ( ) - MWC Tournament Champions ( ) COMMISSIONER CRAIG THOMPSON The athletic season marks the 10th year the Mountain West Conference will be under the direction of Commissioner Craig Thompson. Since the Mountain West Conference opened its doors on January 4, 1999, Thompson has been committed to excellence in intercollegiate athletics, while promoting the academic missions of its member mber institutions. i tu tion He has been instrumental in negotiating nearly $230 million in television revenue, directed the league through expansion and has been an innovator in the postseason bowl structure. His leadership and vision also helped the conference enhance its television revenue and exposure through revolutionary agreements with CBS College Sports Network (formerly CSTV) and Comcast to become the first major collegiate athletic conference to launch a dedicated sports channel featuring exclusive programming. THE MOUNTAIN WEST MOUNTAIN WEST QUICK FACTS Founded: 1998 Commisioner: Craig Thompson Mailing Address: Gleneagle Drive, Suite 200 Colorado Springs, Colo Phone: (719) Fax: (719) Soccer Contact: Becky Motchan Office Phone: (719) Cell Phone: (314) Prior to his current role, Thompson served as the commissioner of the Sun Belt Conference for nearly eight years and as the only commissioner of the American South Conference prior to the merger of the two leagues in Thompson graduated from the University of Minnesota with an undergraduate degree in journalism. He and his wife, Carla, have a son, Ted, and a daughter, Emma. BIRTH OF A CONFERENCE The Mountain West Conference was conceived on May 26, 1998, when the presidents of eight institutions - Air Force, BYU, Colorado State, New Mexico, San Diego State, UNLV, Utah and Wyoming - decided to form a new NCAA Division I-A intercollegiate athletic conference. TCU began its first year of competition in , completing the membership in the MWC as it stands today. THIS IS THE MOUNTAIN WEST From its inception in 1999, the Mountain West Conference has been committed to excellence in intercollegiate athletics while promoting the academic missions of its member institutions. As the league celebrates its 10th anniversary in , the MWC continues to cultivate opportunities for student-athletes to compete at the highest level. The Colorado Springs-based league is noted for its geographic diversity. Some of the most beautiful terrain and landscapes in the nation can be found within Mountain West boundaries, including the majestic Rocky Mountain range, which borders four MWC schools (Utah, BYU, Air Force and Colorado State). The high plains of Wyoming (elevation 7,220 feet the highest Division I campus in the nation) contrast with the desert city of Las Vegas (the fastest growing metropolitan area in the West) and the Pacific Ocean locale of San Diego State. The southwestern flavor of New Mexico complements the western heritage and culture of Fort Worth, Texas, home of the MWC s newest member, TCU. ACHIEVEMENTS MWC members have participated in 31 bowl games in nine years with eight of the nine schools going to at least one postseason event. The MWC has earned 39 postseason bids in men s basketball, including 20 NCAA Tournament appearances, while women s basketball has tallied 24 NCAA bids, four Sweet 16 appearances and one Elite Eight berth. The MWC has sent at least 30 teams to NCAA postseason events each of the past nine years while capturing seven NCAA championships during that span. YEAR IN REVIEW The campaign provided several notable moments for Mountain West teams and individuals. The MWC sent a record five teams to bowl games and posted a 4-1 mark in those contests to capture the Bowl Challenge Cup for the second time in four years. UNLV captured the MWC men s basketball Tournament title and earned the league s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season, advancing past the first round for the second straight year. It marked the eighth time in the last nine years the MWC has sent multiple teams to the NCAA Tournament. The league sent four teams to the postseason in women s basketball, including three to the NCAA Tournament. First-time MWC regular-season champion UNLV led a trio of women s volleyball teams into the NCAA Tournament, marking the eighth time in nine years the league has sent at least three squads into postseason play. No less than 36 MWC student-athletes earned All-America honors at the NCAA indoor and outdoors track and field championships. BYU and UNLV represented the MWC in the NCAA Women s Swimming and Diving Championships, while BYU, TCU and UNLV provided participants on the men s side in NCAA postseason action. Four MWC men s and women s golf teams each were invited to the 2008 NCAA Regionals, with three teams advancing to the NCAA Championships. Multiple MWC women s tennis teams appeared in the NCAA Tournament for the seventh consecutive year with TCU and tourney champ UNLV qualifying in 2008 while TCU was the MWC entrant to the NCAAs on the men s side. The league sent BYU and SDSU to the NCAA Softball Tournament while the Frogs also represented the league for the third straight year in the NCAA Baseball Championship.
