Better Living Health and Community Services Community Programs are funded by special grant funding. In the absence of available funds Better Living will continue to provide programming with support of volunteers. Pole Walking and Chronic Conditions Tuesday, July 17, :00 am - 10:00 am Urban Poling aka Nordic walking is a growing form of physical activity & rehabilitation globally. Join us and learn how this form of fitness is changing lives for so many people living with chronic conditions from prevention as well as management side, but also for those who simply want to make the most of their walk simply by adding poles! Pre-registration required. Maximum 20 participants Label Reading Tuesday, November 6, :00 am - 10:00 am In this presentation, the participants will learn how to read and interpret the nutrition information provided on food labels, in order to make informed decisions about their food choices Pre-registration required. 3 Health & Wellness Tai Chi Instructor: Hua Gao Learn this ancient Chinese form of exercise at your own pace. Tai-Chi uses gentle flowing, century-old movements to relax and strengthen muscles. Tuesdays 10:15 am 11:15 am Mindful Moments Movement meditation with musical experiences Instructor: Anna Nieminen Discover and practice mindful breathing, body scanning/sensing and dynamic (active) meditation through mindful walking, stretching, swaying/flowing and other gentle modes of movement, all while exploring self awareness & expression through musical experiences including simple listening/appreciation exercises and music-making with both energizing and calming instruments. Mondays (July 9 December 10) Pole Walking Instructor: Cristina Luta This instructor led program is full body workout that combines cardio and resistance training. By using the specialty poles you learn how to walk more effectively and efficiently to aid in the burning of calories and strengthening of your body! Nordic Poles will be provided. Pre-registration required. Max 15 participants. Tuesdays Meet at 9:00 am 10:00 am Walking Group Walking is the number one physical activity in Canada. It is easy to do and can be done by people of all ages. Benefits includes improved asleep, reduced stress, increased energy, and helping you achieve or maintain a healthy weight. Walking is also lowers cholesterol, reduces the risk of diabetes and heart disease. Join us and start walking TODAY! Program subject to weather conditions. Fridays (until September 29) 9:00 am 10:00 am Falls Prevention Instructor: Jessica Chin-Yee (Fridays) Joanne Picot (Mondays) Falls are leading cause of seniors ending up with Injuries and needing to go to the hospital. Participants will be led through exercises for your balance, mobility, muscle strength and if you have a fear of falling. 2:00 pm 2:45 pm Mondays (July 9 December 10) 11:00 am 11:50 am Active Fitness Instructor: Jessica Chin-Yee Looking to get in shape? Enjoy our easy-to-follow Workout that will increase your energy and stamina. 1:00 pm - 1:45 pm Chinese Folk Dance Instructor: Yihua Liu Inspired by many regional dances in China, this Chinese Folk Dance is for everyone. Get the heart of folk dancing: joy, creativity, and vibrancy for all areas of life. Tuesdays (October 3 December 11) Chair Exercise Instructor: Joanne Picot This low-impact chair exercise class is suggested for Individuals with little fitness experience. This exercise will benefit your mind, body, and spirit. It s a great way to meet people and stay healthy and active! Mondays (July 9 December 10) 10:00 am 10:50 am Line Dance Multi Level Instructor: Susan Steckel Get your feet moving while having some fun and a great workout! Dances will use a variety of ballroom, Latin, and Contemporary music. The instructor will adjust the level depending on the experience of the participants. Tuesdays (July 3 September 25) 2:00 pm 3:00 pm Indian Dance Instructor: Munni Subhani Join this unintimidating and approachable class that will expose your inner creativity. This class is great for all levels and can help individuals reduce stress through tuning inwards and finding their moments of bliss within their dance flow. 9:15 am 10:15 am Group 1 10:30 am 11:30 am Group 2 BellyFit Instructor: Anna Nieminen Bellyfit classes are intelligently designed to give you the full body workout you need, the mental calm you deserve and the spiritual connection you crave. The goal of English conversation group is to provide you a learning environment to practice your English speaking and listening skills with daily life related practical topics which planned and facilitated by a group facilitator.
