2 GOV101 YOUR LOCAL GOVERNMENT INFORMATION STATION Vineyard City has elected officials and staff who work hard each day to assure that the City is running and developing smoothly and that your needs as a resident are being met. However, local government can sometimes be a bit of a mystery to those who aren t involved in it daily. So we ve created GOV101 to demystify it a bit. Every month, you can come here to find out more about what your local government does everyday to make Vineyard great! PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT Any time a utility company or construction group needs to work within the Public Right of Way they are required to apply for a Right of Way permit. Our goal with the permit is to: Ensure the proper safety measures are taken. The city requires that there be a traffic control plan submitted with the application. That plan must conform to current MUTCD standards (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices) Limit disturbance and inconvenience to surrounding residents. The goal is to get the work done as quickly as possible. Minimize disturbance to the surrounding infrastructure (ex: sidewalks, landscaping, asphalt, etc ). The Public Works Department would like the public to: ACKNOWLEDGE AND ABIDE BY CONSTRUCTION SIGNS Construction signs are there for the safety of the residents as well as the people who are working. BE AWARE OF CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT Never assume the operator knows you are there. Use caution when driving near construction equipment and signage. Never walk near construction sites or equipment. HAVE PATIENCE WHEN EXPERIENCING INCONVENIENCE DUE TO CONSTRUCTION Safety concerns should be reported to the public works department. If after hours, contact on-call number. VACANT AND UNDER CONSTRUCTION LOTS ARE PRIVATE PROPERTY These areas are very dangerous! Do not allow children or pets to play in these areas. 3 GENERAL PLAN WORKSHOP Vineyard City will be holding another General Plan Workshop on February 20 and 21 in the Council Chambers. This workshop will be based on getting feedback on the overall vision and the goals for each chapter of our General Plan. Each subdivision has a time slot to come to the city offices and give your comments. If you can t make it to your time slot, you are welcome to come anytime during the public workshop. Follow our Facebook event page for additional details. SHERIFF S DEPARTMENT The Utah County Sheriff s Department - Vineyard Division now has a Facebook page! Follow them here to see regular updates and news! Please report any suspicious activity to the Utah County Sheriff s Office at. COMMON CODE VIOLATIONS CAMPING TRAILERS AND RVs Have you ever been frustrated by crowded neighborhood streets? Did you know that Vineyard was planned in such a way that each unit has designated garage and/ or driveway parking spots for each single-family dwelling unit. Please, make sure your designated parking areas aren t taken up by camping trailers, RVs or other similar vehicles! Vineyard City Code requires camping trailers and RVs to be parked in side or rear yards and screened from front yards and streets by a fence in order to ensure designated parking spots are utilized for their intended use. (Vineyard Zoning Code ) In this way we can guarantee that no sidewalks will be obstructed by trailers (Vineyard Municipal Code ), and that streets are clear from unnecessary cars parked on the side of streets (Vineyard Municipal Code ). 4 VINEYARD HERITAGE CELEBRATION Our Summer Celebration has become our largest and most widely attended event. People from all over the county attend and the 2019 celebration will be no exception. This year we are combining the Summer Celebration with the annual Vineyard Heritage Day Commemoration to create one multi-day event to celebrate our 30-year anniversary! We plan to host a golf tournament, pioneer-era activities, bounce houses, vendor booths, fireworks display over Utah Lake, and many more exciting things. This will be an exciting event that you will definitely want to be a part of! Watch our social media and RSVP to our Facebook event for current updates and more details! 5 UPCOMING RECREATION PROGRAMS YOUTH SPRING SOCCER - REGISTER HERE Registration is open for our Youth Spring Soccer program! 3-Year old COED league 4 & 5-Year old COED league 6 & 7-Year old COED league 8 & 9-Year old COED league Season: April 27 - May 25 Wednesday Games (5:30pm - 8:30pm) Saturday Games (8:30am - 11:30am) 8-Game Season All games for all ages to be played at Vineyard s Grove Park. PICKLEBALL TOURNAMENT - REGISTER HERE Who s ready for a pickleball tournament?! Our Luck of the Volley tournament will take place in March at Vineyard Elementary. Registration is $30 per team. Teams must provide their own paddle, and only one teammate needs to complete registration. Register by February 15th and receive a tournament t-shirt! All details and division information can be found at the registration link. GOLD RUSH 5K - REGISTER HERE Our first Vineyard Gold Rush 5K is open for registration! There are cash prizes up for grabs, as well as a prize for beating the Leprechaun! Here s how you can win a prize! 1) Cross the finish line before the Leprechaun 2) Turn in coins upon finishing the race that you collected during the run 3) Win the dress up contest 4) Add your name to the lucky raffle bowl Remember to wear green!

6 HERITAGE COMMISSION CORNER SPORTS COMPETITION WAS A MAINSTAY FOR VINEYARD For as long as one can remember, basketball has been a very competitive and popular sport played by those living in Vineyard during the winter months. Early in the 20th Century, the Vineyard basketball team was known as the Swamp Angles and the Mud Hens, probably stemming from the agricultural environment in which the Vineyard team lived. Church basketball was very popular throughout the valley, with Vineyard competing with its archrivals from Lake View and the Windsor (Pleasant Grove) and Vermont wards. Some regular observers of the games between the Vineyard team and its opponents, referred to the encounters like the Israelites and the Egyptians coming face-to-face, in all their armor. It was not unusual to have more physical contact than what the game allowed, sometimes with tempers flaring. It seems the Vineyard teams had a reputation for being strong, aggressive and physical. Leonard Lenny Madsen coached the teams for more than 30 years and was the primary mover-and-shaker in seeing that high standards of commitment and dedication to the team(s) were set and achieved. The 3 decades he coached the Vineyard teams, they were considered among some of the most colorfully and best dressed among all the valley teams. 7 VINEYARD 2019 TRASH & RECYCLE CALENDAR Recycle Day Trash Day Holiday GUIDELINES TO ENSURE CONSISTENT SERVICE If a holiday (only those shown above on calendar) falls on a weekday, service will be delayed one day following the holiday. Recycle containers that have trash in them will NOT be dumped as recycling and called into the city. All containers MUST be placed outside by 7 a.m. Containers should be placed in the street with the wheels against the curb or within 2 feet of blacktop with the front of the container facing the street. The container must be placed 4 feet apart from other containers and 8 feet from mailboxes, poles, fences, trees, or parked vehicles for easy access. Please break down cardboard boxes.
