2 Page 2 of 7 Aquatic Programs There were 1529 participants in the water exercise classes, 2556 lap swimmers, whirlpool 1489 users and 2055 therapy pool swimmers Swim Teams The Masters Swim team continues to practice Monday, Wednesday & Saturday with consistent numbers Dolphins recreational team is practicing Monday, Wednesday & Fridays Swimming Lessons Swim lessons continue on Tuesday, Thursday & Saturdays October Events NMB High School practices concluded their high school season October 9th MB Christian School Practice concluded on October 2nd Dolphin Waterslide was open October 10 th MB Riptides rented the competition pool for swim meet on October hosting the IM for Breast Cancer Swim Meet Swim Lessons & Water Rescue Skills Training for Sunset Beach Fire Department Pumpkin Head Swim Meet hosted by NMB Dolphins Swim Team & AFC October 25 with 75 swimmers & coaches Replaced exterior window pane in pool area November Events: LGI Skills review class November 19 th 3 pm Dolphins Kids swim team M/W/F Masters Swim Team M/W/Sat Fitness Programs Land class participation: 2202 Class average: October 2013 Land class participation: 2622 Class average: Total orientations for the month: 22 Child Watch & Activity Program Averaged 6 participants in the morning program Total 162 visits Averaged 5 participants in the evening program Total 106 visits Gymnasium totaled 6 children Adult gym participation average was 22 with a total of 290 adults in the gym for the month After School in September averaging 25 kids. One birthday party for a Non-member
3 Page 3 of 7 Customer Service Total Tours: 76 Number of In-State Tours: 50 Number of Out-of-State Tours: 26 Recreation Athletics NMB Park and Sports Complex / Sports Tourism Tournaments/Events hosted in October o World Fastpitch Connection, (2 tournament, 18 teams) o Nations Baseball (7 teams) o YMCA Soccer (42 teams) o For the love of the game baseball (2 tournaments, 66 teams) The estimated economic impact of sports tourism events held in North Myrtle Beach is $734,869. Hosted the 1 st annual Paddle at the Beach Pickleball tournament at the J. Bryan Floyd Community Center. 56 players participated in the 2 day competition. Athletics Final sports registration numbers for the fall o Youth sports 694 participants (2013 = 434). An increase of 60%. o Adult sports 21 teams (approximately 300 participants). Zero teams in 2013 All-star football and soccer teams were selected by the coaches and will be competing in District tournaments in November The All-star District soccer tournament will be held on Saturday, Nov. 15 th at the NMB Park and Sports Complex (26 soccer teams) Youth basketball registration dates: o City Residents: Oct. 13 th o Non-City Residents: Oct. 27 th

Mary Templeton reported that the Eco Tots of Ocean Drive Elementary had their first meeting with the Turtle Patrol as guests. Julie Bell of Sea Oats is the new leader of the Eco Kids of Riverside Elementary. At the principal s request due to the reorganization of the school, the club will not begin meeting until January.
5 Page 5 of 7 Unfinished Business Between 175 and 200 volunteers collected more than 3,000 pounds of trash from the beaches, creeks, and marshes during the Beach Sweep of September 20. Keep NMB Beautiful was represented at the Irish/Italian Festival on September 27. Gregg displayed the new wind-proof poster display device that will be used at the booth in the future. Keep NMB Beautiful will have a booth at the Endless Summer Festival on October 25. Anne Hughes and Ginny Maynard will man the booth from 10 am until noon, Mary Templeton and another volunteer to be named will man from noon until 2 pm, and Dee Myers and Gerry Ferguson will man from 2 pm until 4 pm. The City Wide Cleanup is scheduled for November 1. Anything with the exception of medical waste and construction waste may be brought to the Sanitation Department area on 2 nd Avenue South from 9am until noon. Volunteers are needed to assist. New Business One hundred seventy-five trees will be planted at the NMB Park & Sports Complex on Tuesday, December 9, from 4 pm until 6 pm. Keep North Myrtle Beach Beautiful will provide food for the volunteers at the main picnic shelter. This will take the place of our December meeting. The Litter Control Association/Keep SC Beautiful conference will be held at the Avista on February The President and CEO of Keep America Beautiful will be one of the speakers at the conference. Cross Country North Myrtle beach High School held their regional Cross Country championships at the NMB Park & Sports Complex on Tuesday, October 21 st. 5 boys teams and 5 girls teams competed for the regional championship. Riverside Elementary has started a youth running club at the school and their first fun run was held at the NMB Park & Sports Complex on October 28 th. Over 100 students and parents participated in the fun run. Ocean Drive and Waterway Elementary have also started a running program and they will participate in the next fun run on Tuesday, December 9 th. The fun run will be held at the NMB Park & Sports Complex. Beach Services Weather for the month was ideal with only four significant weather days to report. Month to date revenues are up $16,612 or 51% compared to prior year. Year to date revenues are currently up $127,346 or 11% compared to prior year. Currently repairing umbrella and chairs and preparing our order for new umbrellas and chairs.
