AFL 1 st BGS defeated by St Kevin s Best BGS: Reynolds, Hipwell, Seager, LeGrice, Fisher, Butler,Tweedie, Branson Goals: Dick 2, Branson, Agius Three weeks ago we went out to Carey playing to go 3-1 and in second spot. Lost that, lost away to Haileybury and away to St. Kevin s. Three tough away trips. In two of those games, should ve won one, beaten fair And square by STKC. Clearly St Kevin s are the best side we have played. Quicker/athletic Physically powerful Played their ground really well (as expected). Their switch of play was elite. The game followed similar trends over the four quarters. BGS were brave and committed and failed to nail early opportunities with our entries. We cannot buy a mark inside forward 50 despite trying numerous structures and make ups. We have more than matched these sides for effort and forward entries but similar patterns emerge as they get out the back and goal against the trend of play. St Kevin s clearly won the last 5-7 minutes of each quarter give superior athleticism, fitness and of course some genuine quality of West and Mahoney. See what happens with us is that we hammer away from 0-15 min get no reward and no goals. That means the ball goes back to the centre and you get a chance to get a 1 min break instead of going again again and again. Hence we tire in last 7 min. At half time we had 9 players with 1 or less touches of the footy. You know I have never based my assessment of how many kicks did I get but sometimes we just have to go to the stats sheet for confirmation TOO MUCH LEFT TO TOO FEW. Hard anywhere let alone against those blokes. Can we get contributors in other areas then? 7 of those 9 laid 4 tackles between them. Look I appreciate that that was the hardest game against the best quality team some of you have very played against. I remind you it s not easy. I just hope the 10 s and 11 s for next year really self-reflect and look at the standards of fitness and prep required. The positives is that it s a great learning experience. Tremlett didn t have a great day (on the stats sheet) BUT laid 6 tackles in general play and 4 tackles inside 40m. It s a good example of contributing in other areas. Gives us something ng to work with!

It was great ( but not necessary ) that a young year 10 boy wrote to me last night and apologised to me and his teammates for his performance. He was hurt and it means something to him. So he s playing next week! Well done to a very young and inexperienced backline. AFL - 2 nd BGS defeated by St Kevin s Goals: M. Noske 2, M. Hanna, C. Moore, B. Pryor, M. James Best Players: J. Larkworthy, T. Mailing, F. Wood, T. Whitson, B. Pryor, J. Snowsill BGS played against St Kevin s on what was a beautiful day to play football. The boys started strong with their contested ball and tackling being a real feature early in the game. We missed a few opportunities in the 1 st quarter, but the signs were good as we were only down by 2 goals at quarter time. The second quarter was a different story. We weren t able to keep up our pressure and St Kevin s took advantage of that by kicking 6 or 7 goals in the quarter. It was always going to be tough to beat them from there. To the boys credit, they played a better second half. We were able to stop St Kevin s from blowing the game wide open as well as kick 4 last quarter goals to be rewarded for the effort they put in throughout the second half. The last quarter showed we are capable of playing some good football against strong opposition. As a group, our challenge is to sustain that effort and intensity for 4 quarters. J. Larkworthy was a standout for us. He played a fantastic game. T. Mailing has put together 2 or 3 good games playing in the ruck as well. The boys continue to train hard and work on what is needed to play good 2 nds Football. It s a great opportunity for the boys to get better. AFL 10A BGS defeated St Kevins Goals: Blamires (4), Sedgwick (2), Rohan (2), Sweet, Aloi, Perkins, Wood Best Players: Caldwell, Bortolussi, Aloi, Valcanis, Forbes, Galanopolous Outplay, outwit, outlast. These three words typified the 10A s last Saturday, who had their best game for the season by far. Tough around the contest, swift with the ball in hand and persistent all day ensured that the result fell our way, and proves that the team can beat anyone in the competition. From the outset, the game was destined to be a battle. Going goal for goal in the first half, both teams fought hard to gain the advantage. Whenever under siege the back six held their own, pressuring the St Kevin s forwards and clearing the danger. Our midfield fought

industriously all day when the ball was in dispute, and broke away with speed and poise once the ball was on the outside. Our forwards looked damaging when the entry was quick, and caused headaches for their defenders when playing in front and taking the game on. After half time and in particular the last quarter, the game opened up and we finished on a roll finishing six goals clear. The team should take plenty of positives from the game, with a 10 goal turnout since the last time we played St Kevin s proving the team is improving week by week. With Geelong College this week, the team should be very confident in getting the 4 points and continuing our winning streak to 5 games. AFL 9B BGS defeated Geelong College Best Players: Hill, Roberts, James, Fulton The Year 9B football team travelled down to Geelong on a cold, but sunny Saturday to play Geelong College. We started the first quarter very slowly, with Geelong College kicking the first three goals of the game, but thankfully we persevered and, after our coach, Sam, told us that the first quarter had been a wakeup call, we were then able to turn the game around. In the 2 nd and 3 rd quarters, we started to tackle more, and we attacked the ball harder. As the game went on, we played a lot better and managed to move the ball around the ground more effectively and more efficiently, and we were able to kick more goals, while managing to limit the amount of goals Geelong scored. After the slow start, we were winning at half time and three quarter time. We played strongly in the 4 th quarter, kicking four goals. Because of this, we managed to win by 36 points in the end. We played well overall, and hope we will be able to start stronger next week, and continue to play well for the rest of the season. AFL - 8A BGS defeated Xavier Goals: Hope 4, Bongiorno 3, Palillo 2, Perkins 2, McCluskey 2, Hoffman 1 Best Players: Hope, McCluskey, Palillo, Watters, Perkins, Bongiorno, Campigli, Mackenzie, Jarick, Draheim

The boys prepared to win with a basic plan: win the football, stay in the contest and kick the goal when it was your turn to do so. They have been waiting for this game for 5 weeks and were naturally super keen with their Warrior traits. To keep all of this adrenaline in check, they calmly identified aspects of their game from the Wizard and Care-Giver perspectives to ensure their heads and hearts were in the game too. Even when on the bench and in clear control by three quarter time, a steely reminder was needed for every single boy to remain focused. Our team targets of 12 goals per game and 7 goals from the midfield groups had not been met and we still had work to do. By the final siren, the boys had ticked off all of their KPI s and provided the spectators much joy with the BGS brand of footy. Where to next from here is the focus of our preparation this week. AFL - 8B BGS defeated Melbourne Grammar The Year 8B Football side fought a hard, well deserved first win of the season against MGS at the prestigious Crowther Oval. Early on, the boys showed class and composure, with the Mckenzie brothers at it again. Ryan was finding the ball a lot and Jackson was bashing through packs and surging the ball forward. James Hare, stepping up to play ruck for most of the game, dominated at the stoppages all day, won his own taps and was kicking truly into the forward 50 giving our team opportunities to score. It wasn't long until a cracking right-foot snap from a fair distance out by Charlie Heaton settled the Tonners to lead at quarter time. Our defence, with Damien Paino leading the way, were exceptional all day, and didn't let in a single goal. Xavier Hendy kicked two hard earned goals, which were well drummed out the back of the pack, with Aaron Mickelborough and Harry's Llewellyn also snagging one each. The boys responded from last week, lifted their selflessness, decision making and mental fitness to defend, and came out convincing winners with BGS and MGS AFL -7A BGS defeated Melbourne Grammar On a glorious morning for footy at the iconic Flack Park, the BGS Machine revved straight into gear from the bounce of the ball and never looked back. In dewy conditions, the hosts made ball handling look simple throughout the first half and by the main change were a handy five goals up. By game s end, 18 scoring shots to five told the tale as the BGS Chorus was sent hurtling over the rooftops of Port Melbourne for another year, following an impressive eight

goal win. The boys now sit with a 3-2 win/loss record and have not lost by more than 12 points. It s a case of onwards and upwards for the 7A juggernaut! AFL - 7B BGS defeated Xavier Best Players: Forbes, Aylward, Thomson, Foster, Paino, Keyte We enjoyed our first away game on a frosty morning at Xavier in Brighton. With the game starting and Xavier running low on numbers Jimmy Macnab and Chillers were happy to do the team thing and turn the top inside out. It was a good all-round team performance where the boys started to work with each other better, setting up around the forward line and locking the ball in, instead of all chasing the ball to score a goal. Forbes played on of the better games I have seen and was highlighted by giving off a near certain goal to one of the boys which shows the unselfish play we were trying to achieve. The team was thrown around, but I was very happy with how everyone played, especially when taken out of their comfort zone. BASKETBALL 1 ST BYE BASKETBALL 2 nd BGS 48 defeated Wesley 24 The seconds played Wesley on the weekend and with the help of Harrison, Ben and Mitch who came down from the firsts, we were able to secure a big win. We got off to a flying start in the first half scoring 31 points to Wesley s 12. The boys from the firsts really led the way with their good communication, game awareness and brought an extra spark of energy to the team. The second half the boys really wanted to focus on putting the pressure on Wesley by running a full court man on man which we had never done before. After we got into the groove we started to execute the defence more effectively and were able to take advantage of the oppositions poor decision making. The final scores finished as BGS 48 defeated Wesley 24. It was a terrific effort from all of the boys that played and I hope that we were able to learn a few things from the boys from the firsts who came down to help. BASKETBALL 3 rd BGS 20 defeated by Haileybury 48 On Saturday, the thirds Basketball came up against Haileybury in a toughly contested match. The first half saw a basket for basket exchange leaving the game in anyone s hands at half time. The first 8 minutes of half 2 saw that no team was able to add to their score keeping

both teams in high hopes for the victory! However, an unfortunate circumstance led to 3 BGS boys and 1 Haileybury boy being ejected from the game. Once this happened, the game opened up and Haileybury came out on top. Major signs of improvement continuing to arise from all of the boys as the year progresses. BASKETBALL 9/10A BYE BASKETBALL 9/10C RED BGS 7 defeated by Wesley College 39 It was a sunny day, but our feelings are completely the opposite of being sunny. Boys are warming up, getting ready for the battle ahead. Upon a blow from referee's whistle, the match has started. On St Kevin's team, they have got 9 players, every one of them much taller than our 7 players (Eddie injured from the last match), which makes it harder for us to get the rebound. However, in the first half, our team defended very well, but our offense and rebound weren't as good as we expected. After our discussion with the coach at the midmatch break, we were a bit more aware of what we needed to do. We performed much better in the second half of the match with Charles scoring 7 points with his excellence jump shots. Even though we lost this match, but we found out what we need to improve on our next match. PS. Thanks to Brad Hickey for coaching as Mrs Piva had lost her voice. BASKETBALL 8B BGS 35 defeated Caulfield Grammar 13 After coming off two convincing road wins, the 8Bs were back home for round 5 against Caulfield Grammar School. It was a cold 830 start for the boys however, that didn't seem to be an issue as all the boys arrived half an hour early before tip-off. This allowed us to get in a great warm-up, which showed from the jump. The BGS boys raced off to a quick lead and never looked back. Charlie Morgan dominated the game both through his scoring and playmaking ability. Ethan Gendala was a pest on the defensive end; it seemed his hand got to every pass, the defence was throwing. Jimmy Long was able to create great position on the offensive end leading to numerous buckets. Tom Galinas dominated the rebounds and Jay Liu defence and ability to run in the fast break resulted in a barrage of points for the team. In the end, BGS won comfortably by over 20 points and has now moved to a 5-0 record for the season.

BASKETBALL - 7A BGS 36 defeated St. Kevins 26 Saturday morning saw the Year 7A team take on a fast and determined St. Kevins side, and whilst we managed to jump out of the gates early, it wasn t long until St. Kevins pegged back an early lead and the match would continue to be a see-sawing affair from then on in. Jack Giblin and Connor Harding applied tremendous pressure up the court early on, and the midcourt help from Nick McCluskey saw the boys create some great turnovers and reap the rewards at the offensive end. The addition of Mack Anderson into the team for the first time was one that payed off early, with his great defensive pressure and countless rebounds. The boys went into half time with a narrow lead, but St. Kevins weren t going to give up without a fight in the second half. Despite Mitch Terry being in foul trouble, he was still able to provide great defensive pressure and hit up several of his teammates on fast break opportunities. Despite the boys facing a zone defence all game, they still managed to move the ball around and share the points amongst them, and Campbell Yeo s fantastic screen and rolls allowed his teammates to get open easily and score, and maintain their slight lead right up to the final siren, taking out a 10 point win. Whilst the boys have several things to work on at training this week, it was fantastic to see them stick together through a tough game and come out with the win, despite several things going against them. Congratulations to the boys on another great win. BASKETBALL 7C BGS 46 defeated Carey 6 This week the 7C's faced off against Carey Grammar School, it was a great game for the boys and we welcomed a new addition to the team in William Sun. The boys got off to a fantastic start with excellent defence and rebounding at both ends of the court leading to quick baskets. Our defence was once again unbeatable as Carey struggled to get the ball past half way. Credit to all the boys for once again blowing me away with their desperation and effort on defence. Our fast break offence was great with the majority of our points in the first half coming off the back of steels; however, when the play was slowed down we struggled to score as we were crowding the key. The second half our offence was much better as we spaced the floor and gave ourselves more opportunity to practice an offence where we slow the play down. Our offence was very impressive, as we moved the ball around very fast and scored at will, Kevin Liao displaying spectacular shooting scoring two three-point shots in a row. Our defence once again improved in the second half as we only allowed Carey 2 points and a total of 6 for the game. Final scores BGS 46 defeated Carey 6.

Great work everyone for a fantastic win, make sure we all get to training this week so we can keep improving and get better! BASKETBALL 7D BYE HOCKEY 1 st BYE HOCKEY 2 ND BGS 1 defeated by Scotch College 2 Best players: Sam Chao, Lucas, Nate Hunter The Open hockey team received a boost with the addition of 4 players from the first XI (who had a bye this week). BGS opened the game strong with good consistent pressure and maintaining the ball in the opposition half. Two early BGS corners without getting it in the back of the net. Scotch turned the pressure up and BGS was on the defensive for a prolonged period which resulted in a goal to Scotch. A late push forward saw BGS even the score 1-1 at the half. The second half saw Scotch open with early, consistent pressure and take the score to 2-1. The rest of the 2 nd half was an arm wrestle up and down with the field with neither team gaining traction. A late push by BGS at the end of the half wasn t enough to even the score, as we went down 2-1. HOCKEY 7/8A BYE RUGBY 1 ST BGS 22 defeated by Marcellin 33 On Saturday morning, the BGS 1 st XV arrived at the Wilson Rec, bubbling with anticipation for their clash against the underfeated Marcellin College. We started the game with a lot of promise, with Devan Nicholls capitalsing on some poor defence to open the scoring. However, ill discipline halted BGS momentum in the first half, suffering 2 yellow cards to head into the break 12-12, and with the second half all to play for. BGS started the second half on top, playing the game in our half with good control, however against the run of play Marcellin scored a length of the field try. Marcellin rallied from this point and continued their momentum to score another two trys in quick succession.

Unfortunately, despite a late rally, BGS were beaten by the clock, losing Standout performances from Ethan O Brien, who defended strongly all day and Nick Adams, who brought some life in to the BGS attack with some searching runs in the second half. The boys will no doubt hit the paddock hard this week for training this week in preparation for the next weeks Cardiff Cup match against Trinity Grammar. RUGBY 2 nd BGS 35 defeated Marcellin 29 On 26 May 2018, the seconds ran on to play Marcellin after winning all but one of our previous games. We started the game rather poorly and didn t gel together meaning we let through a couple of tries. We continued to push through however, and managed to gain an advantage at half time After a short break and a rousing speech by Sean, we ran back on the pitch for the second half. We started the half brilliantly and worked well as a team making tackles and sticking to our structure. Despite this Marcellin managed to score a few tries making it 5 tries each. Thanks to the kicking of our 10, Bud Trevellian we were able to come away with the win Overall, all the lads enjoyed the game and it was a testament to our team spirit as we never gave up. RUGBY - 9/10 BGS 22 defeated Marcellin 8 The Under 16 Rugby set off to face Marcellin this weekend at home, on the Wilson Rec. This game would be the decider on whether we would make the top 3 on the ladder, and having lost the last 2 games, our coach Mr Moore dedicated a lot of time and effort into our trainings and plays to ensure the best outcome; and we did not fail to impress. The game, starting at 9.30, kicked off with most of possession in Brighton s favor. However, one small breakthrough led to a penalty conversion early in the first half. We struck back though, with Max post scoring a brilliant try, breaking through the defensive line off the ruck shortly after, and successfully kicking the conversion, putting BGS ahead by four. The remainder of the first half remained mostly the same, with consistent possession from the home team, thanks to some reliable rucking by Will Muller and Wei-Yee Hall, and our star half back, James Sherborne picking from our scrums and breakdowns. The backline had an aim to spin the ball wide, and with a 100 percent success rate in the scrums and lineouts, occasionally even stealing the ball, we had numerous chances to get it out to the likes of Joel Dow, Ethan Lovett and Alec Ciciulla on the flanks. This resulted in the second try of the first half, made possible by Alec Ciciulla breaking through the line and hitting top speeds of 9.22 m/s.

The second half was off to a good start, with a successful kick off, which Brighton were receiving. There was a constant onslaught put forward by the perseverant Brighton side. This charge was led by our fullback Frank Ralogaivau (and the very persistent voice of Mackenzie Horth), constantly helping to adjust our defensive and offensive line, and guiding our newer players with their expansive knowledge of the game. The ball remained in possession of Brighton for the majority of the second half, only being turned over on the occasional dropped ball or knocked-on. The game was sealed by the final try scored by Wei-Yee hall, who broke the tackles of multiple defenders and went on to score in the left corner of the field, unfortunate for our kicker, Max, who had a hard time successfully kicking the conversion. This put the final score to 22-8, a comfortable victory for the boys, putting us back on track for the season. SOCCER 1 st BGS 2 defeated by St Kevins 3 The firsts did not quite play to their fullest capacity at the weekend. St Kevins started the better of the two teams, and were rewarded for their efforts with a goal early on in the first half. Yet once down, our boys rallied for a period towards the end of the first half and managed to squeeze a goal out of nothing from a set piece, debutant Aidan Nicholls with the final touch. The second half saw the boys go down again after once again starting the slower of the two teams after the interval. However through a lightning counter fast counter attack ended by Tristan Scheirs, the boys found themselves level once more. Despite the momentum at the end being in BGS' favour, St Kevins prevailed with a goal where the boys perhaps could have done a little better. Losing despite coming back from behind twice is a tough lesson to learn, but being switched on is something our boys have to master and demonstrate not only this season but for years to come. SOCCER -2 nd BGS 1 defeated St Kevins 0 The winning streak continued, this time with another 1-0 victory at home against a determined St Kevins outfit. Hamish McDowell scored the only goal of the game, with a nice finish from outside the 18 yard box enough to see us home. St Kevins had their chances but our defence held firm, with Adam Levenda-Freeman and James Hamilton standouts. Going forward, the tempo should be increased for the next game, as too many times we were slow on the ball and weren't able to create many chances as a result. A well fought victory though overall, and hoping to continue this run of form next week.

SOCCER 4 th BGS 7 defeated Melbourne Grammar 3 Best Players: Felix Gong, Dylan Hebden, Feilong Yun and Owen Lui. The boys recorded their first win over the weekend against Melbourne Grammar, though it was with the help of four of 1 st s players. The boys were in complete control of the game, dominating possession and taking plenty of shots to shake the opposition. We went into half time 5-1 up. Unfortunately, in the second half the boys got a bit ahead of themselves as we gave MGS some momentum. MGS were not going down without a fight, they were able to break through our defense creating many chances making the score 5-3 at the half waypoint of the second half. However, the score could have been very different if it weren t for the heroic saves from Feilong Yun. Feilong put his body on the line to ensure no further goals would pass him. With 10 minutes to go the boys put the game to bed with two goals from Felix Gong and Owen Lui. Thanks again to the 1 st boys who gave us a hand and providing us with much needed confidence for the rest of the season. SOCCER 10A BGS 2 defeated by St Kevins 4 Best Players: Dom, Nik, Hamish, Costa, Jason, Oliver Cruse We had a very early start this week, with an 8:30am kick-off at St Kevin's facility. With the quick pitch (as it was wet) and St Kevin's starting with high intensity, the boys started the match on the back foot and couldn't get control in the game. We were unable to get out of our half effectively, and we then conceded a scrambled goal in the 6 yard box. Another St Kevin's goal shortly followed, leaving the boys with a big challenge ahead of themselves. The boys responded and got a foot-hold in the game, gained control and started to move the ball around. We began to create chances as the midfield of Nik, Costa and Hamish (when he came on) dictated the game. Costa hit the post amongst a couple of half-chances. We spoke about fixing some issues defensively and getting back into the game at half-time, and the boys started the second half very well. A goal from Hamish at distance into an empty net as their keeper miscued his clearance, and a fantastic strike from Dom from distance into the bottom corner brought us back to 2-2. The boys pushed for a third but couldn't find the back of the net. A mixture of silly fouls and good play from the opposition lead to them restoring their 2 goal lead at the end of the game, and finishing with the win.

Overall, the lads played their best football so far this season during the periods they had control, and deserved a 2-2 draw. SOCCER -10C BGS 3 drew with Wesley College 3 Best Players: Carl Rumbens, Julian Svensen, Richard Jiang, Will Fry The team hopefully learned a lesson about complacency in the first quarter of the game. The boys started the game without the necessary intensity. There was very little talk, and a noticeable drop in work rate compared to previous weeks. Whilst we weren't punished on the scoreboard, starting a game with that attitude put us on the back foot. For the rest of the first half, the team played well in patches in an attempt to recover from a poor start. The likes of Julian Svensen and Jack Longmire started to drive forward more often, and we started to win the ball higher up the field. We scored three goals, but looked very vulnerable to the Wesley fast break. The scores were level at 3-3 in a messy first half, that saw us concede an own goal and two goals from long balls played over the top. In the second half, we wanted to nullify their counter attack and exploit their back four with composed play in the final third. We gave a much improved performance in the second half. We created many clear cut chances to score, but lacked both a combination of luck and composure. Wesley had fewer chances in the second half, but Will Fry ensured they didn't capitalise on the chances they did have with some solid goalkeeping. Carl Rumbens played his role as a defensive midfielder very well in the second half, disrupting plenty of Wesley fast breaks with a refined sense of positioning and structure behind the play. Across the field, it was a better team performance defined by confidence and a will to win. We were unlucky we didn't take the three points, but this should also hopefully remind us to approach games with the proper attitude from the first whistle. SOCCER 9B BGS 2 defeated by Xavier 6 Goals: Juan, Jules Coming off a bye the week prior, the boys started slowly against an undefeated Xavier. We were put under the pump early by a more physical opposition and struggled to work our way back into the game. In saying this, BGS responded early to an early Xavier goal with Juan at his clinical best to level the game up at 1 1, before Xavier ran away with a 4 1 lead into half time. BGS came out with more aggression in the second half and had the better of the early chances, with Jules snatching a late consolation as the game finished with our first comprehensive loss for the season. Harley kept the score line respectable in the second half

as he made some important saves, whilst Ryan Dang, proved his worth up front after coming up for the D s. We will respond next week and look to return to our winning ways. SOCCER 8A BGS 7 defeated Haileybury 3 Goals: Lane (3), Stanley (1), Kai (1), Caile (1), Leslie (1) The boys in the year 8A Soccer again were brilliant. They played some wonderful football and lead 6-0 at half time against Haileybury went and scored the first goal to make it 7-0 during the second half but lost some concentration especially as I subbed off the three strongest players, which allowed the opponent to make it 7-3 at the final whistle. SOCCER 8C BGS 1 drew with Geelong Grammar 1 Goals: Calum Binnie 1 Best Players: Tim Shaw- great defensive work rate, managed to stop many of their advances Tim Tso- great work as the keeper made crucial saves, which kept us is the game Cameron- great work rate and great distribution with the ball, dominating the midfield Another away game. This time around, we were making the trek out to Geelong to face their best. An early morning bus ride proved too much for some boys, as we departed from the outer crescent gates 4 boys short. The boys efforts were just as bad as their punctuality. Not switched on, a counter attack from Geelong left us trailing 1-0 at the half. Adjustments were made in the second half to counteract the defensive Geelong Grammar. However, their defence held strong, as we were only able to score an equaliser through an impressive run from Calum Binnie. Our first draw of the season, although the undefeated season is still in our sights, today's efforts dampens what could have been a perfect season. The boys, however, have learned many things from this game and will most definitely apply them for the rest of the season. SOCCER 7A BGS 2 drew with Wesley College 2 Goals: Seb, Matthew Campbell The 7A's returned home to the Mitchell as we looked to rebound from two losses in our previous two games. Our opponents in the early kickoff were Wesley College and despite missing some key players due to injury, we were confident we could get a result. Having had another strong week in training our slick, possession based style of play has really begun to develop and this was in full flow early in the game.

We dominated the ball and look to get in behind early, culminating in a few sharp chances that we were unable to capitalize on. Our Achilles heel thus far has been our tendency to switch off and make poor defensive errors and we unfortunately suffered another lapse as Wesley managed to sneak in behind to slip a hard chance past Niko in goal. Very much against the run of the play, the boys did not let it deter them and we quickly settled back into our rhythm and took the ascendancy. Led again by a brilliant performance from Seb in midfield we managed to equalize we he tapped in from close range from a corner. Wesley had a number of tall, strong defenders that made it tough to get in behind, however we stuck to our guns despite conceding another sloppy goal we draw level with ten minutes remaining courtesy of a debut goal for Matthew Cameron. What ensued was total domination from the boys who couldn't quite find the final ball and I thought we would take the lead when George was cynically chopped down in the box for what was a certain penalty. The referee waved away any appeals and despite our best efforts we convert, our pressure into a goal and the game eventually ended 2-2. Despite the draw, the performance was most pleasing, our possession oriented style is really coming together and at this stage the way we go about it is more important to me than the results. We look to go again this week and hopefully get back to winning ways. SOCCER 7B BGS 1 defeated Xavier 0 Goal: Julius Ferweda The 7Bs were looking up pick up their first win for the season as their confidence grew after scoring a couple of goals. BGS dominated early as our backline won everything in the air and cleaned up through balls as they finally started to work as a cohesive unit moving as one. Our midfield spearheaded by Julius Fereweda didn t let Xavier have to long on the ball however got caught being too attacking at times almost let Xavier take the lead. Some good link up play between Shohma and Julius saw Julius muscle his way through the box and put one in the back of the net. Our defence held together along with Joe Betinatti making some great saves in goal as we saw out the game 1-0 winners. SOCCER 7C BGS 0 defeated by St Kevins 10 The BGS 7C Soccer team returned, after a disappointing loss against St Kevins last weekend, for a home game at Firbank where they played against the St Kevins boys again. We were lucky enough to have a full team this weekend, which allowed us to maintain strong pressure on our opponents and not be out numbered.

The first half of the match reminded us very much of our defeat from the previous weekend and we again got to know the strongest players from St Kevins. It was clear BGS needed to improve on their marking of players and not letting St Kevins get to the ball first without a challenge. With a very painful score at half time, the boys regrouped and discussed what they needed to do to minimise their loss. Key efforts were shown by Mackenzie, Jake, Angus, Zac and Richard. In the second half, St Kevins unfortunately were able to continue to dominate possession and the scoreboard. Great efforts from the boys who kept going even though the score wasn t what they wanted.
