Most of them are on circuits so they offer the possibility of completing a different number of laps to provide events at different distances. With this type of course there is also the opportunity to move start and finish points on the circuit either for safety reasons, or so that a different head quarters can be used. There is normally no need to issue separate course codes for each different distance, or each start and finish point on the circuit. One exception has been the Husbands Bosworth - Welford circuit where the large number of combinations prompted the addition of a suffix to the original (NC16) course code to identify the location of the start. On this circuit there is a marked difference between the times riders can record on the NC16N & NC16H ten-mile courses which can be seen by comparing the course records. Here are some examples: NC1A - this code is used whether the start and finish are at Brigstock or on the Lowick bypass. NC14 - this has been regularly used for events at 10, 18.7, 20 & 28.7 mile distances. NC16N - this is used for any distance event on the Husbands Bosworth - Welford circuit when the start is at Naseby. NC16H - this is used for any distance event on the Husbands Bosworth - Welford circuit when the start is on the A50 Husbands Bosworth to Welford road. NC16S - this is used for any distance event on the Husbands Bosworth - Welford circuit when the start is on the Sulby lane or on the airfield road.
