1 R O C K I N G H A M F O R E S T Welcome to a new year with RFRC. NEWSLETTER January 2016 Chairman s Chat We have a lot of competitions, training and social events planned for you. These take a lot of organising and hard work to put on so please support them, either by participation or by helping. On February 20th we are hosting the Area 7 Winter Dressage Qualifier at Keysoe. If you wish to compete please contact Antonia and Sophie as soon as possible. There are classes from Prelim through to Medium, so should be something for everyone. This year, you can also compete as an individual in the Winter Dressage Qualifier. For those of you not competing, PLEASE offer some help. We need Writers, Tack check stewards and arena stewards also Scorers and score collectors. Even if you can only offer a couple of hours we would be very grateful. Contact myself or Rosemary to offer help. This competition generates a lot of money for RFRC, so we can provide new equipment for club use to benefit you, a Club Member. 6 To our members: Rockingham Forest Riding Club Treasurer I have been your treasurer now coming up for 3 years, I have managed to drag the riding club into the 21 st century with online payments, online entries, a PayPal account and online book keeping to give you a clear understanding of how the accounts work, along with all these super clouds that look after all our documents and figures forever and ever... Unfortunately I have decided with my young family and full time job that I am not able to continue this role anymore and we are therefore looking for someone to take over my role. This person needs to have book keeping experience and not be a technophobe! I am happy to ease you into the role and shadow you for a few months or until you are happy to take over fully. You need to be trustworthy and happy to provide a reference or be credit checked or have a professional standing in the community. Being the treasurer involves paying all the bills, providing and keeping a cash tin for events, recording and reconciling transactions through the bank, PayPal and cash along with being a committee member and attending monthly meetings and supporting the club, and then providing the yearend figures with your report at the AGM. I have enjoyed my time with the club and hope you have seen the benefits of all the new technology I have introduced. If you would like to discuss it further please call me on or me at natalie@best4umortgages.com Best wishes Natalie Barlow

11 Rockingham Forest Riding Club is run by a committee of volunteers. We run competitions to raise funds in order to subsidise the training and social events we provide. Whenever we organise an event, we always need lots of helpers. We are dependent on our parents, friends and connections to provide that help as without it the events simply cannot happen. We ask that each member s family/friends volunteer to help at a minimum of one event each year. we do keep a list of those who have helped!! The more people who volunteer as helpers, the less the onus falls on the faithful few, so please put your name forward to help in some capacity. Don t underestimate yourself we desperately need people to do a wide range of jobs and you don t need to be an expert you just need to be willing! We will give you any instruction/training you may need so don t worry if you think you haven t a clue we can help! Quite apart from anything else, helping at events is good fun, sociable and gets you away from the daily humdrum for a while! The following gives you an idea of the sort of help we need:- Catering, Fence Judging, Stewarding, Tack checking, Lorry park stewards, Score collectors, Scorers, Show-jumping poll pickers, Putting up show-jumps and taking them down at the end of the day, Flagging cross-country course, Maintenance of equipment, Storage and transport of equipment, Dressage writers, Taking round refreshments etc. etc. etc. We often need some professional help at our events, i.e. doctor, vet, farriery, paramedic, etc. so again, please let us know if you would be prepared to help in a professional capacity. We know you are all busy, but these events are being organised for you and WE REALLY DO NEED YOU so PLEASE find a bit of time to give the faithful few some help. Thank you. Please contact Kelly Betham Phone/Text : rfrc@hotmail.co.uk
12 Book Corner Out there is a world of literature based around the Horse. I thought it would be nice to find out what and where it all is. It is January and horrible outside. Just the time of year for curling up with the dogs and reading that Christmas gift. One of my Christmas presents was a lovely book, Labrador, by Ben Fogle, published by William Collins. As some of you will know I got myself a Labrador puppy last March. Polly is now a year old and as daft as ever. This book has taught me a lot about the history of the Lab interspersed with the story of his own Lab, Inca, which I am afraid made me cry a lot! Although I knew Labs are water dogs, I wasn t really aware they had webbed feet and that they were originally fishermens dogs used to retrieve fish and equipment that fell off the boats into the sea and it was all off the coast of Newfoundland, very cold and stormy. It tells you how they came to England and how the breed developed. So very interesting, especially if you have a lab! It is a good read even if you don t have one. Happy reading in Jenny Can any of you recommend a book? If so, please let me know and I will include it in a future Newsletter. Just include title, author and publisher.
