1 NEWSLETTER #66 FEBRUARY / MARCH 2012 Hi Pony Clubbers, Apologies for the delay in getting the newsletter to you this month. Attached to your newsletter you will see the final Inter Regional Results from (These are the final results of the Regional competition only which were collaborated with the results from all the other Pony Club provinces Novice and Open classes only) Well done to all our members who competed in the Inter Branch Competition, and of course to Brylee, who was the only member from Benoni Branch who went through to the Regionals. We are very proud of all of you! PAST EVENTS: Mounted Games Practice Lots of members arrived full of enthusiasm for the games practice on the 5 th February at Ostlers Inn. Inspection was held prior to getting stuck into practicing for games. We were able to practice a lot of the games in preparation for the Inter Branch games to be held at the end of March. Don t forget to let the committee know if you want to be in a team. This is such a fun event. You all want to be there! Another practice session is scheduled for this month. Tuition Rally We had such a lovely turn out for the unmounted tuition rally which was held at Tack Crusaders in Bredell. Some members were given instruction on the different kinds and parts of tack, by Sara Ryan, in preparation for the Saddlery badge. Our members were also introduced to a lot of different types of bits which was very interesting. Members who had already done this badge were given tuition on the new Fire Marshall Badge. A date will be set shortly for the testing of these Achievement badges. Newsletter #66 Page 1

! Please ensure that you attend this practice if you are going to be in a team. EVENING SOCIAL RALLY MOVIE NIGHT! Date : Friday, 23rd March Venue : Ster-Kinekor, Northmead Square Time : t.b.a. For a little bit of fun, we would like our members to get together for an evening at the movies!

Movies and time slots are only available a few days in advance, so we will be monitoring the web and let you know via e-mail closer to the time. Please keep this Friday night open for Pony Club!

2 UPCOMING EVENTS: MOUNTED GAMES PRACTICE Date : 18th March Venue : Ostlers Inn, Hazel Rd Time : 9am With the games just around the corner we need to get our skills up to scratch! Due to time constraints, we did not manage to get through ALL the games in our previous practice session. We want to win the Inter Branch Mounted Games this year!! Please ensure that you attend this practice if you are going to be in a team. EVENING SOCIAL RALLY MOVIE NIGHT! Date : Friday, 23rd March Venue : Ster-Kinekor, Northmead Square Time : t.b.a. For a little bit of fun, we would like our members to get together for an evening at the movies! We were hoping to catch the new War Horse movie, but unfortunately this will only be showing at the bigger Joburg theatres, so we will have to see what family movie will be showing instead. (Movie time slots are usually 5:30 or 8:00pm in the evening.) PONY CLUB ANNUAL INTER- BRANCH MOUNTED GAMES Date : 31 st March (note change!) Venue : Randjiesfontein Time : 8:00am After all the practice that we have been doing, this is the day for Benoni to shine and show the rest of the region just how good we are! If you are not competing in any of the teams, please come along and support. There is also a trophy for the branch with the most spirit! PROFICIENCY TESTING Date : 14 th or 15 th April. Venue : t.b.a Time : t.b.a At long last we have managed to finalize a date for the C Advanced Testing. Please ensure that your name is given to Nicole if you want to do this efficiency test. Also Nicole will be able to send you the test sheets so that you can prepare for this test. Newsletter #66 Page 2

3 PHASE COMPETITION Date : 22 April Venue : Arthur Valentines, Zesfontein Benoni Time : TBA We will be holding a 3-phase competition, which includes Dressage, Cross Country and Show jumping.

! As soon as the schedules and Entry Forms have been drafted, they will be emailed to all our members. OTHER We will be looking at arranging another Night treasure hunt for a Friday evening.

3 3 PHASE COMPETITION Date : 22 April Venue : Arthur Valentines, Zesfontein Benoni Time : TBA We will be holding a 3-phase competition, which includes Dressage, Cross Country and Show jumping. There will be several heights to accommodate the different abilities of our riders. So book this date now!! As soon as the schedules and Entry Forms have been drafted, they will be ed to all our members. OTHER We will be looking at arranging another Night treasure hunt for a Friday evening. Details to follow in newsletter once we have arranged a suitable date and time. Don t forget the Inter Branch & Inter-Regional Competition which is scheduled for the 26 th and 27 th May. The venue is still to be confirmed. For those who have never participated there is something for everyone from our little lead rein riders right up to our top riders and the disciplines includes showing, equitation, dressage and Showjumping. During the month of July, we will be holding our Amazing Race / car rally. This is where you can get your whole family involved in lots of fun following clues and travelling around Benoni. During September we are going to hold an Equestrian Faire. Members can run their own stalls and sell their goodies. Start thinking of what you would like to sell or make, and get cracking now!! Knots Achievement Badge. Mrs T has had some requests from members wanting to do this badge.
