Bowden Cricket Club has announced the signing up of Tom Flowers, an England and Wales Cricket Board level 3 Coach. Tom has been brought in to co-ordinate and develop the Club's coaching strategy going forward. Club Chairman, Rob Gomez, said We welcome Tom to Bowden. We have ten sides that represent the Club. We have recognised that the Club's coaching programme needed better co-ordination and a new direction. Tom has plenty of experience in this area and we were impressed by his enthusiasm to become involved. Flowers, a former Leicestershire cricketer, who is also involved in England's national teams' coaching programme at Loughborough, said I was impressed by Bowden's facilities and the efforts that they are making to develop the Club. There is already a good group of Club coaches involved and I hope to help get the best out of them and bring out the best in the Club's players of all ages. Tom will be coaching: Junior Pre Season Winter Nets (page 6) Senior Pre Season Winter Nets (page 6) Senior Training (Thursday evenings Apr-Sep) Junior Training (Friday evenings Apr-Sep)) NEW CAPTAINS FOR 2016 Bowden Cricket Club is happy to announce Karl Pollard as first team captain for His background of captaining at a higher level, his wealth of experience and cricket knowledge will aid Bowden s first team in their search for Division 3 cricket. The Second team will be captained by Jerry Horsfall. His enthusiasm and motivation will hopefully push the second side from Division 9 up to Division 8. INSIDE EDGE Page 1

JUNIOR CRICKET Bowden Cricket Club is once again proud of all the Junior teams and how they performed throughout A special mention has to go to our Under 11a side. Below is the report from Team Manager Dave Wilford. U11a s lift the Weetabix Cup Bowden CC celebrated a fantastic success for their U11a team at the Corby & Kettering District Weetabix Cup Final s Day held at Brigstock CC in July. Following wins against S&L Corby and Great Oakley in the preliminary rounds they drew Burton Latimer in the second semi-final. Fielding first, Bowden restricted the opposition, who start at 200 in the Pairs Cricket format, to 233 for 5 from their 16 Overs. Callum Leat and Max Pollard both took a wicket each with Harry Wilford taking 2 wickets and also a run out from a direct throw from cover. Bowden managed to comfortably outscore this, making 288 for 1 with all players making a contribution especially George Linsell who made his highest score of 11. The Final against Weekley & Warkton CC followed. Losing the toss, Bowden batted first. Although openers Elliot Mitchell and Harry Wilford got off to reasonable start it was the fourth pair of Callum Leat (17) and Oliver Rodgers (21) who really stole the show. They managed to put on 48 runs in their 4 overs including both hitting sixes over mid-wicket taking Bowden s total to an impressive 284 for 3. In reply, Weekley lost a wicket first ball to Leat and with quality controlled bowling during the middle of the innings especially by Sam Stephenson and Pollard, Weekley were always up against the required run rate. Emily Wilford, who captained the side, then really turned the screw by taking two wickets in her first of three overs to claim the trophy by 37 runs. Rodgers who also kept wicket very well was named Man of the Match although it could equally have been awarded to Leat for also his fine all round display. INSIDE EDGE Page 3

This will be bolstered in the 2016 season with the inclusion of Level 3 Coach Tom Flowers. Many thanks to all the parents who helped out during the season with either umpiring, scoring, making refreshments or general match organisation. The SISIS Rotorake 5 will aid the ground staff in providing top quality pitches for all our players. We are also hoping that a new Roller will be available in time for the new season. THANK YOU TO JAYNE AND LUCY The Committee would like to thank Jayne Keightley and Lucy Hobbs for their contributions over the years. Jayne will be replaced by Elaine Pepler as Welfare Officer. And Lucy is standing down, with Ailsa Stephenson taking over as Junior Co-Ordinator. Jayne will still be in charge of the Sweet shop on Friday Evenings for junior training. STORM BARNEY HITS MIGHTY OAK The iconic Oak tree that provides the Clubs emblem was ravaged by the winds from Storm Barney. The tree that stands proudly on the Bowden outfield lost a significantly large branch. Fortunately, narrowly missing both, the Clubhouse and a memorial bench. Picture courtesy of G. In the first of a series of events that Robin Keightley will be organising. The club will be running a night out to Peterborough Greyhound Racing on Saturday 30 th January 2016 a bus will leave Market Harborough at 5.45pm and will return after the last race. The cost will be 24. This includes the bus, entrance, two drinks, a basket meal and a free bet on the tote (super six) If you are interested, you will need to confirm numbers and provide a 12 deposit by the 11th January.
