Every student that participated contributed to the team finish. The girls team placed 4 th as a team among the 22 competing schools and the boys team placed 2 nd!! All coaches are so proud of the team s accomplishments. Coach Rivard was close to tears on Saturday after the meet when she exclaimed, Even though my shoulders are fried from the sun, I couldn t have asked for a better Saturday morning. Our athletes competed hard and showed great team spirit! When interviewed after his 2 nd place high jump finish, 8 th grader Nic J told camera crews, It was really neat when my teammates came over to watch me, Jack, and Heyabe high jump even though most everyone else watching the meet had left. Their cheering helped me jump even higher! Other great finishes include the CHAMPION 4x100 relay teams!! The all 8 th grade boys relay team (Heyabe, Jack S, Luke S, Adam B) beat out strong opponent St. John the Baptist due to their speedy skills and swift handoffs. The girls team (Maria B, Lauren V, Lauren H, Hayley P) ran from start to finish in first place, leaving their opponents in the dust. Our final champion is 8 th grade Hayley P with her victory 100 meter sprint. Hayley trained hard all season for that moment, she told reporters after her race, and she took inspiration from the famous poet and author, Maya Angelou. I ve been reading about her in my super-cool reading class, and I ve realized that if Maya could withstand all the struggles in her life, I could win this race. And then I did!! Way to go, CHAMPS! There were many other fantastic races throughout the morning and afternoon. Our final story is dedicated to the boys Sprint Medley Relay team who came in a SUPER CLOSE 2 nd place. The boys (Heyabe, Shamus, Nic J, and Alex B) ran hard and were in 3 rd place when Alex B got the baton. He started his 800m run composed and confident, slowly making up ground to catch the 1 st and 2 nd place runners. When the bell sounded for the last lap, Alex had caught up. Now all three boys were running together, each looking to gain the victory for their team. With 200 meters to go, Alex made his move and took the lead. With 100 meters to go, all boys were evenly racing down the straightaway. Alex s face was one of determination he gave every ounce of strength he had in those final 50 meters. When it looked like Transfiguration would take it, across the finish line zoomed the anchor from Highland Catholic. Even though the boys finished 2 nd, they deserve a write-up for their spectacular team effort!!

Benilde St. Margaret s which was hosting the event had invited us to participate against them and an area club team from St. Louis Park. This was even after the morning had been occupied by many lacrosse players that were participating in the CAA track meet at St. Thomas Academy. Despite being a little tired because of that, through the first game they were playing very well, even though they were being assaulted with words and actions from the opposing team. The first game was against Saint Louis Park and the first goal was scored very early by Max H. Since Coach Bloemendal and Alex B & Heyabe Isaac were late, Cooper J. sat in net without any goalie pads. I wasn t afraid, all I need is a stick and a helmet, and I can stop anything that comes my way. said Cooper J. after defending his goal valiantly! Adam B had two assists to Max H. who hit him in perfect stride. Heyabe Isaac and Alex Bloemendal finally showed up and were fired up for the second half. Traffic was pretty bad on 394, wish we could have been there sooner. said Heyabe as he exited the express shuttle. Trevor Schell scored a buzzer beater goal to end the first half, and it gave the Tigers momentum to continue in the second half. The Tigers won that game 4-2 The second game against BSM started and Luke Solheid's carbon fiber stick was ready, getting him two assists. Alex Bloemendal had a fantastic four goal game, while Elise Amerongen was a brick wall in net. The game slows down when I m in the net. I feel like Crawford from the Blackhawks back there on most days. I m dominate. said Elise as she polished off her goalie stick. Henry Forde scored on a beautiful pass from Heyabe in the second half and the Tigers would continue to dominate taking the game 6-3. After the game Cooper said "Nothing like 80 degree weather to get the body going!" A excited birthday boy Kyle F. replied with "Tsss Tsss Tsss!" The Tigers season record stands at 3-3, heading into the season s final two games. All the boys and gals are excited for the game against providence on Friday, in their Home Opener! Go tigers! This past Wednesday the entire Lacrosse team was awarded Moses Awards for showing sportsmanship and responding positively when confronted with a difficult situation on the field. We are very proud of how are team displayed the proper way to play the game! They exemplify the way that we teach our students to play Athletics at Transfiguration!

The first game was played on Friday May 1 st against MMSA. Claire C. was perfect through the first 3 innings of the game with 7 strikeouts the first time through the order. The game was tied 0-0 heading into the bottom of the 3 rd when the Tigers exploded for 6 runs. Emma M. worked the count full before walking and that was followed up by Tabi D. hanging tough on an inside fastball to earn first base. A stolen base, passed ball and an error led to the first run. Katherine S. clutch ground out to short led to another run. Singles by Elise and Gracie S, a walk by Madeline S and a 2 run single by Maria W. made the score 4-0. The inning was then capped off by a 2 run triple by Claire C to bring it to 6-0 Tigers. MMSA got one runner as far as third base but never threatened the rest of the way and finished with only 1 hit. The second games as played on a breezy Tuesday afternoon at Pioneer Park in Little Canada against a very good St. John s team looking for revenge from a season opening loss. Elise A. opened the game with a sharp single through the hole at short and third. 2 steals on 2 pitches put her at third with nobody out and Gracie S still at the plate. A key 2 strike ground out drove home the run for a short lived 1-0 lead. St. John s came out with a small ball game plan and started the game with a bunt single. A couple of stolen bases and a groundout tied the game at 1 after 1 inning of play. The top of 2 started very well for the Tigers as Gracie K and Megan W lead off with back to back singles. After a strikeout, Alexa A. picked them up with a single to left for a 2-1 lead. After 2 shutout innings by Claire C, striking out the side in each, the score was still 2-1 heading to the top of the 4 th. With 1 out, Claire C walked and moved to 3 rd on a surprise bunt by Gracie K. With runners on 1 st and 3 rd, Megan W lined a 2 run double to right to increase the lead to 4-1. A wild pitch and Paige P. groundout increased the lead to 5-1. A bunt, double, single and a couple of walks lead to 3 runs for St. John s to cut the lead to 5-4 after 4 innings. Another Elise A single and Gracie S double lead to another Tiger run for a 6-4 lead heading to the bottom of 5. St John s scored one run in the 5 th to make it 6-5 going to the last inning. Claire C. led off with a single and pinch runner Madeline S. stole second and scored on an error to push the lead to 7-5 heading to the bottom of the 6 th. A lead-off walk put the tying run at the plate but a rocket throw by Elise A to Gracie S covering second base nailed the runner trying to steal for out number 1. On the next pitch, a hot shot up the middle was deflected by Claire C to Gracie S coming across behind her for a super ground out. 3 straight strikes for a strikeout ended the game with another Tigers, hard fought victory.

May 5 th. We started strong with Matty on the mound and a strong defense behind her to shut down St. Agnes offense not allowing any runs across the plate. The Tigers came up to the plate with their blazing bats and ended with the 1 st inning with the 5 run max. This was the pattern of the game. Peyton took the mound in the 3 rd inning to continue leading the defense. Offensively the girls continued to strive at the plate. It was fun seeing the excitement in their faces as they continued to put the bat on the ball to see what St. Agnes could do defensively. With 13 hits and 12 strikeouts from our pitching duo, the girls won The girls had an all around solid game! With rain looming in the air, the Lady Tigers returned to their home field on Weds May 6 th to face St. Thomas More. It seems to be a trend, as the last time we faced St. Thomas More we had rain/snow showers throughout the game. The girls knew the last time we faced them they had a decent pitcher, as well as, some girls that could hit the ball. They were ready! We started the game, with hopes to beat out the rain. The Tigers took the field first with Matty starting again on the mound. We ended the 1 st inning 0-0. The Tigers defense continued strong in the 2 nd and they turned on the offense as well, ending the 2 nd leading 5-0. In the 3 rd inning, St. Agnes was able to get 4 runs in and held the Lady Tigers to 3 runs. At this time, the rain showers were starting and it was time for the Tigers to take the field again, this time with Peyton on the mound. After 4 batters (3 strikeouts), the Tigers were out of the inning and ready to bat. The Tigers were able to end the inning with 5 more runs, putting the Tigers ahead The rain started coming down harder as the Tigers took the field. The girls were determined to continue to stay strong in the field and held St. Agnes to 1 run. With the game out of reach, the game was called with the Tigers winning We had another strong performance from Matty and Peyton with a total of 13 strikeouts, and offensively strong with 10 hits. Great job ladies! Transfiguration 6 Benilde St. Margaret 3

On the mound for the game was Wild Thing I, Joe Schoenecker, and Wild Thing II, Jack Schwartz. With those two on the hill, there is a 50/50 chance that they will either strike out the batter or hit them said Gabe Honerman. It turned out that their pitching skills were needed because it was pitcher s duel. The boys fought their way to get onto base anyway that they could and took full advantage of their speed and baseball acumen. Dom Nicosia gave Wild Thing I and II all the run support that they would need with an RBI triple and a scored run. I see the ball. I hit the ball. No gimmicks. No tricks. It s as simple as that. On defense, Matt Wallner, aka Willy Mays Hayes, made a catch in centerfield to stop a late inning rally by the Eagles. The S & S train then rolled on the pitching mound throwing a combined shutout for a 4-0 victory for the Tigers. Jack Schwartz was interviewed by the Little Canada Daily Bugle after the game and was asked about his performance It feels out there. I mean, it's a major rush. I mean, it feels radical in kind of a tubular sort of way, but most of all, it feels out there. The Tigers have one week left to the season and the boys are showing no signs of taking there foot off the gas! 5th Grade This past Tuesday the 5th grade Tigers took on the border rivals from St. Pat s. The Tigers were looking to make up for their opening game lose to the Shamrocks at plush LaPlante Field on campus of Transfiguration! Give me the ball, I m ready! said Gianni Hurley as he strode to the hill! The Tigers from the very beginning took command on both offense and defense. Starting out the scoring in the bottom of the 2nd with 7 runs, highlighted by a homerun by Gianni Hurley to right center field. The hits, pitching, and defense kept coming throughout the game! The Tigers offensive onslaught continued, with scoring runs in every inning they walked to the plate! On defense, every time the Shamrocks would threaten, the Tigers would respond with slick pitching, and a double play to end the threat in the 3rd. We are starting to come together. said Andy Nimis after the 14-4 onslaught. This is the Tigers 4th straight victory and are positioning themselves for a great run with the last week of the regular season next week! Come out and week the Tigers on Thursday next week at home for fan appreciation day at LaPlante Field!

Scheduled starter Alex Johnson showed up ready to go, but tweaked his throwing arm during warmups and was forced to step aside. In true Tenacious Ten fashion, Jonah Sheierl took the mound on short notice and proved his worth. In his four innings of work, he surrendered only 4 runs on five hits while striking out 3. Giving him defensive support was slick-fielding Max Yanz, who made a fantastic snare of a red-hot liner to short and Jonah Roberts who snagged a liner and two grounders in the second, to retire St. Agnes by himself. The Tiger bats were alive early as the visitors scored six times before an out was recorded. Noah Reardon led off with a triple to right. After singles by Alex Johnson and Max Yanz, and walks by Jonah Roberts and Nick Erickson, the Tigers had two runs in and the bases loaded. Helping in own cause in grand style, Jonah Sheierl stepped up to the plate and crushed a frozen rope to the gap in left-center. The drive split the outfielders and allowed the speedy Sheierl to round the bases for a Grand Slam. After a pitching change for the Aggies, the Tiger bats quieted until the third, when Nick Erickson was able to find a crack in the armor and drove a liner to right-center that skipped through the gap. The result: Another home run for the Tigers. After plating four more runs in the fifth, capped by a Jackson Preiner steal of home, the Tigers looked to relief pitcher Jonah Roberts to finish off the Aggies. Commanding the hill for the first time this season, the crafty righty did his job admirably allowing two runs on only one hit, with one strikeout. The Tigers triumphed With stormy weather looming, the Tigers returned home Wednesday for a tilt with St. Charles. Once again, the Tiger bats were ready at the outset as they chalked up six runs in the first inning. Highlighting the first were singles by Henry Votel and Jackson Preiner, who both came across to score. Toeing the rubber for his fourth start of the season, Noah Reardon stymied the young and over-matched Charlies. Noah tossed a 4-inning shutout, giving up only three hits while whiffing five in the 10-run victory for the Tigers. Defense was the order of the day as the Tenacious Ten only allowed one runner to get as far as third base. The walk-off win was completed in the bottom of the fourth as Nick Erickson crossed the plate on a wild pitch. Tigers win Heading into the final week of the season, the Tigers are with only two regular-season games remaining. In their final home game, the Tigers square off against St. Croix at 5:30 on Tuesday, May 12 th and conclude on the road Thursday, May 14 th at 4:00 versus Community of Saints in West St. Paul. With a strong showing next week, a playoff berth may be on the horizon.
