1 Transfiguration Catholic School Volume 4, Issue 26 Tigers Athletic News April 17th, 2015 Tigers Girls Fastpitch Transfiguration 8th 6 St. John Evangelist 2 T I G ER PRIDE BOOSTER CLU B Mark your calendars for the 3rd Annual Tiger Pride Booster Club Golf Tournament on May 17th. It is a great tournament and lots of fun to be had by all!! More information to follow in this Tiger Athletic News, or visit GO TIGERS!! Tigers Boys Baseball Transfiguration 5th 3 St. Pat s 4 Transfiguration 8th 11 New Life Academy 12 No Games Tigers Lacrosse T I G E R S TRAC K AND FIELD NEWS The running Tigers had great practices this week to prepare them for their second meet of the season this Sunday, April 19 at Park Cottage Grove. For the first time this year the Tigers will compete against their rivals: St. Ambrose. When asked how they re preparing for the upcoming competition, 8 th grader Adam B responded thoughtfully. May the wind be with us and the sun always shining, he said, while gazing up towards the sky. 8 th grader Lauren H is taking a different approach to her preparation. She s refused to wear any red this week (the color of St. Ambrose s jerseys) and has worked extra hard at hand-offs with her relay mates. In other news, we were excited to use our NEW high jump pole at practice after digging out the mats from the storage garage. Thanks to many tracksters for helping with the mats and standards. A special shout out to Ms. Kendra Conley and Mr. Matt Weingartz for forging into the depths of the storage garage, brushing away the mouse dropping from the winter, and creating a path to get to the mats. It was a team effort!! Stay tuned for meet results. GO TIGERS!! Keep on running!! T I G ERS LAC RO SSE NEWS The Lacrosse team opens up their season on Friday, April 17th. We can t wait to get out to Providence Academy! Been anticipating this game since the end of last season! said Kyle Faust before they boarded the cars to head out to the game on Friday. Check out the result of the game next week in the News!!

3 Transfiguration Catholic School Volume 4, Issue 26 Tigers Athletic News April 17th, 2015 Tigers Girls Fastpitch Transfiguration 8th 6 St. John Evangelist 2 Tigers Boys Baseball Transfiguration 5th 3 St. Pat s 4 Transfiguration 8th 11 New Life Academy 12 Tigers Lacrosse T I G ERS FASTPITCH NEWS 8th/7th/6th Grade The 2-time defending CAA champions opened the new season playing in the strong 8th grade National league against St John Evangelist. The Tigers opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with Gracie Sevigny scoring from third on a passed ball after having reached on a HBP, advancing to second on a Maria Wolfe groundout and stealing third on the next pitch. St John's scored a couple of unearned runs in the top of the 4th but the Tigers came right back to tie it in the bottom. Alexa Anderson led off with a booming single, stole second, moved to third on Ella Buffalo's clutch ground out and scored on another passed ball. Claire Celski held St John's off the board the rest of the way with the help of some stellar defense by Grace Klingsporn and Samantha Burrows. This enabled the Tigers to rally for 4 big runs in the bottom of the 5th. 4 consecutive singles by Elise Amerongen, Gracie S, Maria W and Madeline Sevigny plated 2 runs, a passed ball another and a single by Grace K the 4th run. After a slow start the Tigers hit the ball hard with Paige Paulos driving a double to deep right and Megan Wallner hitting a stinging line drive to center that the fielder had to catch in self defense! Claire C allowed just 1 hit while striking out 14 and walking 4. Great start to the season and a great day to be outside! No Games 5th Grade The 5th grade Tigers fastpitch team has their first game of the Tiger careers on Friday April 17th at St. Pascals. It s been a busy week of preparing our minds for the highly anticipated matchup with our St. Paul rivals to the west. said Maty Kopp as she got onto the team s charter bus that was leaving from school. The Tigers result for their first game could not be published for this week s edition, but stay tuned to next week s edition to see how the team fared in their inaugural game. GO TIGERS!!
4 Transfiguration Catholic School Volume 4, Issue 26 Tigers Athletic News April 17th, 2015 Tigers Girls Fastpitch Transfiguration 8th 6 St. John Evangelist 2 Tigers Boys Baseball Transfiguration 5th 3 St. Pat s 4 Transfiguration 8th 11 New Life Academy 12 No Games Tigers Lacrosse T I G ERS BASEBA L L NEWS 8th/7th Grade On Thursday, the 7th and 8th grade boys baseball team traveled to Lake Jr. High to take on the Eagles of New Life Academy. Both teams were looking forward to starting the CAA 8th Grade Eastside league schedule. The field is mowed and there wasn t one dandelion! It feels great! said Conrad Chevrette to the crowd that was assembling right before the first pitch of the season. The Tigers bats came out hot and started spraying the ball all over the field. On the hill, Jack Schwartz got the opening day start. Felt good to get out on the mound and throw a couple knuckle balls. said Jack as he iced down his arm after his pitching debut. Following in relief was Tyler Bushard and Sam Prokott. In the end though, the hot bats of New Life took over the Tigers, and in the last inning the Eagles pulled out a close victory. Next game for the Tigers is this next Tuesday at home! Come on out and watch this year s crew take on St. Pat s! 6th Grade The 6th Grade baseball team plays their first game on Friday April 17th. The sun will be shining, and when the sun is shining the ball travels better in my mind. said Jonah S. as he prepared to take the team charter shuttle out to Frasatti. Can t wait for the season to start, it should be a great start to the baseball campaign. said Alex J as he put on his eye black. Baseball is a ball, and we use that ball to have fun, fun is what games are, and the game is baseball. said Noah R. as he filled his water bottle in anticipation of the season opener at Sunrise Minute Maid Park. Hoping to get some revenge from the basketball season today! said Jackson P. as he gleefully devoured his box of pregame Mike and Ike s. The results of this game were not available when this edition went to print, and will be in next week s News. 5th Grade The 5th grade boys baseball team traveled across the mighty St. Croix river on Thursday afternoon for their season opening match against border rival St. Pat s of Hudson. This was a treat, traveling by shuttle, over to famous Burton Field. said Rory Smith. The Tigers were looking forward to starting their Tigers baseball careers in style. I was a little nervous, but after the first inning we knocked those butterflies away from our face, and did the best that we could. said Nolan Conners. The Tigers battled the Shamrocks through six great innings of baseball. Unfortunately the Tigers were on the wrong end of the score in this first game. All it took was one inning from the Shamrocks, and they were able to pull out a gutty 4-3 victory over our 5th grade squad on a beautiful night for baseball. We will be ok, just need to get back to the field and keep working hard on our game. said Andrew Koch. The Tigers will be back in action on Tuesday as they take on St. Paul Highland Catholic at Lumen Christi field. Don t want to miss that one! Go Tigers!!
