The Generals enter play today in 2nd place (-1.0) in the SL North standings behind the 7-3 Huntsville Stars. After the first 2 series of the season, Jackson has outscored Chattanooga and Mississippi RHP Jordan Pries makes his 2nd start of the season for Jackson and will be opposed by RHP C.J. Edwards for Tennessee. Edwards is the No. 3 prospect for the Cubs, according to Baseball America. GENERALS RECAP: The Generals walked off with a 5-4 victory over the Mississippi Braves last night at the ballpark in Jackson. Gabriel Noriega (0-2, R, RBI) hit a sacrifice fly to center that scored Nate Melendres who entered the game as a pinch runner for Ramon Morla (2-3, BB) on a deep fly ball to center field. Morla led off the ninth with a double before exiting the game. 19-year-old right-hander Victor Sanchez went five innings and allowed six hits and four earned runs before finishing with his second no decision of the season. The Generals answered a 4-0 deficit as Jabari Blash (1-3, 2 RBI, BB) hit his second home run of the season to score Ketel Marte (1-4, 1 R, SB). Jackson s bullpen added solid relief pitching in Sunday s win. Jordan Shipers went two innings and allowed a hit and a walk against eight hitters. Stephen Kolscheen (1-0) earned his first victory of 2014 after a dominant eighth and ninth inning appearance. Kolscheen allowed one hit and recorded two strikeouts against Mississippi s final seven hitters. BLASH S ON-BASE STREAK REACHES 26: Dating back to 8/19/13, OF Jabari Blash has reached base safely in 25 straight games, batting.358, with 7 HR, 6 2B, and 25 RBI. He has a.536 on-base percentage. THE JACKSON BASEBALL FRANCHISE: This is the 17th year of Double-A, Southern League baseball at The Ballpark in Jackson (previously Pringles Park) in Jackson, TN. The franchise moved to Jackson in 1998 from Memphis and was the Memphis Chicks of the Southern League. The franchise was known as the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx from The name was changed after the final home game in The club was affiliated with the Chicago Cubs from and has been affiliated with the Seattle Mariners from 2007-present (8th year). The only franchise Championship came in GENERALS VS. TENNESSEE - THE I-40 SERIES: The Generals and Smokies will meet 15 times in 2014, with this being the only series at Smokies Park.
