1 Des Moines Oaks TWIB NOTES: USSSA points = 35 The Oaks went 9-4 during April. VOLUME 1, ISSUE April Tournament Recap A P R I L, Oaks hit for a cycle against the Indianola Venom. Zach & KC for a single, Ben for a Double, Mason for a Triple, Brandin for a HR. The Des Moines Oaks were scheduled to participate in four tournaments during the month of April. Due to adverse weather, the Battle of the Border tournament was cancelled. Wrapping up the month, the Oaks participated in the Gladiator Invite on April 6th and 7th. The boys played in a round robin, non tournament style format going 3-1. Sam s new nickname is The Redbird Killer The Oaks started the month off by hosting their own tournament on April 5th and 6th. The boys finished nd. The Oaks then played in the Kickoff Classic on April 17th and 18th finishing 3rd. Caption describing picture or graphic. For the month the Oaks won 9 games and lost 4. They scored 6 runs per game and gave up 3.38 earned runs. They batted.313 as a team. The Oaks Pre- Season Tournament was a great opportunity to get some games in early in the season Coach for the Venom Oaks Finish nd Hosting the Oaks Pre-Season Tournament The Des Moines Oaks Pre-Season Tournament was held in Norwalk on April 5 & 6. There were two 1U AA teams, one 1U AAA team and on 11U Major team. In preparation for the upcoming season, the Oaks played up an age division so as to hone their skills. Overall, the Oaks went - for the tournament. They finished pool play -1 receiving the # seed and a birth in the Championship game. They went on to loose their final game to the Iowa Astros. A recap of the games and scores are: 1st game: BEAT Norwalk Heat 6-1 nd game: BEAT Indianola Venom 4-3 3rd game: Lost Iowa Astros 0-4th game: Lost Iowa Astros 1-11 For the tournament the Oaks went - scoring 11 runs and gave up 17. The team batted.4 and gave up 3.5 earned runs per game. As a reminder, the team goal is to bat.375 and give up no more than 3.5 runs per game. Kick Off Classic NIT: 3rd Place 3rd Place Finish The Oaks played in a weather shortened tournament that had 14 teams competing. Overall, the Oaks went 4-1 for the tournament. The Oaks finished pool play -0 as the number 3 seed of the tournament. They fell to the WDM Warthogs in the semifinals before going on to take the consolation match. A recap of the games and scores are: team batted.304 and gave up 4 earned runs per game. The Oaks played in a 5 team round robin style invitational in Omaha, Nebraska April 6 & 7. There were 3 Major classification teams: Des Moines Oaks, Omaha Pacesetters, Omaha Gladiators and 1st game: BEAT Souixland Stars-AAA 10-3 nd game: BEAT Omaha Gladiators-Major 5-4 3rd game: Lost Omaha Pacesetters-Major -5 4th game: BEAT Quad City Redbirds-AAA 7-5 For the Invitational, the Oaks went 3-1 scoring 4 runs (6 runs per game) and gave up 17. The Connor showing great pitching mechanics! Player Profile: Josh Hagedorn Josh framing the ball! Josh Hagedorn stands 5 and weighs 91 pounds. He bats right and throws right. Josh is from Des Moines and goes to school in Carlisle, Iowa. His primary positions are pitcher and catcher. In 007, Josh threw over 78 innings and recorded 74 strikeouts while giving up 58 walks. His record was 17-4 with saves and an ERA of Additionally, Josh hit.366 knocking in 66 RBIs and scoring 94 runs over 83 games. For 008, Josh is hitting.337 and is 6-0 on the mound. 6 Des Moines Oaks th Ave Cumming, Iowa Phone: Fax: The Des Moines Oaks is an age 11 and under tournament baseball team (USSSA/AAU). In 005, the team (known as the SDSM Thunder) finished the season with an overall record of 9-5. In a total of seven tournament, the Oaks placed first six times, once in fifth, leading the team to move on to win the State Championship. In 006, the team finished the season with an overall record of The boys played in 9 tournament and were crowned champions twice and runner up three times. They capped their season off with a trip to the USSSA World Series where they placed 3rd out of 48 teams. In 007, the Oaks (AAA) played in 15 tournaments. They compiled an impressive record of on the season (.845 winning percentage). In tournament play, they finished 1st seven times, nd once, 3rd six times and 4th once. Specifically, the Oaks won the USSSA Iowa State Championship as well as the Slug Fest where they played up a division for additional competition. In addition to being the USSSA State Champions, the Oaks were ranked 3rd in the Nation according to the USSSA power ratings for boys 10 year old AAA. Our young men love to play baseball and desire to challenge themselves to a high level of competition.
