Greener and Trevecca Nazarene s Chris Hale were named Co-Players of the Week. It is Greener s third consecutive Player of the Week honor and fourth this season from the TranSouth. Cumberland has now claimed 10 of the 14 league POW accolades this season. Greener continued his assault on opponent pitching, collecting eight hits in 13 at-bats (.615) with three home runs, seven RBIs and six runs scored. The Jupiter, Fla., native went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs in a victory over Lambuth Univ. and recorded fi ve hits with a double, one home run, three RBIs and four runs scored in three games versus Bethel. His three-run homer in the fourth inning of Friday s doubleheader opener against Bethel proved to be a game-winner. The senior third baseman has hit safely in 34 of CU s 35 games this season and is currently on a 23-game hitting streak. He currently leads the nation in home runs (15), total bases (122) and hits (61), ranks second in RBIs (54) and slugging percentage (.992) and is eighth in batting average (.492). Wilkerson tossed a one-hit shutout in Friday s second game versus Bethel, allowing just three baserunners with four strikeouts in the fi ve-inning victory. The righthander walked one and hit a batter while throwing only 68 pitches. The Waco, Texas, native is now 5-1 this season with a 1.93 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 37.1 innings of work. The righthander has victories this season over Oklahoma City Univ., Embry-Riddle, Union Univ. and Bethel. Cumberland ranked No. 4 nationally Cumberland jumped 15 spots and was ranked fourth nationally in the fi rst regular season 2010 NAIA Baseball Coaches Top 25 Poll released March 30 by the national offi ce. The ranking is the highest for the Bulldogs since earning the second spot in the preseason poll in The Bulldogs already have eight victories this season over ranked opponents three versus No. 3 Oklahoma City Univ., two against seventhranked Embry-Riddle and No. 13 Bethel Univ., and one versus eighth-ranked Campbellsville Univ. CU will host No. 8 Lee Univ. Tuesday and 25th-ranked Milligan College on April 27. CU won 2-of-3 over 19th-ranked Union Univ. two weekends ago. Cumberland was ranked 19th in the NAIA Baseball Coaches Top 25 Preseason Poll released in November. The Green Machine Senior Matt Greener has put on a hitting display like few ever seen through the fi rst 35 games of the season, batting.496 with 14 doubles, 15 home runs, 61 hits, 54 RBIs and 39 runs scored while slugging.992. He currently leads the nation in home runs, total bases (122) and hits, ranks second in RBIs and slugging percentage and is eighth in batting average. The Jupiter, Fla., native has hit safely in 34 of the team s 35 games and has 19 multi-hit outings. He has an even higher average during his current 23-game hitting streak, batting.523 (45-for-86) with 23 extra-base hits, 39 RBIs and 27 runs scored. Greener is hitting.526 (10-for-19) in TranSouth action as well with six extra-base hits, fi ve RBIs and eight runs scored in six contests. The Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, native had slumped a little recently, collecting just four hits in 16 at-bats (.250) over seven games from March But Appleton came up with big hits in CU s series at Union Univ. two weekends ago, including a double in each contest. He had four total hits in the three games, drove in three runs and scored twice. He added two more hits with a two-run homer and two runs scored in last week s victory over Lambuth Univ. and collected fi ve more hits with a double, one home run, two RBIs and three runs scored in the weekend series against Bethel Univ. Appleton has raised his batting average 62 points over the last seven games and is now hitting.356 with six doubles, eight home runs, 24 RBIs and 23 runs scored in 26 starts this season. Schaefer stays perfect Senior Shawn Schaefer posted his seventh victory in seven outings this season in a 3-2 victory over No. 13 Bethel Univ. in Friday s opener. The lefthander was not as sharp as in previous outings, but nonetheless battled enough to keep his record perfect this season. Schaefer allowed two runs on seven hits while striking out seven. The Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, native has a 1.09 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 49.2 innings of work. He has allowed just nine total runs, six earned, in the seven outings and has victories over North Alabama, Missouri Baptist, Oklahoma City Univ., Embry-Riddle, Union Univ. and Bethel. Miller seeing good pitches With Troy Frazier struggling a bit in the No. 3 hole and Matt Greener as hot as ever, head coach Woody Hunt moved Greener into the No. 3 spot, in front of senior Kris Miller, who has taken advantage of the situation. The New Caney, Texas, native s batting average had fallen a bit, but he was still producing, getting on base in front of Greener. Now with the situation reversed, Miller picked up fi ve hits with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored in the fi nal two games against No. 13 Bethel Univ. He doubled twice, drove in a run and scored three times in the second game of Friday s doubleheader against the Wildcats and came back with two more hits and another RBI in Saturday s contest. For the season Miller is now batting.376 with 14 doubles (tied for team lead), 10 home runs, 40 RBIs and 37 runs scored. He is second on the club in RBIs and third in home runs and runs scored.

Post allowed just two hits and struck out four and overall had his best outing since missing 17 days with a shoulder injury. The Mt. Juliet, Tenn., native tossed a three-hit shutout against the Univ. of St. Francis in his fi rst start of the year but was not as sharp in the outing versus Viterbo and then left after an inning on March 6 at Oklahoma City Univ. He tossed one inning of relief versus Campbellsville Univ. on March 23 and then had a start at Union Univ. in the fi rst TranSouth series, but allowed six runs on nine hits in 3.2 innings. For the season Post is now 2-2 with a 3.57 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 22.2 innings of work. Kikla does a little of everything Senior Sam Kikla s versatility as a player has never been questioned after he led the Bulldogs in nine offensive categories last season while starting at four different positions on the fi eld. The Malabar, Fla., native has continued his excellent work in many different areas, showing more patience at the plate and setting the table for the guys in the middle of the order Troy Frazier, Kris Miller and Matt Greener who have a combined 133 RBIs this season. He has been especially hot over the last six games, going 11-for-22 (.500) with two doubles, two homers, eight RBIs and nine runs scored. Kikla leads the Bulldogs with 49 runs scored this season and also has seven doubles, nine home runs, 37 RBIs and a teambest 19 walks while batting.378. Tidbits Senior Max Kautz has been stuck in neutral over the last 15 games, batting just.205 (9-for-44) with nine runs scored and nine RBIs. The Palo Alto, Calif., native has shown glimpses of coming out of his slump, putting together four hits, fi ve RBIs and fi ve runs scored during one three-game stretch from March 17-23, but then he had just two hits over the next four contests. More disturbing has been his penchant for strikeouts, as he leads the club with 33. Kautz registered just 35 strikeouts all of last season Senior Troy Frazier s average has fallen off more than 50 points over the last nine games, and he too has been susceptible to the strikeout. After striking out just 11 times in the fi rst 24 games of the year, Frazier has been punched out 10 times in the last nine contests. He has batted just.216 (8-for-37) during the nine games with seven runs scored and 10 RBIs Catcher David Fanshawe has come alive at the plate over the last seven games after going through a 3-for-23 (.130) slump in the previous six contests. The Miami, Fla., native has nine hits in his last 23 at-bats (.391) with one double, one home run and two RBIs. The homer came in Friday s second game against Bethel Univ., his fi rst round-tripper since opening day at North Alabama. Fanshawe is now batting.327 with seven doubles, two home runs and 17 RBIs. Team Nuggets Cumberland has scored in the fi rst inning in 20 of the team s 35 contests this season, netting 45 runs. The Bulldogs have scored 144 total runs in the fi rst three innings this season Cumberland is 21-0 this year when leading after six innings, a tribute to the starters and their ability to fi nish games and also to a good relief staff that has posted a 5-1 record with fi ve saves and a 2.41 ERA Cumberland has scored in double fi gures PROBABLE STARTING PITCHERS Tuesday Wednesday PROBABLE POSITION STARTERS Catcher First Base Second Base Third Base Shortstop Leftfield Centerfield Rightfield Designated Hitter 3 Keith Kirby (R) 0-0, 3.00 ERA, 20 K Matt McFarland (L) 1-0, 3.00 ERA, 4 K David Fanshawe.327, 2 HR, 17 RBI Greg Appleton.356, 8 HR, 24 RBI T.J. He won the TSAC Pitcher of the Week accolade on March 1 as well after shutting out Missouri Baptist. Bulldogs sweep TranSouth honors Cumberland seniors Troy Frazier and Shawn Schaefer were named the TranSouth Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week on March 1 after their performances against Missouri Baptist and Viterbo University. 9 Woody Hunt Head Coach Belmont Univ./ th Season 1, (.706) overall Cumberland University owes a great debt of gratitude to legendary and Hall of Fame head coach Woody Hunt for his great service not only to the baseball program but also to the athletic department and the University as well as the community of Lebanon. Hunt begins his 28th season as head coach of the Bulldogs in 2009 and his 31st with the Cumberland program. He has amassed an impressive resume along the way and continues to add to his credentials with each passing year. But even more importantly Hunt continues to play a major role within the overall landscape of the University as well as in the Lebanon and Wilson County communities where so many of his former players have settled into lives after baseball. Hunt is one of only six coaches in history to register 1,000 career victories in the NAIA and heads into the 09 season with a 1, overall record. The Bulldogs have appeared in 10 NAIA World Series, including four in the last fi ve seasons, but his most crowning program achievement came when CU claimed the 2004 national championship in Lewiston, Idaho. The Bulldogs have fi nished as the national runner-up on two other occasions, in 1995 and Cumberland has won 16 conference championships during Hunt s tenure, including 10 in the Tennessee HUNT S YEAR-BY-YEAR Collegiate Athletic Conference (TCAC), fi ve in the Mid- South Conference (MSC) and one in the TranSouth Conference (TSAC). CU has four district championships, 11 NAIA regional titles and has played in fi ve super regionals as well. The program has posted 20 seasons with 40 or more victories, including 16 of the last 17 years, while registering 50 or more wins seven times, all in the last dozen seasons. The 2004 squad set the school-record for victories with 59. The Bulldogs have produced 51 NAIA All-Americans, including Steve Green, the only three-time All-American in program history. Seventy-two of Hunt s former players have signed professional contracts. The Bulldogs have posted a record over the last six seasons with fi ve NAIA World Series appearances, one runner-up fi nish and one national title. Hunt has also achieved individual success in the awards category, claiming 16 Coach of the Year honors, including the 2006 Rawlings National Coach of the Year award. He is a seven-time Southeast Region Coach of the Year and has also been a fi nalist for the National Coach of the Year Award four times. Perhaps his greatest achievement lies in the facilities in which his team plays, practices and dresses. Cumberland has one of the fi nest baseball facilities in the nation, second to none in the NAIA, with Ernest L. Stockton Field and its 500 chairback seats and stateof-the-art press box, the Benton Jennings Indoor Hitting Complex and the Jeanette C. Rudy Clubhouse.
