RH Matt Andriese today has a chance to become the first pitcher in Rays history to earn 2 wins on Mother s Day last year at Angel Stadium, he earned a 3-1 win with his mother Lynn watching him for the first time in the big leagues he totaled 7 IP, 4 H, 1 R/ER, allowing only a sac fly to Albert Pujols in the 1st inning. RAY MATTER Today the Rays seek their first rubber match win since the opening series vs. NYY (April 5), having lost their three rubber matches since then (vs. HOU, at BAL, at TOR) the Rays took two leads against LH Chris Sale yesterday, 1-0 and 3-2, thanks to home runs by 1B Logan Morrison and CF Kevin Kiermaier, but LH Blake Snell was unable to hold either lead and the Rays lost 6-3 it was their major-league-leading 15th come-from-behind loss the Rays have held a lead in 25 of their last 27 games but are only in those 27 games it snapped a 3-game road winning streak Rays were held to only 3 hits, the only other one a pinch-hit single by Corey Dickerson Rays returned to 3 games under.500, equaling their season most. The Rays are against AL East opponents, and 8-6 against teams outside the division. The Rays are 4-9 when facing left-handed starters, and vs. RHP. LEFTY LOOSEY Yesterday 1B Logan Morrison (solo in 2nd) and CF Kevin Kiermaier (2-run in 5th) became the first and second left-handed hitters to homer off LH Chris Sale this season it was only the third time Sale yielded 2 HR to left-handed hitters in his career prev. July 8, 2016 vs. ATL (Freddie Freeman, Nick Markakis) and June 10, 2016 vs. KC (Eric Hosmer twice) prior to yesterday, Sale had yielded only 8 HR to lefties in his career to five different players: Hosmer (3), DET Brennan Boesch (2), Freeman, Markakis and CLE Travis Hafner. Morrison s blast was his first HR off a LHP since May 25, 2016 vs. MIA (Justin Nicolino) hit 20 HR vs. RHP in between since the start of 2015, it was only the 2nd of his 41 HR to come off a LHP. Morrison became the quickest Ray to reach 10 HR (39th team game) since 2009, when Carlos Peña did it in Game 24 and Evan Longoria hit his 10th in Game 30.
