RAY MATTER The Rays have lost consecutive games on the heels of a 5-game winning streak yesterday at SEA, the Rays lost in walk-off fashion, 4-3, in 13 innings, in a game that ended at 2:26 a.m. ET it was the Rays third walk-off loss of the season (last May 2 at DET) and the first time they lost on a walk-off home run since Aug 26, 2017 at STL (Tommy Pham) a game also started by Mike Leake since 2015, the Rays have yielded a major-league-most 14 walk-off home runs (Indians, 13), and during that same span they have hit two walk-off homers, fewest in the majors. With last night s loss, the Rays dropped to they have only been over.500 for four days this season (1-0, 27-26, 28-26, 28-27). The Rays are 6-3 in their last 9 games, 12-6 (.667) in their last 18 games (since May 14, 3rd-best in the majors) and (.615) in their last 39 games (since April 18, tied for 5th-best in the majors). The Rays have gone 8-4 against AL West opponents this season. EXTRA! EXTRA! Last night s 4:16 game was the Rays longest by time since Sep 15, 2017 vs. BOS (6:05) and longest on the road since May 28, 2017 at MIN (6:26) the 13 innings tied for the Rays longest game by innings this season, with both of those games coming on the current road trip (Mon at OAK) the Rays dropped to 2-3 in extra-inning games. Rays batters struck out 16 times last night, their most since Sep 15, 2017 at BOS (club-record 24) the Rays used seven pitchers, matching a season high (also May 12 (G2) at BAL and April 5 at BOS). The Rays have yielded 11 runs over their last 2 games, both losses, compared to 12 runs in their previous 7 games combined (6-1) the 11 hits allowed last night were their most since May 15 at KC (11) and snapped a streak of 15 consecutive games without allowing double-digit hits, the 3rd-longest such streak in franchise history. Last night was the first time the Rays lost a game when hitting multiple homers since Sep 24, 2017 at BAL they were 14-0 in those games to start the season, the last unbeaten team when doing so. THROUGH THE WRINGER This series began a stretch of 25 of 28 games from June 1 July 1 against teams currently positioned to make the postseason, the only exception a 3-game series from June vs. TOR these 25 games include the Mariners (7), Yankees (7), Astros (7) and Nationals (4) the Rays are (.345) against teams that are currently.500 or better and 18-9 (.667) against teams that are currently below.500. The end of this series concludes a stretch of games on 13 straight days the Rays are in the middle of a stretch of 40 games in 41 days (May 11 June 20), and they have gone 13-9 thus far. This is the last of four straight 3-city road trips the first time in club history the Rays have made four consecutive three-city trips this is the Rays second consecutive West Coast trip, the first time they have visited the West Coast on back-to-back trips since July August 2012, when they went 9-4 in those West Coast games. RAYS vs. MARINERS The Rays are (.440) all-time against the Mariners (36-44 at home, on the road) since May 9, 2016, they are 0-7 at Safeco Field, the longest losing streak in club history here in those 7 games, they have been outscored (17-11 in 2016, 28-7 in 2017, 4-3 in 2018) this series began a stretch of 7 games in 10 days between the two clubs, as the Rays host the Mariners in a 4-game series at Tropicana Field from June 7-10 the Rays are 1-7 in their last 8 games against the Mariners they lost the season series, 5-1, last year, and have lost the last four season series, going 9-18 (.333) since the start of 2014 (3-3 in 2013). MINOR MATTERS Seven Rays ranked on Baseball America s updated list of Top 100 prospects, tied with the Braves for 2nd-most in the majors behind the Padres (8) Rays in the Top 100 were SS Willy Adames (15), RH Brent Honeywell (20), LH/1B Brendan McKay (27), OF Jesús Sánchez (32), 1B Jake Bauers (42), SS Wander Franco (86) and LH Anthony Banda (87) and all of these players either improved upon their May ranking or stayed the same Sánchez made the biggest jump, moving up 15 spots from the May update, followed by McKay, who moved up eight spots. In January, Baseball America listed the Rays at No. 5 in its Organizational Talent rankings of minor league prospects, their highest position since 2013 (No. 4).
