Tonight is the first of four select home games (also June 9 vs. SEA, June 23 vs. NYY, Sep 8 vs. BAL) that the Rays will wear a Majestic Athletic white alternate throwback Devil Rays jersey using the original gradient Devil Rays design, worn from , and the 20th Anniversary patch on the left sleeve for those four games plus select home and road games, the Rays will wear a newly designed navy blue New Era retro cap that blends the original and current designs, featuring a large fish emblem on a gradient background and a modified 20th Anniversary patch on the right side. MEDICAL MATTERS Yesterday Nathan Eovaldi underwent arthroscopic surgery to remove loose bodies in his right elbow the surgery was performed by Dr. Koco Eaton in St. Petersburg he is expected to resume pitching activities in 8-10 weeks. RAY MATTER Yesterday s loss snapped the Rays winning streak at 5 games, dating back to last Sep 28 it matched their longest winning streak under Manager Kevin Cash (also April 22-26, 2015) the Rays played a 1-0 game for the first time since July 8, 2017 vs. BOS, and lost a 1-0 game for the first time since Sep 28, 2016 at CWS it was their first shut out since Sep 9, 2017 at BOS and first at home since Aug 12, 2017 vs. CLE. While the Rays have never been shut out on Opening Day, they have been shut out in the second game of the season in consecutive years they lost, 5-0, vs. NYY in the second game last season. ABOUT THE OFFENSE The Rays offense has been shut out in 16 of their 17 trips to the plate this season all 6 runs scored so far came in the 8th inning on Thurs vs. BOS (see chart below) this is the second time in franchise history the Rays have been held to 4 hits or fewer in each of their first 2 games of the season (also 2011, 3 straight to start the season).
