3 Why do passengers take the bicycle on board? To cross the crowded and jammed area (city centre) To transport the bicycle from the city center to countryside To transport broken bicycles To use the public transport in the case of bad weather To transport the bicycle when the bicycler is in the bad condition (tired, after alcohol etc.) 3

17 Practice in the cities of Central Europe In most cities bicycle transportation is allowed network-wide Tariff Lots of cities classify the bicycle as small luggage, pays ½ of regular fare Most of other cities allow to transport the bicycle free of charge Regulations Some cities set the time, when the bicycle transport is not allowed (peak hours, working days) Some cities don t allow bicycle transportation in some means of transport Some cities allow to transport the bicycle only on some line or on some part of the route/line Some cities charge more for bicycle transport in some time periods 17

22 Bicycle transport in Brno Share on the modal split: 1 2 % Bicycle transport in PT vehicles allowed 24/7, all lines, all means of transport - ½ of regular fare - holders of pre-paid ticket: free Outside the city bikes are allowed only in trains and on cyclobuses 2002: special lines C1 + C2 operated by cyclobuses - closed after 1 year, low interest (buses were operated with special tariff conditions) 22
