HELLINGPROOF In this edition of the cycling mail we discuss the racing during the student cup in Amsterdam, we have an interview with one of our members and we list the coming activities. We also have a new picture for the caption competition and some new and exciting ideas will be introduced. Studentcup Amsterdam A few weeks ago SKITS organized their round of the studentcup in Amsterdam. The men without license were the first category to race on the course of ARC Ullysses which has a small climb in the form of a bridge. All men were ready to go for the win, Gijs and Robin even practiced their leaout during the previous Wednesday training. But things did not go as planned as Alger saw something interesting on the ground and reached out for it, he did however not stay upright and took Gijs and a big part of the peloton with him. But it was not all sadness for the men without license. Thijs rode his first race since a long time and immediately rode away with two other riders. They managed to make it to the finish and Thijs ended up in third place. In the peloton Jetze kept the pace high for Robin his sprint and Filip flew through the last corner to the lead-out, unfortunately someone from WTOS was in his wheel and won the peloton sprint, Robin was second in the peloton sprint and thus 5th of the race. 2 laps they were constantly attacking. Because Harmen was alone in the break he had to cover all the moves. This was very exhausting which meant that he could only sprint to 7th place. Stijn escaped the peloton in the last few laps and ended up in 10th, Bart was 18th and Tjalle 22nd after he stopped a few laps earlier to see the result of that days giro stage. When the race finished we could all enjoy a well deserved meal prepared by SKITS. This gave us the energy to ride back to the train station. Jetze trying to go solo. Next up were the women. Anouk and Ehlana rode their first race ever. Anouk unfortunately had mechanical issues early in the race and had to abandon. Ehlana might have picked the wrong race to be her first because this might have been the fastest women studentcup race ever, but she managed to finish the race. Susan was the first hellingprof in 7th place and Els also finished in the top 20 of the race in 17th place. Interview with... Name: Max Bouman Age: 19 Where do you originate from? The Hague What is your current study and/or work? I almost finished my first year studying Soil, Water and Atmosphere. What kind of bicycles do you use? Since last summer I ride a Bianchi (Intenso), fitted with Shimano Ultegra. The women before the start of their race. When did you start cycling? I started cycling when I was a little child. I used to go on cycling vacations with my family in the summer. But I started training more frequently this year. Last up were the men with licence. Harmen just returned from an injury but immediately made the decisive break away. Most teams however had more than one rider in the break and the last few

3 What are your hobbies besides cycling? Before this year I played soccer, which is still a hobby of mine. Besides cycling and playing soccer I like to hang out with friends and go out. What is your greatest cycling experience? When I was thirteen or fourteen years old, I attempted to climb the Mont Ventoux. It was the first famous col I rode. It was very hard, not only because of the long and steep climb but also because of the high temperature that day. But the view and the amazing feeling when I reached the top of the Mont Ventoux were definitely worth it. MTB clinic On Tuesday 12 June, Kjell van den Boogert and our own trainer Casper will give a mtb clinic. This is a perfect opportunity to improve your bike handling skills, which are also important for road cycling. You can sign up by sending an to wielrenners.wageningen@gmail.com. If you want to participate but you don't have a mtb, you can still participate. Thanks to Peerenboom we have some extra mtb to rent. Just tell us in your sign up mail that you don't have an mtb yet. We will leave at 19:00 from the Bongerd. What are your long term cycling goals? Participating in student cups, and maybe even winning one within a few years. SWN Summer Holliday There are only four weeks left before the summer holiday kicks in. Which means it s time to enjoy your spare time and to cycle a lot. Do you already have plans for your holiday? Because, also this year SWN will be organising a cycle holiday. This year the location is Bourg d Oisans close by the famous and legendary Alpe d Huez. Time trial The 19th of June is one of the highlights of the month. And no Gijs, it is not only because of your birthday two days later. But there will be some decorations for your bike for sure (which implies that there will be treats). A time trial will be organised. The course is still unknown, but will be revealed soon. This is your chance to earn some points for the classification and maybe even take the jersey! We ll gather at 18 o clock at the Bongerd.

4 Caption competition Last week we announced our first winner of the caption competition. This week there was an increase in submissions, which made it harder for us to announce a winner. This time the winner is Bart. See his caption below the picture. Studentcup Utrecht The 30th of June is already the last studentencup before the holidays. Maybe this is the day to win a studentcup for the Hellingprofs. Robin is planning to smuggle some point to maintain his second place in the overall classification. Don t hesitate and join the race. You can t subscribe yet, but when possible we will announce it. ''Lunch for participants studentcup Enschede magically disappears!'' This week's picture is the following: BBQ On the 28th of June a BBQ will be organised by the activity committee. We will enjoy the sun, drink some beers and we could tell each other our summer plans. It is one of your last chances to see your fellow Hellingprofs for a long time. And leave your jacket at home, because you can only lose it (BAS)! Instructions for signing up will follow later. 5 Tour of Ijsselmeer The tour of ijselmeer or tour of the Zuiderzee is a cycling route of km depending on route choice. We thought it would be a nice idea to ride this route as a group. Everybody is allowed to join, but you have to take into account that this will cost a whole day, so if you think you are not able to keep up for the whole ride it is better to stay at home. Or you can drive a car to supply us with food and inner tubes etc. If you are interested in riding the route or driving the service car please contact Tjalle. (the date of the event is up for discussion). Carbon roest niet Linda, Niels and Jora have recently started a former members association called: ''Carbon roest niet'' (we believe you can also join them if you have an aluminium bike). Their first activity is on the 7th of July, they plan to find the best apple cake of the Netherlands in Ermelo. Starting at 12:30, a 110 kilometre ride will be done ending with a nice meal. In the Women category Els is leading with a 4 points gap over Sonja and Paula. Els is not only leading the sprint classification but also the time trial classification, but Sigrid showed with her victory in the last time trial that she is aiming to take over the lead.
