HELLINGPROOF Duo time trial We organized a duo time trial to have a good integration between our members; especially in a duo time trial you have to work together very well to get to victory! But since it was an open time trial, we also had a special guest team who skipped a few days from their training camp in Spain to join our famous time trial: Van der Valk ProCycling Team! All teams had to ride one lap of the NSK lap in the Binnenveld. There was a very strong wind which made it a tough battle. Everyone finished in pain, and that s a good thing! All the wind and pain did not scare the cyclists, we even recruited a new member: Jesper! Van der Valk ProCycling Team became 3 rd, but that is only because they did not push hard since it was actually their rest day after all hard climbing work in Spain. Paula and Jeroen became second, which is really good since they lost valuable seconds during their start. Imagine how fast they were on the rest of the lap! The honor of best team went to Rutger and Martijn, but Rutger created the teams so whether this was a fair couple remains questionable Activities Club Monday training 18:00 at the Bongerd. 1 Wednesday members training 18:00 at the Bongerd. 2 Friday training 10:00 at the Bongerd 1. 2 Student cups Enschede On 28 April the studentcup in Enschede was organized in Oldenzaal by D.W.V. Klein Verzet. The first to start were the men without racing licence start but only a minute after that the women also had to start their race. This meant that there were two pelotons on the course at the same time. But the race didn't last long because in the first corner the male peloton crashed and the race was neutralized. About half an hour later the race could be resumed. In the men's race Paul made his racing debut, unfortunately he dropped his chain pretty early and was thus dropped by the peloton, but he kept on riding until the race was finished. No dangerous breakaway could be established until Martijn decided to go on the attack, only one rider managed to follow his unmatchable acceleration. They managed to maintain their lead for a long time, but eventually they got brought back when the teams were setting up their sprint trains. Martijn did however get the price for most combative rider. Our sprint train derailed in the fight for positions and Gijs was the best hellingprof in 13th place. Meanwhile in the women's peloton group four riders escaped (partly because of drafting in the men's peloton) and they managed to stay away. Unfortunately Els and Sigrid missed the decisive break, but at least they followed the rules and should be praised for sportsmanship. In the final sprint Els finished in 10th place and Sigrid passed another rider just before the line and finished 14th. that they were going to control the race. From the start Tjalle could escaped with 2 other riders since he had a good warm up by biking 110 km to Oldenzaal. But one of his breakaway companions of Klein Verzet did not want to cooperate so they waited until the peloton caught them back. But nobody in the peloton wanted to bring the break back so the pace was slow. When they were eventually caught by the peloton two other riders escaped, and again no team wanted to chase. So Harmen and Tjalle did some pulls on front of the peloton to bring the break back and make sure Bart was in a position to sprint for the win. Bart ended up sprinting to the 3rd place! Which is his first podium in the men with license category after winning the men without license overall classification last year. Harmen was 4th and Tjalle 10th. Maastricht It was a beautiful day when the Hellingprofs went to Maastricht for the Ronde van Wolder ; already the fourth student cup of this year. It was a great dedication to leave bed so early after the 5 th of May. But we had to go: we could not let down our fans (Filip s parents came all the way over to cheer for us). With the Louwerberg (9% climb) every round, it was for some more a survival instead of racing. Robin managed to sprint to an 8 th place (sadly no flowers for Sonja), securing himself of a second place in the overall standings! And with Gijs and Susan both placed 3 rd in the overall standings, we are doing a great job again this year. The last to start were the men with race license. There were only 13 riders on the start line from which 6 were riding for Klein Verzet, so it was clear

3 An unusual sight: hellingprofs at the back of the peloton. In the women s race, Susan became 5 th after a failed sprint : the peloton did not know that they were already riding their final lap, so some girls doubted too long before they started to sprint. Visually, Sigrid became second after she secretly rode an extra lap. In the last race of the day, Bart had to let go of the peloton because he had a flat tire, which actually was not flat. He decided to quit the race to show off his brand new awesome, colorful, imported from Germany, limit edition and foldable helmet. Overall, the day was a good preparation for the GNSK, which also contains a steep climb in the race! (and we re still looking for volunteers, hint hint). Is this the most stylish helmet of Hellingproof history? Time Trial Thursday Coming Thursday 23 May we organize the next time trial for our beautiful time trial jersey. Bas, the current leader in the standings for the men won't be there to defend his title, so the jersey is up for grabs. We will start the time trial on the Telefoonweg and will finish on the Keijenbergseweg to get used to climbing in a time trial in preparation for the GNSK. We leave at 18:00 from the bongerd and ride to the start of the time trail together.

4 Caption competition Last week we started our caption competition with a photo of Alger, Martijn and Robin during the studentcup Wageningen. We only had a few submissions, which was slightly disappointed. However, we found a deserving winner in our chairman Alger. You can see his winning caption beneath the photo. Interview with... Name: Job Hermans Age: 20 Where do you originate from? I m from Elkenrade, Limburg. A small village between the famous climbs of eyserbosweg and the fromberg. What is your current study and/or work? I study forest- and nature conservation What kind of bicycles do you use? I currently ride a ridley x-cross cyclocross bike. Its kind of a Frankenstein bike with campa derailleurs, a shimano rear cassette and sram at the front. It is my first race bike ever, so it only can get better (hopefully). When did you start cycling? Around last year April. But i really started cycling more frequently in December/February. What are your hobbies besides cycling? I like to play videogames, make long walks outside and bbq'ing with some nice beers. I m also a vinyl collector. What is your greatest cycling experience? It is actually the experience of conquering new challenges and finishing even harder climbs and making longer rides. And of course riding with friends. What are your cycling goals for the coming years? Finishing a studentcup with the bunch. And doing more and longer rides. Also i would like to do a alpine climb someday. Especially in the first one i was really scared for taking corners in the peloton. I had no previous experience with riding with more than 4 people. But i can be really challenging and of course fun.

5 SWN zomervakantie This summer, SWN again organizes a summer holiday in a still yet to be determined location. However, it s already known that this event will take place from Saturday August 4 up to Saturday August 11, so you can already free your agendas for this week. The SWN summer holiday is a great opportunity to socialize and have a fun and sportive holiday with people from other student cycling associations. It would be nice to also have a large delegation of hellingprofs joining this year. Follow this event on Facebook (SWN Zomervakantie 2018) if you want to keep updated. to hear how he combined being a student (like us) with being a professional cyclist. Last March, he became 2 nd on the world championships of track cycling (omnium and points race). Now he is racing for Roompot-Nederlandse Loterij cycling team. But currently he also races for Hellingproof as we gave him our team jersey, so he can join us in a student cup. We started with a short pitch of Jan-Willem and a Q&A session. Afterwards we had a ride with him, where everyone had the possibility to cycle next to him for more questions, gossips or tips and tricks. With about 30 hellingprofs joining the evening, it was another successful edition of the April Cycling Month pro day! GNSK volunteers This year the GNSK (Groots Nederlands Studenten Kampioenschap) will be held in Wageningen. Hellingproof is responsible for organizing the cycling event. To make everything possible we need a lot of volunteers. So sign up to volunteer at the GNSK, because as a volunteer you will receive: access to the parties, a volunteer T-shirt, a compensation in the form of GNSK coins, Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner (dependent on your shift), access to the volunteers drink, access to the volunteers room and access to all sport events. If you sign up to volunteer, add in the remarks that you want to volunteer for the cycling event. You can find the signup sheet here. Jan-Willem van Schip wanted to take a picture with the hellingprofs. Riding with a pro cyclist! To continue the tradition of inviting a professional cyclist to the April Cycling Month, we managed to contact Jan-Willem van Schip. He is also a student of Wageningen University, so it was very interesting

6 Sprint and Time Trial Below you can find the standings in the time trial and sprint classification. In the time trial classifiction Bas is leading with Harmen and Erik completing the top 3, but there has only been one time trial so far. They will probably get some more opposition in the Defensieweg time trial coming Thursday. # Name Points 1 Els Vera 4 In the sprint classification the reigning champion Bart is taking the lead with a 3.1 point difference over Luuk with 11.1 points and Tjalle in 3rd place with 7 points. However there is no reason to be sad, because Hellingproof will still be closely collaborating with Peerenboom. This means that Hellingproof members can still get discount on materials in their store and we will still be organizing bike maintenance evenings at Peerenboom coming year. Also, Peerenboom will remain our distributor for cycling clothing.
