1 TADTAS Inc. Annual Report for the Year Ended 30 June 2016 TADTAS Inc P.O. Box 519 Sandy Bay 7006 Telephone TADTAS IS FUNDED BY THE TASMANIAN HEALTH SERVICE

2 PRESIDENT S REPORT 2015/16 at a glance During 2015/16 we undertook 77 projects, the second highest number per annum since the funded service commenced in 2005/06. Comparative data can be seen in the graph on page 4. As can be seen from the list below, there was a wide range of requests, keeping the work interesting while challenging the many skills of our volunteers. As always the list is strongly supported by requests for Freedom Wheels bikes. Our storage shed at the rear of Tascare s building in Derwent Park continues to be a great facility for our work, in particular the Freedom Wheels bike program. Freedom Wheels modified bike program During the year we assessed 18 bikes for children and young people with disabilities, and assessed a further 14 existing Freedom Wheels clients for larger sized bikes. An evaluation of the program through the year, financially supported by the Harcourts Foundation, discovered a lot of bikes up the back of sheds that their riders had outgrown. Those bikes are now back in the program and their riders are now on correctly fitting bikes. 122 bikes have been delivered since the program started in October This is an incredibly rewarding program, and during the year we assessed bikes in both Hobart and Launceston. Donations supporting the program continue to flow as can be seen from the table on page 8. Project partners are Tascare Society for Children, and St Giles Society, who provide us with the services of a physiotherapist. Stalwart of the program is technical volunteer Barry Wilson who devotes hours to the success of the program. The Little Car Yard program A new joint venture with St Giles Society sees young children, aged 1 to 4 years being provided with flexible mobility options that allow them to better interact with children without disabilities, and has the potential to improve life options from an early age. We have been modifying toy electric cars to suit the needs of individual children. We held 2 clinics through the year where we assessed 4 children with disabilities. The program is in its early stages and it is already evident that it has a big future. St Giles has received funding for the program from the RACT and the Commonwealth Bank. Heroes of the program are TADTas volunteers Keith Bolton (electronics) and Rohan Thurstans (seating). Board members Board members bring a wealth of experience to the governance of the organization, with backgrounds in technical skills, occupational therapy, business and finance, disability support, training and management. Their contribution is willingly given and much appreciated. Board members at 30 June 2016 were: Tony Sprent President and Technical Coordinator Paul Duncombe Secretary Treasurer and Executive Officer Rowan Armitage Board Member and technical volunteer Barry Wilson Board Member and technical volunteer Helen Fourez Board Member Fiona Redgrove Board Member 1
